My only complaint Is that it is a little unclear where you should draw the stopper on the syringe to for exactly 1.0ml. Some times the liquid pulls up flush with the syringe plunger but sometimes it is below. Could lead to some variation in readings.
Easier to read then the api kits and higher quality feel to the individual pieces as well
Everything seemed fine after my first week of testing. Then during week 2 my results are all over the place. Completely different readings for both KH and Ca on back to back to back tests. Was extra careful to following instructions to avoid "user error"...still can't get consistent measurements.
The Mg test of my reef aquarium water showed values > 1600 ppm. I tried 3 times. Than I decided to test a fresh batch of saltwater (Osmosis + Red Sea Salt) which should have Mg 1230 ppm. Same result, Mg > 1600 ppm. The Ca test showed 410 ppm which is the expected result. Test kit shows to be valid until 2024 Disappointing
My go to test kit for all my major parameters. Easy to use, easy to read, and relatively quick to test (Mg takes the longest, but still relatively quick). Refill kits are inexpensive. Honestly, my tests expire before I finish them, so maybe I should test more frequently.
Just works plan and simply
Good stuff; other than spending 15 minutes every time to puzzle the box together to close again. I don't get it; is it a space/packaging savings? Could I be provided a box that re-assembles without 4-letter words?
I used this kit daily for a week, and by day 7 the numbers and gradations on the 1ml syringes came almost completely off. I'm so disappointed. I was very excited to track my parameters closely while I'm working from home and I really trust the BRS recommendations. I'm buying 1ml syringes on Amazon to try and salvage things, but I'm quite frustrated that something advertising 75 tests crapped out after 7
easy to use, accurate and easy to read. I will be buying again. I did not think it would be worth the money but I was mistaken. worth every penny.
no accurate, confusing endpoint color, waste money, wont recommend to nobody
Good test kit for your reefing needs.
I had high hopes for this test kit and honestly my tests are no more accruate than using the api test! I am very careful with my tests and i still can do 3test back to back and get 3 totally different results. And the color change “appeal” of these tests are still very difficult to read!
I've had no trouble getting very accurate readings from this kit. It has everything in it for any reefer regardless of experience, and it is very easy to follow the instructions.
VERY accurate. Honestly, testing ALK with this is really easy and doesn't take long. Don't even need a Hanna checker. Marks on syringes wipe off as others said though.
The Red Sea Pro multi test kit helped me get my big three parameters in balance initially. However, the end point color change can be difficult to tell. I never know if I should keep going or stop. The card color doesn’t exactly match the titration, but it gets me close enough to maintain my levels within my acceptable range. I ended up purchasing a different test kit with a digital read out to use as my primary alk test kit.
Basically, doing water tests with Foundation kits take longer than with the API test kit, and the results are the equivalent. Additionally, the Magnesium tests for me have always been 100 to 300 ppm off from the results of my local fish store. So If you like the Foundation testing process, fine. But, I'm not that into cleaning syringes and complicating my tests without much benefit.
I am using this test kit to double check my Hanna checkers. Results are very close to each other. It is a little frustrating getting all the test material back in the box.
Red sea products are great and easy to use. Do wish they'd be more clear on the when to read the result. like when as the color changes or after its fully changes
i like the Salifert kit better
First test kit came in with all the syringes broken as well as the vial holders in the lid broken. BRS sent me out a new kit right away. 2nd one came in undamaged but one of the reagent bottles was leaking and damaged the cards. Between the 2 kits I was able to make a complete undamaged kit.
This is an easy test kit to use, but the magnesium test is unreliable. I rinse the test vials out with RODI water between each test, rinse the vials out with tank water before performing the test and I often get different results when I perform the magnesium test twice. I'm not sure if its how I'm shaking the vials or if I'm not shaking it for the right time, but I feel like the magnesium test results are unreliable. otherwise, it is a solid test kit.
I was sold on Red Sea since I got my Reefer, but this is the second expensive kit I have bought that arrived with something leaking. Everything wet and color stained, including the instructions and color charts. To top that off, the kit included two vials of magnesium C reagant, but no calcium C reagant, so I can't test for calcium at all.
Results are very accurate, easy to use all in one container. Iv used different test kits before but this one is best bang for you buck and very trustworthy test kit !
The MG and CA tests are great. Easy to read and very accurate (comparing to other tests). The alkalinity test kit "expired" after ~6 months. I understand that these things expire, but the expiration is usually a year or so. I gues it technically still works, but the color has turned to a light orange/yellow and its impossible to tell when the titration color change occurs since it goes from the blue color to a very murky blue/yellow then slowly into orange over the next 2ml.
This is a fast and easy way to test
I love the red sea test kits. They are well made and easy to use. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is because the markings on the syringes do wear off. Now that I know that I just avoid touching the markings and it's not an issue
Easy to see color changes, the big three all in one kit.
best test kit I've used yet. easy to read simple to use. awesome test kit
The test kits are a little tricky to get used to. The end colors are the hardest part, since it can change a little and make it so you don't know if your there. I had to test with multiple kits to get a feel of which color was the end. Also for MG it is a long process and I found that you should really shake the test 15 seconds longer than recommended in each section for more accurate results.
Easy to read results. Takes about 15 min to do all three tests.
I can't believe I waited this long to get this test kit. Don't waste your money on buying the cheap API test kits like I did. Those are garbage compared to these hobby grade tests. Spend the extra money on this, totally worth it! Your tank will thank you!
I think its easy to use and the titration handle makes life easy. My only complaint is it's a little hard to discern what the ending color is between the card and what you actually see. Once you do a dozen or so you get used to what it is supposed to look like.
I like the test kit but after only a few tests the markings on 3 of the 4 syringes have worn to the point that they are not useable for testing due to the inability to make accurate measurements. That is the reason for the 2 star review. If measurement markings did not wear off so easily I would give 4 stars. Markings on 2 of 3 smaller syringes totally worn off above .9ml. On larger syringe same issue above 8ml. I have not mistreated the syringes, no scrubbing or anything that should remove the markings. Given the current rate of wear, there is no way these syringes will last and the kit will become useless without them.
Been using this kit after 3 years using API only. More involved than APIn and I've never had a Mag test. Alk is very touchy and a little tough discerning when the color changes to indicate final reading but a much finer reading than the API Alk test so there's that. Overall, I'm pleased.
Easy to use test kit.
This is my second kit and find it very easy to use and reliable. I will continue to use Red Sea.
Solid and reliable
Before buying this kit, I had the separate Red Sea Pro Mg, KH and an API Ca. It is nice to have all 3 test kits now in one box and having the option to just buy reagents afterwards is a plus. Once you find out that Red Sea updated their color changes and have done the test a few times it's easy as pie.
High quality and pretty easy to use. Gives an accurate reading once you know how to test properly. Red Sea should clarify in the directions that it's normal for there to be an air bubble in the syringe to account for the tip..and to level the plunger with the 1ml line still.
its a little cumbersome with too many pieces but they are well made. Takes time ti get it down but eventually gets easier
I loved this test when I first got it. But as I used it and as time went by I noticed things that weren't right. After wondering what the end color really should be, I asked Red Sea. Apparently the end color for the alkalinity test is pink, not red. And it's not even pink, it's clear. The end is as soon as you see any pink at all. Which mean my measurements have been off the whole time. Then there's the expectation. As it gets older the end color for the alkalinity test changes. It's been about a year and the end color is now yellow, it never even gets close to pink or red. The bottle says "Exp. 0517", it's 0716. They also said the Mg and Ca end colors are when you see the first sign of blue, not purple and dark blue. Now I have no idea what to expect from this test and will have to get a different kit to see what my levels are. I don't think I'll be buying anything else from Red Sea any time soon.
This is an awesome test kit, once you get the hang of how to perform the tests, seems complicated but it is not. Pretty accurate and keeps my reef happy! Only thing I don't like is, it's hard to get everything to fit back into the black box once you take it out!
Very easy to use test kit. Also the price is great compared to buying each test kitCRESTWOOD individually.
Been reefing for over 3 years now, and I got this product based on BRS recommendation. I like the titrator, but test results are very inaccurate. I do not dose magnesium at all, so there is zero reason as to why my magnesium levels should be any higher than my salt mix (I use reef crystals) but EVERY time I have tested with this kit my magnesium reads 1600 ppm. That is absolutely impossible, magnesium doesn't form out of nowhere in the home aquarium. I can see ALK and calcium levels differing due to many different factors, but not magnesium. Beyond frustrated. Wish I would have just spent the extra $70 and got Hanna checkers for all of these.
The alkalinity test color chart shows are dark red upon complete titration, but no matter how far you take the test, I've never seen anything but a light pink. So this test parameter (for alk) is worthless to me.
when I first got it I was intimidated with everything included, but after reading and watching youtube videos it couldn't be easier
I've used API and Salifert before and this is my go-to for Mag, Cal, Alk. Very easy to do and accurate. Very well made too. I like that this is a kit, and a box that stores everything and you just buy re-fills when necessary.
I like the quality of the test components but my Alk test is hard to read because it changes from blue to orange to yellow instead of blue to red. I contacted Red sea via email but got no response. CA and MG test work great. I wish red sea would replace my alk test but I can't get a hold of them. Will buy different test when I run out of CA and MG test solution. I have been using the Hanna Alk test and love it!
This is a pretty decent kit with a nice case and water resistant reference cards. Its pretty simple to use as well. My only complaint with it is that i'm not exactly sure when to take the reading as there seems to be a couple of drops where the color change happens. So i'm not sure if I take the reading just as it changed, in the middle of the change, or after it stops changing color. Of course each drop is a .2 reading so its not a huge difference in the outcome.
At first it was confusing. It takes time getting the correct color in the vale. But with a few practices and some patience it became easy. The videos on youtube were a great help also.
Good quality product, nicely fits into a hard plastic box for storage, the cards are laminated and everything is designed to last. Everything is color coded so you use the right siringe with each test. Takes some time to do the tests, but the accuracy is worth it, good things don't come easy.
Actually, these tests work well, now that my lfs gave me some pointers. Instructions could be better regarding timing of the drips and what to watch for with the color change.
The 1 ml titration syringes have different color tips, but I still labeled them to make sure I only use a certain 1 ml syringe for each test. Easy instructions to follow.
This test kit is great. It features easy to read results and the test itself is very easy to administer. The one thing is that I wish it had a larger case to keep everything in.
This is priced perfectly for beginner reefers. Three very important tests and very easy to perform. Hanna checker is the way to go long term, but if you need a cost effective way to test for CA, ALK, and MG, I can't think of any better test kit.
I've been using this kit for a year or so and like it a lot. The cons that I list don't really take much away - they're mostly nit-picky. The kit is still very good. Pros: -very accurate, end of titration is easy to see within a couple drops -I like that refills are available -Good value for three kits -Nice plastic box to hold everything in - good for water environment. -Instructions are clear and printed in color on heavy, glossy cardstock - good for water environment. Cons: -The box is a little small and everything is pretty jammed in there -The small syringes work well, but the labeling wears off within a year of bi-weekly use. -The titrator handle thing is really not very useful. I'd rather swirl the solution with one hand and add drops with the other so I skip the titrator.
Can't beat this kit. Very accurate and easy enough to do to keep on top of your dosing.
This kit is easy to use and accurate. I have been using it for several years and am very pleased with its performance.
Solid. Easy to use. Read the instructions and there is a wonderful youtube video... Accurate
Much more exact measurements than the API kits everyone starts with. I can't believe it took me 8 years to find this level of accuracy.
It was intimidating when i first opened it but once i red the instructions it made a lot more sense and was pretty simple. Wish it was color coded and the container was a bit bigger, but besides that a great test kit to get started.
I have been using this combination of kit for six + months now and I like them. I like how accurate they are. If I ever doubt the results I can go back and do the test again (more slowly) and get the same result almost 100% of the time. Once you watch the YouTube videos and get into the habit of things this is a very easy kit to use. Now to the negative. The syringes are junk. the 10 ml syringe is not easy to read, it's not accurate at all and the worst part is the measurements on the outside wear off quickly. They just rub off with normal use. The 1 ml syringes do the same. If you use the titration tool you will find out that the measurement lines on the syringes will disappear quickly because the syringes are pressed into it. After a month of use (testing twice per week) I had to find new syringes. They should color code each test. Make all the labels, syringes, vials of each separate test a certain color. I labeled all of mine so I don't accidentally use a solution from another test while testing. It's very easy to mix them up. How to improve the product: 1. Better quality syringes. 2. Color code each test (CA, ALK, MG) separately. 3. Make the box slightly larger as it's a pain to pack everything back up.
Best ever! Very easy to read, very easy tests to do.
Well thought out test kit, important that these three are grouped together. Not the most simple tests I have use, but more accurate, and readable results. Once you get through the instructions on the first test, they are easy to do.
When i first opened the box i saw syringes, vials, bottles, mixers and booklets. My first thought was "Great, now I have to get a chemistry degree", but that's not the case! The instructions are very easy to read, they come in a written form and little cards that are very self explanatory. Test are accurate and refills are very affordable, the box it comes in is a durable plastic, can be kept around water without breaking, compact. Over all great low budget test kit!
Great kit, super precise. Read the instructions once carefully and you will be good to go. Just take your time the first time you use the kit.
I use Red Sea test kits exclusively for my 120 and 80 gallon tanks. Extremely accurate and easy.
For the price you can't beat this! It's extremely accurate and easy to use. Personally I love the kit and think it's a very important part of the hobby! Wish I could get it back packed away in the box though!
This is a very easy to use test kit that is very accurate. So easy that I taught my 5 year old nephew who helps me with tank maintenance to use it. Also great price for many test.
Good test kit containing everything need to do quality tests. Three separate vials for the three tests. I labeled each vial so that I do the same test in each vial. The titration tool makes the process easy. Would be nice if the chart and the titration tool matched scales. What you read on the titration tool is how much is left in the tool but the chart shows how much solution caused the transition. You must take the result of (1.0 - reading on tool) before looking up the number in the chart. This is not a big deal, just a minor inconvenience.
A bit of a pain to use and more so to get it back in the box. Seems reasonably accurate but that's dependent on reading results which is not always the easiest.
Ease of use ,exact readings !!! Can't beat it !!!
I have been using this brand of test kit for nearly 2 years and am completely happy with it. You get a good number of tests for the money and it has lab like equipment that makes titration very easy. Individual refills are also available at a good cost. Youtube has additional videos released by Red Sea that shows the tests step by step.
Its a good test kit if your upgrading from API junk. The main challenge with this kit is the color reading. It is often easy to have trouble identifying the finishing point. Especially for alkalinity, the test end color is easy to pass up if you go for red. Also the calcium if you are not quick enough it turns into purple quickly after it changes to the blue end point. For this reason I regret buying it I feel like photometers are worth every penny. I hate this kit but it works for the price, If you are building an SPS reef or a ULNS this test kit is not for you. Accuracy is important if you want amazing color.
came quickly and easy directions I believe its pretty accurate I would recommend this to a friend
Easy to use, easy to read, and well made. What's not to like?
The test kit is easy to use and read, it is much better then my big box store test kit. My only issue is getting it all back into the case.
A bit more complicated than other test kits I have used but I am finding it very accurate. No more asking my wife what color is this close to. Well worth the money only wish I can get Red Sea products easier in Canada.
I have always felt like I was one hand short when testing. This kit solves that problem. The included titration tool really helps, and feels more secure. No more thumb on the end of the test vial for me!
bought this tired of my old test kit this had great reveiws so bought it
recently switched to this red sea test kit. I really like the titration method vs. all the other types of kits. Red Sea went above and beyond on this testing kit. Mess free and simplicity make this kit a winner! A must need if you are dosing 2 part.
Simple instructions plenty for your money. and helpful youtube vide available if you need um.
The Red Sea products are great. They are easy to use and read the results. The storage box for each kit is awesome, because I'm a little nuts about being neat and organized. Would highly recommend this and other Red Sea products as well as BRS..!!!!
Easy to use once you learn how to or watch video on how to use it. Very easy and accurate.
Test kit is very easy to use and read which is a relief. I hate other test kits that make you read a variation of the same or similar colors. This one is very easy to use and when the colors totally change from one color to another you know you are finished. Easy to understand instructions are included and all equipment is well made. Very nice test kit.
Great test kit with titrator method. No more color comparisons!
Accurate. Easy to use.
Awesome company to order from. Usually arrives the very next day sense I am in Wisconsin.. A++++
Great kit. I used a few other test kits and this is the best one by far. The case holds every thing nicely. The dispenser is great. When testing you can't miss the color change.
I find the Rea Sea products to be easy to use and somewhat accurate. I do get some variation in test results - but all within some reasonable range.
Hands down the best test kit I have ever used. Very easy to read, no more trying to tell what color blue it is. The color change is very obvious and easy to read.
I switched to using Red Sea test kits over a year ago and I find them much easier to use. The color changes are more pronounced than competing products and the multi test kit comes in a nice plastic container to keep your test kit organized.
I really like the Red Sea test kits. Results are accurate and easy to read. They use quality materials such as real glass and my favorite feature is the titrator. Makes testing SO much easier. Plus the fact that you can get refill reagents has to make this one of the best test kits on the market
I lost several expensive SPS corals by trusting the readings on this kit. I own two Red Sea Reef Foundation test kits, both of which return grossly mismatched results. Magnesium will show < 1300ppm in one kit and >1600ppm in the other. dKH consistently returns .5 difference between the two kits. I can’t even compare the two kits for Calcium. I just found out the Calcium part B reagent in one of my kits was so bad it had to be recalled! Overall, I find the kit relatively easy to use and the plastic case keeps everything together well, but that doesn’t matter if you can’t trust the results. If you want a titration kit, and don’t want to pay the premium for a reliable Salifert kit, then this kit may be an option. Just make sure you try the kit at your local fish store before buying!
Easily the best and easier to read in my opinion
My seven year old was able to read the instructions and guide me step by step-- that's how easy it is. Well packaged--love the plastic storage case. You won't be disappointed with this product.
Great quality test kit! It was hard to figure out how to get the syringes perfectly measured at first but I saw a few videos on YouTube and was good to go after that. A must have for any serious reefer.
The test is presented very well and mostly intuitive. The only issue I had is that it wasn't obvious how to pull the solutions into the titration syringe. The gap that is always there between the end of the plunger and the water line is suppose to be there. I wasn't aware of that until recently after some searches. Just be aware of that when using but I think it's a good product so far. I haven't compared the tests w/ another brand though.
cant beat the price and everything is accurate as far as i can see
