EcoSystem Aquarium's Miracle Mud is a specialized substrate designed for saltwater refugiums, crafted from deep-water oceanic mud, minerals, and trace elements. This unique blend creates an ideal environment to support a thriving ecosystem within your aquarium. Its carefully balanced particle composition and mineral makeup promote a robust biofilter, while also serving as an excellent foundation for macroalgae and other beneficial refugium organisms. As water circulates through the mud, it naturally replenishes essential trace elements, contributing to overall reef health.
Key features of this refugium media include its ability to support and maintain vital trace element levels, which are crucial for coral and invert health. It boasts an excellent particle size, facilitating both aerobic and anaerobic biological filtration, and may even assist in the prevention of Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE) in fish. This versatile product is compatible with both fish-only and full reef aquariums, offering a broad spectrum of benefits for various saltwater setups.
Whether integrated as the primary filtration method or as a supplementary component in your system, Miracle Mud is perfect for aquarists looking to cultivate a diverse and healthy ecosystem. It helps in maintaining stable nutrient and trace element levels, making it a valuable addition for both novice hobbyists seeking to simplify water chemistry and experienced reefers aiming for optimal water quality.

Used this product 24 years ago in a mixed reef 120. Kept corals happy and growing with little effort. Just getting back to the hobby and am using it again with macro algae and skimmer. Everything is VERY happy. It does look different than the stuff I used years ago, which was more of a mud consistency with fine particles. This is more of a rock/gravel substrate but seems to work just as well. For my 60 gallon reef it cost 20$. Way worth the risk for it being “snake oil.”
I will say that my experience with this stuff has been overwhelming good. My first 2 years where excellent, then on batch for some reason or another seemed "off". Yes you still need a skimmer with this, despite what the instructions say. Also, the amount they recommend is extreme IMO. Directions in general could use an update. MM does help control nitrates and phosphates( adds trace elements too), maybe indirectly by helping macro algae grow. It definitely replaces carbon as a filtration. That said it could become a detritus trap if your filtration concept isn't on point. I've actually been using it in larger fine mesh bags for easier instalation and removal, and to help keep bristle worms from moving in. Fish and coral health will improve. I would espcially recommend w/acros or other difficult SPS coral, for some reason there polyps will open up with this stuff.
Not sure why I was nervous about this stuff. I have heard stories about mud particulate spreading throughout the tank if you don’t follow these 15+ steps. Not the case here. I am building my mud volume over time so I don’t shock the system. 75gal display - 30gal sump. Added just 2lbs this round to my established set up. Here was my steps: Open bag and pour contents into provided tray. Hydrate mud and let sit for one minute Turn off return pump and add mud tray slowly into chamber 2. Wait one minute and turn on return pump Not even the slightest amount of particulate is floating in chamber two. Super clean addition. 5 minute process. I also added at night when the corals polyps are closed. Curious to see if I will notice any difference when I come home from work tomorrow. Will buy more again in a month or two.
This product is awesome since I have put it in my system my fish's color has gotten so vibrant and my total system has gotten so much clearer I would recommend this product to everyone. I what thank Mr. Leng Sy for all the work and research he has put into this for the hobby I wish I had done my homework when I got into the hobby I would have used this from the beginning
I'm a lazy reefer and I've been using this since the 90s. It does what it says, when I haven't used miracle mud I've used the solution and I've cure fish with HLLE in days soaking food with it.
