Much better than other cheaper carbon. It rinses quickly and is not powdery.
I purchased this for use in my 15 gallon and 90 gallon reef tanks. This makes my water crystal clear.
If you want a crystal clear aquarium or want to help prevent orders coming from your fish room this will do the trick. I run this in my aquarium with amazing results along with running this on my clients tanks via a reactor.
If you have an aquarium fresh or salt this is the carbon to use.
This carbon is the answer to a fishkeeper’s prayers—or at least the ones about water clarity and tank odor. I bought it hoping to keep my aquarium from smelling like a day-old seafood platter, and it’s delivered. This carbon is shaped like chocolate sprinkles, but instead of tasting sweet, it just makes the tank look sweet, cutting down on yellowing and lasting weeks without needing a change. I’ll be honest: the minimal carbon dust alone is worth a standing ovation; I’ve had enough of the “rinse for days” routine with other brands. If you’re tired of carbon that disappears faster than your patience for cloudy water, This Carbon is worth every penny. I recommend it wholeheartedly—unless you’re the type who enjoys the scent of fish funk wafting through your living room.
Best Carbon on the market. Thank you
This is easy to pack into bags and rinse and add to your tank. Helps to polish the water as well as remove harmful things you don’t want
This stuff needs practically no rinsing. Super clean and easy to use stuff. Great outcome on the water clarity and I can't even smell the tank. Running it in a reactor mixed with GFO.
A-Squad of activated carbon! Just make sure to get a fine media bag to hold it in!!
For high quality charcoals for your filtration chamber, this is it. I was very happy to get this on sale. My only nitpick would be that you really need to make sure you tighten that media bag or whatever else you are putting it in, as these bits are small and can sneak out and into the display!
Simply put, there is no better aquarium carbon on the market. This is a no-brainer buy.
I used a mesh bag with 2/3 a cup or so of this carbon as the primary filter medium for restoring a crashed and neglected AIO nano. The tank had massive algae buildup and very high nitrates and phosphates. I siphoned some of the organics out with couple 50% water changes, but the ROX in the filter compartment did at least half the work straining out the suspended particulates and absorbing the dissolved organics and associated odor. The capacity of this stuff to absorb crud is incredible, far greater than other carbons I’ve used. The carbon took the algae and organic load down, then i swapped in a fresh batch of ROX and the nitrate dropped fast as the remaining algae sucked up the reduced supply. After another week, a few algae scraping sessions and a 40% water change, the phosphate concentration dropped to an ideal range. I’m sure this stuff in moderation works great to keep a clean tank clean, but it’s a super workhorse if you’ve got a dirty job on your hands.
I was pleasantly surprised how clean this carbon is. It requires so little rinsing. Seems to work well too. So far so good!
I have used this carbon for a while great out come.my aquarium stays clear and helps my perimeters stay at where they should be.
Great quality ROX for a reactor. People here complaining about it don't know how to use it properly.
I have been running this carbon in the BRS Deluxe Carbon/GFO reactor and it is amazing how greatly it has improved the water clarity in my tank. It was also extremely clean. There was virtually no dust or debris that needed to be be cleaned out before running output water from the reactor into sump.
I tried a few other carbons prior to this one to try and save a few dollars but this has been an amazing carbon. Rises clean almost instantly and I only need to use half the amount to get longer lasting and clearer water.
Switched from Marineland carbon. Marineland carbon worked great for say 3 to 5 days before water starts to cloud. This stuff is like the Energizer Bunny and it working great on the same (over crowded) quarantine tank now for well over week--water is still very clear and i am using half as much... You can tell it is much more porous because it's super light, almost wants to float. Fine mesh bags on amazon work great. Highly recommend--cheaper than changing out less quality carbon more often for sure!
There's not much to say, it simply is the best carbon you will ever use. Highly recommend it.
love it
If you run carbon, look no further. Polishes the water in a matter of hours, minimal rinsing needed, little bit goes a LONG way. The small pieces can make a mess when you are changing it out of your bag or reactor, but its absolutely worth it.
This is the cleanest, highest quality carbon I have ever used. Works as advertised. Be sure to use a media bag, the grains are on the small side but the results are well worth the additional caution.
Use only Rox, change in every 2 months in a non stocked aquarium. It runs clean almost instantly. Very easy to use. I only use this and will never switch back to anything else. Great job guys, love all BRS products.
Perfect size and practically washes clear.
I use it in both my freshwater tanks and i love it. Water seems cleaner within hours . YOU HAVE TO USE A FINE MESH SOCK OR BAG OR DONT BOTHER USING IT. its great
Test for reviews
Pristine water everytime. Very clean.
100% would recommend! Water seems to clear up in hours. I use ROX 0.8 and Red Sea carbon, and I haven't regretted either. ROX seems to absorb so much more than any other carbon, so you only need half as much to get the same job done.
I have a 125 gallon aquarium fill with Malawi Chiclids. This carbon is amazing. Use only one tablespoon per 10 gallons. It keeps my tank water crystal clear. The water has NO oder whatsoever. I don't even think I need to rinse the carbon before using it.
Works great. I have a tang and he is perfectly healthy. No lateral line issues at all.
Works very good
Awesome. Using in m BRS dual reactor. No problems. Keeps tank crystal clear.
This is the best carbon I have used. It is a little more expensive than the other types out there but well worth it. I'm currently using it in my 220 gallon mixed reef tank along with a bag of Purigen and a Poly Filter pad. The water is crystal clear! The water was noticeably clearer within 24-48hrs after it was implemented. The product is very low in dust and rinses very easily as well. Will definitely continue to purchase!
This is by far the best carbon i have ever used. Using the recommended amount and changing it monthly keeps the tank crystal clear.
I have been using this carbon for over two years. I used to use other brands but this beats them all.
Been reefing for 8 years now and never bothered or thought much of using carbon because my water looked clear to me. This definitely made my water look a step clearer. Worth it.
After watching the carbon comparison on Brstv , decided to go with this to use on my reefer 170 cause it started to get really cloudy, couldn’t see anything in the tank, after put it in my reactor in my sump for 2 days the water is super crystal clear ! FYI the pellets is really tiny, I use it with my innovative marine midsize reactor and a lot of them come out of my sponge into my tank, other than that great product definitely will buy again when mine run out.
Very little dust easy to rinse with RO water, works great
Used in a 400 gallon freshwater setup with tons of driftwood and tea-stained water to match. Placed 1lb inside of a canister filter and three days later, crystal clear water. Even my wife took note of the difference, she's not a hobbyist. Great product!
I had used BRS lignite for the past few years and decided to try the ROX. What a difference! Rinses clean in seconds, and I also reduced the volume I was using. Still great results.
I like that is has very very little dust, I rinse with R/O water and comes clean quickly.
Clean, easy to handle. I use it in a IM desktop reactor in my JBJ RL45. Rox on the bottom, separated by one of the little sponges and Purigen (great stuff too!) on top. Can't beat the combo.
Decided to try BRS Rox 0.8 Carbon in a BRS Carbon Reactor after my new Red Sea Reefer 250 setup was still cloudy after two months. I set everything up and left the room for an hour. When I came back the water was clearer than ever. The fish and coral almost looked like they were in high def compared to before. It’s a Triton setup so I’ve removed the filter socks so a Skimz algae reactor and the Rox Carbon are my only methods of filtration and everything looks great. Also if you watch the video where they run the Carbon in a media bag and then compare to the reactor. I found the same to be true. It’s no contest, go with the Carbon reactor for spotless water!
I use this stuff mixed with the high-density GFO in the BRS mini reactor and it works great. It goes about 3 weeks on medium bio load before exhaustion.
Absolute perfection by design. Low fines, pure source and great duration! Excellent!!
It's demonstrably the best carbon on the market. Done. Hands down.
There are a few very good carbons out there. This product is right up with the best of them. Price is right, and it does the job the way I want. If your serious about your reef tank, use this product. It works and works well.
I've been using carbon for over three decades, Never before have I used something that truly lives up to its own claim. Using this in a home made reactor, it cleaned up my water to nearly crystal clarity. It's been 2 days and the water quality just keeps improving. In my 110x tank, I used about 500cc of this product in a home made reactor driven with a Maxi-Jet 1200.. My water went from a gentle tannin brown with a slight haze to completely colorless and polished. Not even my Marineland polisher did this good a job. Running the blue lamps at night yields nearly zero haze. I'm completely sold. I'll never go back again.
Really easy to use in my BRS Dual Reactor, and was really quick to rise out in a matter of seconds and have had absolutely no dust. Water is crystal clear on my 150G and didn't have to use as much as I thought with my previous carbons.
From the low dust and ease of use to the longevity of your carbon I feel that it is superior to others in the field.
BRS TV testing methods and results were credible and personal results fell in line with them. Love the low dust and the great performance. The higher capacity/better performance far outweighs the higher cost.
I really like how this has low dusty fines, and doesn't take as long to rinse. Since it takes less product than other carbons, I'm able to run this in the brs mini reactor.
Low dust, rinsed easily, excellent water clarity
The Rox 0.8 carbon is the answer! Good stuff. Don't waste your time or money buying any other carbon. It lasts a long time and unlike other carbons, this stuff actually does what it's supposed to do and it does it exceedingly well.
This product is hands down the best quality carbon ice ever purchased. Worth every single solitary penny.
By far the best carbon to use! This is all I have used in my fish tanks for years
A first-time user. This carbon rinses easier than any I have previously used. Water is noticeably clearer. A bonus is that you can use a lesser quantity which offsets the cost.
Gets the job done and then some!
I have prepped other carbon products before and this BRS ROX 0.8 is very impressive. I would say that it is virtually free of carbon fines. The first time I prepped this, I had to do it twice because I thought I messed up when very little carbon dust washed out. I run this carbon 24/7 on my 100g soft coral tank and the corals seem to like this better than the other carbon products I have used in the past.
A little pricey but worth it. Virtually dustless.
love it
I switched from a pre packaged carbon after the media bag it came in let carbon loose into my system. I gave this a shot, it works as described. In only a couple hours I can notice a significant difference in water clarity.
BRS Rox is the best, very clean carbon
I put 8 tablespoons in a filter bag and placed in my susnsun 403 and 24 hours later water is CRYSTAL clear, I noticed it getting clear in just a few hours.
I've been using the lower quality version and i must say, the difference in price is worth it. Ill be ordering more when i deplete my current supply!
Very efficient in removing impurities due to its small particle size and very high surface area.
Working great. And so light and easily used.
Only carbon I would use, fresh or Marine.
I'm still pretty new to the hobby so I haven't used many different products. I used this carbon after reading all the positive reviews and they were right. Works really well and is low dust so it's easy to use as well.
Almost no dust, great performance and value.
I have to say, at first I wasn't sure if it really could be "that much better"... but after using this for about a month, I have to say it made the water clearer than the old dusty carbon I used to use. This will always be running in my reactor going forward!
Starting using this carbon due to wanting to run a smaller reactor. Made the switch from lignite. Couldn't be happier. No dust and rinses clean almost immediately.
Works as advertised...low fines...doesn't clump...keeps the water clear and clean!
Clears water over night , only carbon I will put my hard earned money down on. Water looks flawless. Worth the money product goes a long ways. I truly believe saves money over the cheaper carbons out there. Use less , save money , get color/ odorless water in hours and save money , win win to me.
Great stuff that doesn't cloud up the tank with black dust like some of the others. It also doesn't get everywhere and stain stuff. As far as carbons, this is the best in my opinion.
let the reviews be your guide :)
This product provides low dust and long lasting performance. You may pay a little bit more for this product but it's worth it and it is now the only carbon I use in my reef.
i have the duel reactor with the GFO and carbon canisters.i can't say how happy i am with this product i have seen a great change in my 90 gallon tank. the water is so crystal clear with no nitrate or nitrite problems and its easy to use. it doesn't break down as fast as other carbons that i have used over time.i would continue to recommend and use this product.thank you.
i used this on my reef tank and now also use it on my planted tank. Great Carbon!
I can't speak more highly of this product. I've used small and large pellet carbon over the years with acceptable results... mainly due to price and ease of access to it locally. I gave ROX Carbon a try when it was on sale for the BRS Group Buy last month. WOW! This cleans out super well and need almost no rinsing. Won't ever get the cheaper carbon again.
Low dust, high performance, long lasting. Worth the extra $. Only carbon I use.
Product was fantastic for me - put about 400g into a media bag and put it into a high flow area of my tank, within hours it was visibly better (and I took before and after pictures to verify that it wasn't just my eyes!) weeks later the water remains clear! have used many types of carbon in the past. You get what you pay for.
Pelletized carbon is quite smaller than I expected when buying, but I think the surface area explain the effectivness of the media. I look forward to see my water crystal clear.
Running this carbon for just a few hours my water is super clear now. Brs has some great videos that can help everyone out. That is how I leaned about this type of carbon. Thanks brs
Crystal clear water.
If your not a believer in this carbon you need to watch the comparison video brs put out on the different types of carbon and side by side visual tests for how each one performs and strength of pellets from dusting. Since I've been using rox I literally only need to run a reactor with carbon for five days a month and change media every third time and that is enough to keep yellow tint and stank away. It is well worth the cost which really isn't bad and by far pays for itself in quality and results. I'm just here to reassure you it does the same thing at your house as it does on that video!!;)
If you run carbon in your system, water clarity is unbeatable.
I have used many different carbon media over the years. This is the best one I have used. Very low amount of dust.
Put some of this stuff in my new 180 gal bowfront, water was starting to get cloudy. Just rinsed it and dumped about 4 cups in a filter sock. 1 week later, crystal clear water. I wish I'd tried this stuff about 4 years ago. Gonna set up a reactor for my 100 gal tank. Fricking awesome stuff.
It is really nice. Rinses really njce
Works for a long time, little to no dust. Will only by carbon from BRS!
Love the ROX Carbon , I run it in a canister filter on my 210 mixed reef. It helps keep my tank crystal clear for about 8 weeks and what I really like is it needs very little rinsing . I will always use this over others in the future.
This is the best carbon on the market bar none..... Be careful not to over do this product it will strip the water in a hurry.
BRS offer of three different carbon media choices is intelligently done. Although the ROX 0.8 costs a little more, it has longer efficacy, which equates to savings over the less expensive stuff. Can't always afford the best, so I often skipped over the ROX, going for the lignite. I then watched Ryan's video on their different carbons medias offered at BRS, did the math, and found that I would actually save a little. Again, a reactor is the way to go. Not only is more of the carbon utilized, but the ROX is small and may not work with most mesh media bags. For unsolicited advice, I would say to take advantage of the BRS calculator, instead of Kentucky windage, to determine the right amount to use. "If a little is good, then a lot is better," really doesn't apply here. You can't go wrong with ROX 0.8 .
Real quick rinse, noticed a clear difference between Rox 0.8 and my old kent marine carbon. no going back!!
I use this carbon in my aquarium and I use it in a reactor. This carbon works great and isn't very expensive which is nice because I use carbon in all my tanks. BRS amazes me again with yet another great product.
Love it!
Have a 40 gallon Nuvo, noticed water was yellow during water changes, after first week water was noticeably clearer. Well worth the price and changing out 2 tablespoons every two weeks will last a long time.
Dropped this in my mini reactor and within hours I could see a noticeable clearing of the water...the yellowing compounds being almost completely absorbed by the carbon. Great carbon...best out there.
I added this to my brand new BRS Deluxe Reactor and BAM, my water clarity increased significantly. Emmeril would be proud.
