I bought a 300W one on August 17, 2021. Today is the day it died. Didn't notice any issues while it was working. On par with what others say on the longevity.
I bought a BRS heating element 600 W. It burned out before the warranty. Call customer service to get a replacement. Send them a photo of the receipt and the 3year warranty information pamphlet I got with the equipment. I asked him if they still need a copy of the receipt and the prior to be sent in because that’s what it was saying on the information that they came with with the heating element they said no that’s fine. You can dispose of it we’ll send you a new one and it was here in a couple days. Would highly recommend working or using Brs product
I have had nothing shy of success and satisfaction with using these elements. I've recently paired them with Helio controllers.
You will need to replace these at least every 3.5 years. They will last just when warranty ends. I would recommend Fluval or Eheim as they last for years.
My 300w lasted for 5+ years. Now I got a 600w for my new 125g tank. I’m sure it will last many years too.
Replaced three 300W in 2 years, these are not the best by far.
Efficiency isn't the strong point, the price and the fact they've never sent stray voltage into my reef certainly are though. I'm going on year 3 with 2 heating my roughly 200 gallon system and no issues so far. They definitely don't short cycle on and off. But also have causes me no issues so far. They pair very well with the Finnex heater controller and have proved good use over a reasonable period of time.
I have two that are monitored for power fluctuations and alternate usage back and fort... they've been in place since these originally were launched years ago and still working like new. I thought I had a problem at one point but turned out they hadn't been cleaned in forever. Worked like new after, probably due to clean again.
I have been using a 200w unit for about 18 months with no issues so was no was easy decision to order the 300w unit for my new larger tank. Great piece of equipment.
I have a total 5 of 300W heaters and some are 4 years old and still going strong. I wonder if the bad reviews are from people running them in lower flow situations or sub-optimal placement?
Running the 200w heating Element with my Hydros Controller. Has been functioning perfectly.
Pretty disappointed in this heater I had it for a year and a half 300w heater my temperature was up and down wasn’t working had to take it out
Bought the 600 W model at the end of November 2021 and stopped working around December 2023. I expect better longevity from Titanium heater.
18 months or so. Expected a few years from it.
I have two 1200 watt (2-600W each) setups with these heaters... 1) A 4 year old (150 gallon) freshwater system. Honestly, these things have been bulletproof on this system... working great, pretty much zero issues. 2) A 2.5 year old (roughly 200 gallon) saltwater system. I cannot get these things to last a year in this system. I've gotten replacements multiple times, and just about every 6-12 months I'm having to replace them again. I'm not sure if it's the difference between the freshwater and saltwater system? If the older ones were a different version (like pre-cost savings type thing)? But I'm really starting to think there has to be better options out there that are more reliable.
I have two 300 watt heaters installed in a 90 gallon with a Neptune controller for just over a year now. So far, no issues.
I'm 5 yrs in on a tandem pair running without fail on a 300 gal. However many years it's been since they launched. Set up my apex to alternate use and monitor power. If the primary fails in any way I'm alerted and the second unit takes over. Thought about replacing but upon inspection there's still no need.
Bought a 200-watt heater and after about 14 months discovered that my Finnex temp controller and BRS 200-watt heating element were both fried. Cant say wether one took out the other for sure, or by chance they both died at the same time. I would highly recommend running a backup just in case you own one of these as my tank dipped down to 65 F and I lost several corals in the process. Ive been running Finnex heating elements for years now and will probably go back to them
After reviewing numerous positive and a handful of negative reviews, I thought I'd weigh in on this product. Purchased the 600w with Inkbird controller for my 140g reef tank back in NOV 2019. Even though I'm beyond the BRS 3-year warranty period now, I've had zero issues with the unit. Won't hesitate to purchase another when the time comes!
My BRS 300w heater went out within 6 months. I wasn’t going to write a review on this heater but after seeing all the reviews with the same problem I had it changed my mind. Need to take this off the market. It’s way overpriced for a piece of junk that can crash your tank.
I should’ve listened to the reviews. My 300W failed in 6 months. Luckily I had my Jager backup or I would’ve crashed my system. Avoid at all costs.
Received replacement heater and it’s failed in 10 months, the first one lasted 4 months, can’t recommend the 600 watt, still waiting to hear back if they will replace the second one or not.
Seems like the 300w titanium heater is defective. I took my equipment off my aquarium until I got to inkbird/heater. Turned out the heater was causing stray voltage into the tank. Unplugged it from ink bird into socket, to make sure it want the inkbird. And well, I still got shocked. Well I got the replacement after contacting BRS customer support and still got the same issue. Even after isolating all equipment and even hooking heaters to outlet and using 5 gallon bucket of water to test for stay current. Same result. Unsatisfied.
I have had my 600w for 6 months now. I have no complaints so far steady temperatures and no failures, that’s all I can ask for.
Failed after only 3 months, BRS issued a credit on my account looking for a different heater!
I have used dozens of heaters over the last 25+ years of saltwater fish keeping. About 15 years ago I had a heater fail off so I started buying a new heater every year to replace last years heater. When The BRS heater came out I was impressed by the solid design, and now exclusively buy this heater for my set up. I still change my heater out every year. The old one goes into my SW mixing vat, then the one from there goes into my RO/DI vat. I get 3 years out of a heater they they get retired. This way my aquarium always has a new heater on it. I get it in the summer when they are easy to get, then as the weather starts to cool (Here in Florida, maybe late November) I have some time to test it out. I feel I get my money worth using them for 3 years with the swapping out the old ones, as because the BRS heaters have a 2 year warrantee, I am confident I can use them for at least the two years. Great job, love the heaters.
Just got 2 of these a month ago and is heating great already. BRS support is always amazing and the Chat feature is just an added benefit. I am a repeat customer and BRS is my go to for all my aquatic needs.
Nice looks! Heats evenly across the length. I have two for redundancy running on the InkBird. Love that they don’t have a relay that can get stuck on and cook my pets.
Lasted about 8 months. Have had other heaters for years.
600w heater, failed in 6 months. Tripped the breaker. Luckily Apex gets power from multiple circuits and i built in heaters on separate circuits. Seems like a patterned failure. So much for the ultimate heater!
2 stars because I have 3 brs heaters. 1 of the 3 has failed in less than a year.
Have been running two of the 300 watt heaters for redundancy in my 525xl and so far so good. Accurate Temps with my inkbird controller. 5 stars
I have been running 2 of the 300w units and 1 of the 100w units for over 2 years now. Not a single issue to date with any of them. My new 250g peninsula will be running 2 of them as well.
I bought 2 500w heaters with the controller. Less than a year and a half and both have failed. BRS replaced one without a charge which was fantastic but after the second failed I was going to just buy another one and decided against it. Not sure if BRS should continue putting their name on these based on my experience and other reviews. Product is one star but giving it two because of the great customer service.
I have redundant inkbirds both running BRS heaters. I live in CA where it doesn’t even get that cold. Very low workload and they both last >6 months.
I bought 2 200w heaters. One to use in a 55 gallon and ordered a second as a spare. The heater in use is paired with the BRS heater control and has been going for 18 months now. Never an issue to date.
Bought 2 600w in late February of 2021 and both died November 2021. I highly recommend having a backup heater or heaters depending on your tank size. I would also look for a different heat source than the brs titanium heaters.
Great product! I just bought a second one for a backup!
Heats up the tank water fast and the body of the heating element is heavy and sturdy. Great material and a high quality product. Only thing you gotta watch out for is this needs a heater controller, otherwise it’ll keep heating up your water. I had mine in for a few hours and I felt the temp in my sump and it felt like the water was 100 degrees, no lie. I mean, it was only a 26 gallon sump so it made sense. Once again, buy the heater controller with this heater so you can control the temp.
I like no bells and whistles but only if it works. It died in less than 12 months. Will be contacting BRS shortly but it was unexpected. Looks sturdy but I guess looks can be deceiving. Sam
Had two 200W in my tank on an Apex controller and they were solid. Yesterday I noticed the trend for temp was unusual. One of the 2 had died completely and 1 was holding the temp up. I've only had them in the sump for maybe 5 months.
I use 2-100w titanium heaters with Inkbird ITc-306a.It’s a easy way to protect your aquarium from heater problems at a reasonable price.
I purchase a 200 watt titanium heater element in mid 2020 configured with an Inkbird controller and an Apex. I was attracted to the German manufacturer and the small form factor. This system did work very well in maintaining the appropriate temp. However, shortly before I installed the heating element in July 2020, I had an ICP water analysis that indicated I had 0 copper in my 120 gallon reef. In July 2021, my ICP report contained a copper reading of 9.145 micrograms/liter. The only significant change I made between both ICP analyses was the addition of the titanium heating element. I checked all of my pumps and found no exposed wire anywhere. I pulled the rubber cap back from the titanium heating element where the power cord enters and found a gap between the epoxy sealant and the cord. Did I discover the source of the copper? I can't say, but I don't intend to risk it.
was nervous on choosing a heater, most seem really cheap and such dum down to be a hobby grade deal and not a solid built one. The brs ones seem super solid i have 3 now 2 300w and a 600w The 2 300w handle my main on/off and the 600w is a back up to only come on when the other 2 can’t keep up
I have been in the freshwater hobby for 10+ years. I used so many heaters its not funny, ive had great success using a controller with eheim heaters. I just got thus heater today and WOW I'm impressed. Its very heavy and well manufactured. Ive used other titanium heaters in the past and thus is just far superior. Plus the 3 year warranty can't be beaten. Excellent job BRS!!
I've had th3 600w titanium heater operating now for almost 4 months and this heater is rock solid. I am using this on my 180 and it's more than enough heater for my tank.
The suction cup holders are terrible. They can’t hold the 600w unit to save them. It’s to heavy for the suction cups.
I have the 300 watt heater in the sump of my Red Sea Reefer XL300. Perfect size and keeps the temp at a constant 78 degrees. I have it paired with the new Inkbird 306A controller, which has been flawless especially with the WIFI app and dual temp probes.
I’ve got two 300 W titanium heaters connected to a BRS controller. Both heaters under a year old. Came home the controller alarm was going off, both heaters malfunctioned, stray electricity coming from both into my aquarium, the controller saved my tank. It will be really hard to trust these heaters after that.
Got the 200W for my 55 reef, including the controller. So far it does a great job keeping the temperature within set range. It was easy to setup and configure. Audible tone works awesome and literally just went off because my temp was higher than set range. My only complaint is the color. Not sure if any reef safe paint exists that could be use to cover the titanium, but the sliver stands out on my black tank background. I would still buy this versus any other heater.
very good heater no problems
My 200w had a bad weld and started oozing out a tad bit of blue stuff. I don't think any of it got in my tank and if it did I'm running carbon so I hope that got it. Sometimes with products you get unlucky. I trust Ryan enough to know this was bad luck and the heaters aren't cheaply made so thats why it's a 4 star review. If you know anything about BRS the customer support was a breeze and I'm saying that while in the middle of a pandemic. Word of advice is to at the very least buy a cheap backup if something like this happens. This is supposed to be a really good heater so I think buying a backup of one of these is a waste of money cause it should last a lot of years. Thanks for the quick service BRS and I believe Chad helped me out. I sent a picture in the middle of the day and got in the online chat and asked if he could please just take a look at the email and he did. We caught it right then and I appreciate not having to wait for someone else to look at the email because I probably would have put it back in my tank so thank you Chad!
These heaters are great - almost too good! A single 600w heater is pulling 660w, and heating my 160gal system by 1deg in only 20 minutes! This is way too fast, I'll need to down-size, and can't return the 600w heater as it's been in my tank. I wish I hadn't followed the wattage recommendations! I should have picked up a 300w heater for my 160g.
I have two 100w heaters in a 40 gallon breeder with a 40 gallon sump plus rock and equipment. Temp set at 78 on their controller with a 1 degree swing temp in tank when these were installed temp was 78 with two cobalt stealth heaters next morning temp was at 75. I don’t think the watts to gallons heating capability chart is accurate.
Got two 200w elements for my 300 gal. On a closed but vented hood and the typical sump equipment I'm able to heat with a single 200w BRS heater. When set at a 0.5 degree swing I'm cycling my heater on ~5 times a day. 1-2 times during lights on and 3-4 times during lights off in room at a constant 72 degrees. Takes ~3.5hrs to heat and 6-10hrs to cool. This is the minimum heater I can get away with at this size and a legit heater holder is necessary as this thing laying on a sump probably wouldn't end well.
Amazing build quality, small foot print. Tight fit in return chamber of Trigger 34 sump, but it did fit. Set my Apex to a temp range of 77.4-77.5 and the reading has been 100% stable @ 77.5 for the past 24 hours. I love my Jaeger heater but, I don't think I could go back to glass after this bad boy.
By far the best heater I’ve ever used in the 25 years I’ve been reefing. Along with the BRS controller you can’t go wrong
Best quality built heater I e seen so far. Good going on this one.
We dropped two 600's in the sump with the BRS controller and it's on temp all the time. Unbreakable, with a three warranty. The new standard in the industry.
I purchased one 600W BRS Heater to replace two old 250w offbrand heaters I had on a 75g tank in my garage. The previous heaters were allowing the tank to drop to 68 degrees during the cold nights. The BRS heater hasn't let it drop less than 0.1 degree from the setpoint! I'm very happy with my purchase. Now if those magnetic mounts would just come back in stock!
the heater element looks to be made in Germany. Very simple indestructible heater element which is what I’ve been looking for. I’ll control it with my apex which I have multiple temp probes on. Good call on OEMing this product BRS! Only time and many units in the field will tell, but so far this thing looks rock solid.
