Seachem Matrix is a high-porosity biomedia designed to provide efficient biofiltration in saltwater aquariums by removing nitrogenous waste such as ammonia and nitrite. Each liter of Matrix provides an extensive surface area, approximately 700 square meters, which supports the growth of beneficial bacteria crucial for maintaining water quality. Unlike traditional plastic media that only offer external surface areas, Seachem Matrix features both internal and external macropores, allowing it to also support denitrifying bacteria, thus helping in nitrate reduction.
