The JBJ Arctica Chiller 1/10 HP DBA-075 is a high-performance aquarium chiller designed to precisely stabilize water temperatures in saltwater and freshwater aquariums. It actively cools your tank water, preventing dangerous temperature spikes caused by lighting, pumps, and ambient room heat, thereby protecting sensitive marine life and maintaining a healthy aquatic environment. This essential piece of equipment ensures your aquarium remains within the optimal temperature range for corals and fish.
Featuring an exclusive titanium heat exchanger coil, this chiller maximizes contact exposure for efficient cooling and superior corrosion resistance. Its innovative condenser layout draws cool air from the front and exhausts warm air out the back, allowing for easy, tool-free cleaning of the condenser grill. Known for its energy efficiency, the 1/10 HP model consumes 115 Volts and 2.63 Amps, offering a cooling capacity of 1270 BTU/hr. It includes onboard temperature controls and is designed for a recommended flow rate between 240 and 960 GPH, backed by a 2-year warranty.
This JBJ Arctica Chiller is ideal for hobbyists seeking reliable and quiet temperature control for their nano tanks or systems where low noise is a priority. Well great looking unit but apparently I’ll have to order some hoses and fittings would have been nice to include that with such a pricey item.
I’ve had the same JBJ 1/10hp chiller for over 7 years. Honestly, I bought it used, and who knows how long the man before me had it. I consider this to be a staple of my success, and I’ll never have a tank less than 150g w/o one. I set it and forget it. I’ve never had to replace a part on it. I’ve only given it an acidulated bath twice bc the temp probe started getting a squirrelly. I clean the grille and wipe the condensers a couple of times per years. I’ve mostly had this running on a 75g SPS and a 45g SPS dom Mixed. I also run a 2LF bio-pellet reactor on the back end of the loop. I find a Sicce 1.5 400gph pump to be perfect for my needs. A Colbat/maxi-jet 1200 wasn’t quite enough.
Been running this on my 210 and Trigger 39 sump. I live in Denver and in the summer time it can get a bit warm. This chiller has no problem bringing my temp from 80 down to 79. Yes i let my tank get a litter warm. As far as noise when it's on its much like a fridge but the noise is nothing to complain about. Highly recommended.
took a 120 with 35 sump from 83 to 78 within 1 day. install easy should have waited till on sale cost me 60$ then sale 2 weeks later
I bought this chiller not knowing if it would chill enough to keep my 65 gallon aquarium at the right temperature. Other folks may have a different experience but here's mine. 65 gallon reef, Trigger systems sapphire 26. The AC was out in the house, 90 degree temperature outside, tank water temperature got up to 84. I ordered the chiller, tank water is now at 78. The chiller doesn't run that often and I hardly hear it when it does run. BRS had it shipped to me super fast and my corals have recovered from the "global warming" that took place for a short period of time in my living room display tank.... Expensive, but worth it, especially when considering the thousands of $$ already invested in the livestock and corals.
bought this product to cool a small 50 gallon reef tank in my high school classroom and now am using it on a 160 gallon reef and it brought the temp from 83 to 78 overnight and kept it stable. With my apex it only comes on about 2 to 3 times a day for a couple of hours
Easy install, very quiet and keeps the temperature in my 125G reef tank stable, even on hot days!
JbJ makes a quality chiller
I bought this chiller because I have my water change station in my garage, and here in South Carolina my 75 gallon mixing tank stays at 88-90 degrees all summer. The chiller drops the temperature to 78 overnight. Couldn't be happier.
The 1/10 chiller works as advertised. It chills my tank down to 77 in no time and is definitely quiet.
I'm using this product on a nano tank, with the expectation of moving to a 90 gal in the near future. This product lives up to its claims. It is very quiet and efficient. I would recommend this product to anyone in need of a high quality chiller.
I have the 1/10 HP model on a 55 gallon tank. Works very well. Quiet. You can calibrate the temperature sensor to match your other probes. It's been a bit finicky for me. When the chiller thinks it's dropped a degree, it has actually dropped 1.4*. So I went from having a tank that gradually crept up in temperature throughout the day by about 3* to one that swings up and down 1.4* throughout the day. I may put the setpoint higher to see if it's more stable.
I have Been dodging the chiller for hears but I can't this summer. I am happy with the chiller just one complain which is the front panel buttons could have designed better. I would recommend it especially for NYC hot weather in the summer
I install this on my 75 gallon tank ( 3 weeks ago), keep temp between 77.5 to 78.9 with a set point of 78. Happy with this product so so good.
Had been putting this off for so long, and with the heater running now in the winter tank been pushing the limits on the temp. Ordered this unit and working along with my Apex its keeps my tanks temp at a very steady temp. Work awesome and is so quite I hear a click when it starts up if I'm in the room other then that never even know its there except my tank temp is spot on. 75 Gal tank its working awesome. Sooooo Recommend.
I've been using this chiller for over 3 years now and the only maintenance that is done on it has been cleaning the hairs from my dog on it and some vinegar flushes. I am from PR, 90' degrees average and it runs almost all day without a problem.
I just got this chiller on 5/17/12 my tank was getting over 83 deg. out here in the arizona heat where its already 105 deg. in a matter of 24 hrs. the chiller had my tank down to 77.5 deg. must say very happy with how well this thing works and how super easy it was to install and setup. also very good on how quite it is....... all and all everyone should use this chiller
Used over this hot summer in NYC and it made a world of a difference on my coral and fish. Runs very quiet and you will only notice the unit running when the compressor turns on. Don't forget to purchase a pump to go along with the chiller. Using it on a 29 gallon nano.
I originally bought this chiller for a 28g Nano cube (over kill I know). But my intentions were to keep using this when I moved up to a larger tank. This thing is really quiet which was the main selling point because at the time I had my nano cube right next to my bed. I couldn't even tell when it turned on. The fans in the tank’s hood were way louder then the chiller. Since then I now have an 80g tank with a 40g sump and this chiller keeps it at a stable temperature no problem, without constantly being on might I add. Overall it is a great quiet chiller that you can tuck away off to the side without it being an eyesore.
I bought this because I have a tank in my bedroom and my wife would never stop complaining how loud our chiller was. A guy I met at my LFS told me this was the one I wanted. All I can say is every other chiller manufacture should be ashamed, you seriously can not even hear this thing is on. Unfortunately because the tank is quieter the gurgling coming from the tank seems louder and she is complaining about that now ...
