The heating element only lasted for about three months. Going through the warranty process was a pain and took two weeks to receive a new heating element. Then two months later the controller stopped working. Instead of going through the warranty process again I decided to just use my backup heater. I thought I was being smart buying an expensive heater and controller. Turns out my $70 backup heater was the best purchase.
Do not purchase any of these heaters. Like many others, the heating element has started failing and they will not honor their 5 year warranty. I have intermittent heating element failures and they insist I physically cut the power cord with scissors to send the unit back to them to test and determine if I'm owed a replacement. This means, I'd have to purchase a new heater in the meantime, basically nullifying any warranty they offer.
It was great on my 230g system, but after about 8 months it would always have error alerts. Today was the last straw. It errored that it couldn't read the probe. I tried everything to no avail. I bought 2 300 watt cheap ones today since my temp was around 70 degrees. It's slowly coming back up. I'll look at other reliable brands.
I've contacted Innovative marine about the element but they refuse to do anything i have the 1000 watt system that has 2 500 watt element. I bought less than a year ago. Was going to just buy the element myself to be done with it but no one has it for sale. It's been taken off the market. Ha wonder why. Could it be because of all the problems with it not working?
I bought two of The 100 watt heaters one for my 20 gallon freshwater tank and one for my 25 gallon saltwater tank. the freshwater works perfect, the saltwater not so much. its good for a couple days then jumps up over 78 degrees then back to normal.
I have two different Helio controllers and heating elements in separate 100 gallon systems. One of these controllers has worked flawlessly now for about a year and the other controller has now needed one new heating element (shorting out in the water) and now a new temperature sensor (Error Code E1). Although this is very annoying, I have to give the folks over at IM credit for giving excellent customer service and timely replacements. Other then the hiccups above, I love this heating controller!
This Heater is worth every penny, since the install, my tank has never seen a fluctuation in the temp more than .01. The best investment for you tank. I have it installed in my waterbox 20. I just wish I had bought this earlier. Have nothing but great respect for this product and def a big congrats to IM team for this amazing innovation.
I purchased the 200w dual element unit. I have this on my Innovative Marine 75 EXT with included sump. I placed the temperature probe in the first section of the sump and the two heater elements in the pump return section. The controller maintains a perfect 77 degrees. Would recommend.
Very stable water temps, even in my cold bedroom. It does have a notice "thunk" when it turns on and off that I haven’t tried to dampen yet
Packaging. Oh yeah. Ease of setup. Yas. Super consistent temp. You know it. User manual. Boom. You won’t be disappointed
I put the 100 watt version in my nano and after seeing the consistency in temperature I knew it was well worth the extra money. I tried 2 different heaters before this and the fluctuations in temperature were troublesome as I keep my room pretty cold. It’s easy to set up and the probe and element are completely hidden.
By far the nicest and most well thought out heater system I have owned in the past 30+ years. Attention to detail and excellent quality. Of course, it's a heater and remains to be seen if or when the controller and/or element die like the rest.
Nothing compares to this heater.
I was having trouble with some fluval heaters randomly stop attempting to heat, thankfully I had a backup that would kick in, but it was clear this was a risky setup. I ordered the Helio based on the reviews and literature available. And wow what a difference, it’s phenomenal. I was getting upwards of a 5.5 deg F change on the Fluval over the day and that was immediately changed to a 0.4 deg F change throughout the day. Wow! Packaging was very apple style, nice thick boxing with padding, it would take a lot to beat this up in shipping. Install was easy and simple. Definitely would recommend. I have the 350W option. The sensor matched my apex probe so no additional calibration was needed.
While the rest of this pkg looks rock solid the clip on the magnetic temp probe holder is a standout for being complete junk. Cheap flimsy gum ball machine plastic. Arrived broken. Very disappointing for something that costs so much to have them use sub par hardware
I have the 200W (dual element) on my Red Sea Reefer 170 G2 and I love it. The performance is very good so far. There is an audible click when turning on/off but it's not very loud at all. The magnet mounts for the heating elements are very strong. The entire package, including the packaging exudes quality.
I was approaching the end of my warranty for my old BRS heater and Inkbird controller. I had read that the Helio provides better temperature control. This heater is always within .5 of my target temperature and works excellently.
I have 2 of these now. One i have had since they were released. These keep a rock solid temperature. This is definitely not your father’s heater! All new tech compared to everything else out there! The magnetic mounts for the elements are a nice touch. I know these are still a newer product so longevity still remains to be seen . The only improvement they could make would be to include a bracket for the controller. I ordered brackets from Printed Reef.
My temp swings are gone, and temps are stable and spot on. I am a Helio fan for life.
Beautiful packaging! When you open the box the first thing you see is an insert thanking you for purchasing their product along with all the nice boxes and color pallet. I know that shouldn’t matter, but it makes me feel like they really take pride in their product. Heater was easy to set up, looks modern in my tank and has been working perfectly. I’m very happy with my purchase!
Quality, size and looks what made this heating element perfect. Except I have the double 200 Watt making it 400 Watt for my 85G Reeftank with 50 Gallon sump. 1 of the 2 heating elements keeps turning off since I installed it 3-4 days ago. I unplug it and plug it in again on the display/control and it works for about 12-24hours. And it turns itself off again. No green light and no error code. 3 major temp swings from 76 -79 in 3 days. Not good and nothing I can find on this either.
I have a 135gal display with 70gal basement sump. I previously had 2x 300w heaters with inkbirds controlling them. Temp swings were up to 2.5 degrees. Since installing the 700w setup, the system is down to .4 degree hickups. You could see on the apex chart when the heater was installed. Easy setup and nicely packaged as well.
Been using two 350 Watt dual-element heaters on my 200 gallon system and have had zero issues since installing them 7 months ago.
I have the 700W (2x350W) model. Worked great out of box. Love that the temp is preset to 77. Use it for my Waterbox Reef LX 190.4.
I did not buy mine from BRS, when I bought mine they were not selling them yet. I have used many different heaters, this system is bu far the best. I have run heaters through my Apex, stand alone and the BRS system. My heat moves less than a degree, it is very stable. A bit pricey but well worth the money, I have a 400 watt system running. I have messed with tanks since the 70s this is the most stable I have ever seen.
I've had the 200 Watt (Dual Element) Helio PTC Smart Heater for about a month now on a 20 gallon IM AIO and I have to say, I'm kind of impressed. Both of the elements have LEDs in the cord end so you can see when each is actually on which helped when they were deep down in the bottom of the filtration area. The controller display is simple and easy to use and comes with sticky velcro strips for mounting, and hold well. It has a cheesy retro 3D effect, but in a good way. The temperature probe also looks like it is titanium which is kind of a nice touch. I've had it set to 78 the entire time and I just now pulled out the NIST validated temp probe and it read exactly 78 in several spots in the tank. I hope the longevity lives up to the hype and I would definitely recommend these heaters. The only thing I would change is the low temp alarm when setting up the tank. I wish they would add some logic that if the controller was just powered on, don't alarm for low temp unless a certain amount of time goes by without the heat rising a certain amount. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/im-helio-heater-seems-good-so-far.880810/#post-9717498
I purchased the 400W version that includes dual 200W heaters. I bought this product specifically because the heaters were short, and would fit neatly along the back all of my Fiji-20 sump. The packaging is beautiful and thoughtful, so if you're into creating unboxing videos this should definitely be on your short list. I replaced an InkBird controller and dual Finnex 300w heaters. Overall, that was a great solution but it was time to replace the heaters (proactively) and I was never really happy that they were just kind of lose in my sump, bouncing off the skimmer. I LOVE that the Helio is fully invested in magnetic mounts. The heaters and the temp probe are not going anywhere. They'll stay where I put them and that's fantastic. I LOVE that the Helio offers "short" heaters like the 200W. Perfect fitment in my sump and that makes me happy. I LOVE that the Helio uses those round connectors for the probe and heaters instead of normal three-prong plugs. They save on space, seem safer from drips and overspray, and overall easier to manage in tight areas (and space is at a super premium in my cabinet). They'll also be easy to swap out when the time comes. The tech/safety they advertise seems great but I have no way to test that... but it all sounds really good. I don't mind that they don't have an app. I use an aquarium controller that has its own temp probe. That will alert me to troubles and I can take emergency action remotely if required. Overall, I found the setup and configuration to be very simple and according to my controller the temp in the tank has remained stable for two days (and we keep our house very cold in the summer, so it's definitely getting a workout). I was (at first) concerned about the included velcro strips for mounting. I've not had great luck with those in the past. However, whatever substance that is on these strips is SUPER sticky. That controller isn't going anywhere, and I have the inside of my stand coated with slick Marine SPAR varnish. My one gripe that keeps it from being 100% perfect is with calibration. My InkBird and Hanna CheckTemp were always in near perfect agreement... within a 10th of a degree of each other. The Helios was off, reading 1 degree higher than the CheckTemp (which I have a lot of confidence in). No worries, i'll just use the calibration function! Unfortunately, on the Helios, the calibration works fine... up to .5 degrees. Once I went just over that, it became wildly inaccurate. Trying to set it to -1 degree to get it in alignment with the CheckTemp, it changed it by -1.5 degrees instead. It seems like a bug in the code. It's not a huge deal, I just tried different calibration settings until I got "close enough," within two tenths of a degree, but it's a weird problem to have. Overall, I'm quite happy with it. I put a LOT of thought into heating this tank... and I think the build quality, commitment to magnetic mounts, and options on heater sizes makes Helios tough to beat.
I purchased this Helio PTC 1000w through Marine Depot back in March but didn’t set it up until about a month ago in my 242 tank. This is an awesome heater and very well built. Instructions are easy to follow. It has both low and high temp alarms which function correctly as I played around with them on my apex. I set this up with an EB4 due to amperage requirements. I also had some questions that were not included in the manual. I called innovative marine and they got back with me pretty quickly. So if you have the same question as Myself here it is; the two 500w heater elements were longer then the outboards of my tideline 48 sump so we’re both side of the magnets submersible? They are so attached on my baffles. If you purchase this which I recommend you will not be disappointed.
