The HMS Single Light Mount Kit offers a robust and sleek solution for mounting a single Aqua Illumination Hydra 32 or Hydra 64 LED light over your aquarium. Redesigned for enhanced strength, this system provides a clean, industrial aesthetic perfect for aquarists who prefer individual light mounts over a continuous rail system. It securely attaches to your tank, providing a stable and professional platform for your high-performance lighting.
This highly adjustable mounting system allows for complete control over your light's position. The included brackets for both Hydra 32 and 64 models can slide forward and backward, as well as twist, to achieve optimal light coverage and eliminate shadowing. The arm has a maximum height of 13 inches, a maximum outreach of 14.3 inches, and clamps securely onto rimless tanks up to 1.125 inches thick. Integrated wire guide clips are included to maintain a tidy and organized appearance by neatly routing the light's power cord along the arm.
This mounting kit is the ideal choice for owners of rimless aquariums, from 10 gallons and up, seeking a versatile and minimalist mounting option for their AI Hydra LED. It is perfectly suited for nano tanks, dedicated frag systems, or larger aquariums where multiple, independently positioned lights are desired. If you value precise light positioning, a clean setup, and a durable mounting solution, the HMS Single Light Mount Kit is an excellent investment for your reef tank.

It's hard to imagine a worse user experience. The wire channel is sharp and too narrow for the power cord, so you will definitely end up damaging the cord of your $500 light. There is absolutely zero slack in the 90 degree angle, so if you want to adjust the position of the light you're forced to take the entire thing apart. Terrible user experience, I do not recommend this product. I recommend either going with the gooseneck or a ceiling mount.
Good mount kit .. I have those in my aquariums .. people probably complain bc they don’t have idea how to put a screw in place
I strongly recommend going the ceiling mount, this bracket its not worth the price and struggle, i looked at the reviews and thought i would give it a try and see and man were they right! No matter what wires will get damaged unless u bend the heck out of the channels they go thru, i used wire lube and was very careful and still ended up damaging wire, it shouldn’t be that hard for wire to be ran thru channels, they should come up with a better hard mount that is more friendly for this light and wire thickness.
I bought two of these to hold a AquaIllumination 66” Smart Blade. The directions are crappy. A critical issue is the screws that hold the brackets are made of a really soft metal that the hex scrips the first time you tighten them. Be sure the mounting bracket is EXACTLY where you want it before tightening the screw at all because you will not be able to adjust after just one of the four screws strips. Also, you will never be able to adjust the height after the first time you set it. I’m starting at 10” above surface but thought later I might adjust that, no chance of doing that with these low quality brackets.
Had this light mount for under a week now and not 1 good thing to say about it. The cord channel is way too small for hydra 32 cords and I saw a review on here saying to lube it up and it will fit and don’t even try that I just mangled the cord on my hydra. Then the light mount leans and even though I have the mount plumb it’s fallen over 5 times in about 2 hours so now I have a 90 dollar light mount that is being held up temporarily with a roll of paper towels until a different mount comes in. Also the rubber feet are basically 3M tape and pulled off the mount and no longer stick. Absolute waste of money.
Should have listened to the reviews. What a horrible product. Purchased to use a Hydra 32 on my 20 gallon nano. Because or the application I needed the extra size of this mount rather than the flexible one, which i've heard also has problems. For starters, throw the directions away immediately and just watch the BRS video. Secondly, the nifty hidden cord in the channel thing will not work with the heavier gauge cord on the hydra 32. Maybe you could lube it up and force it but it obviously wasn't designed with any thought. Lastly, if you plan to use it at its full extended capability, don't. Figure out another way. It leans quite noticeably. Ive even tried to put some cardboard shims in the piece of junk clamp but it still does it. It shocks me that the makers of a quality light pair it with this shotty quality mount and that BRS sells it. You would really think for $90 they could have come up with a little better solution. Also, if you were going to try and use this for a 64, definitely find something else.
I read all reviews before I buy anything and all that was said about this mount was …the cord doesn’t fit in the channel whaaaaa boo hooo. A little lube on the cord and it went right in looks great and it’s sturdy don’t listen to the other reviews just buy it for your hydra
I knew what I was getting into when I saw the documentation and the material being used. It will take time, has sharp corners you need to be careful of, poor screws that you need to be careful with. The metal will strip easily, so being careful and cautious is critical. It needs more finish, and is a bit of a pain to setup. Grinding the edges to be less sharp would be nice... You also need to take the lights off from time to time, and putting them back is a real pain. Threading a nut into a channel is a pain. There needs to be a much better way created. I still scrape the skin off my hands when I am trying to clean the back of the tank sometimes.
Yes it’s sleek and clean looking but the power wire does not fit inside the groove for the power cable. Aqua Illumination, you have really let people down on this one. Premium price with false advertisement!!! Don’t waste your money. Also BRS, if y’all are gonna sell this. Then don’t have it labeled for the hydra 32.
I was hesitant on buying this mount due to some bad reviews so I bought 1 to see how it is. It is a little pricey but it hides the wires and the adjustability of it is perfect. It looks really sleek on my rimless tank. The assembly was very easy, I had no issues what so ever. I am definitely going to be buying more for my other lights. The only negative thing I have to say about it is the price. Quality, assembly and look, are all perfect!
I purchased 2 of these arms. In the beginning I had some issues because one of the screws striped but you have to be VERY careful not stripping the screws. I've had these mounting arms for my AI Hydra's for 1.5 years now and they work great. My lights are 11" off the water surface. These are on my Waterbox 105.3 Frag system. Great mounts!
Like everyone else has said, pretty sad this is what AI sells along side with there 600$ lights. Not meant for the new lights, screws strip out, 3 different Allen key sizes and they give you 1 Allen key of the wrong size. I managed to force my wires into the rail for a clean look. I would not recommend this. buy a 20$ tv wall mount at Walmart to save money and have a better holder.
Why would you sell a product that claims to be able to incorporate wire management, that leaves 5-6 feet of wire just hanging in the air. Yes they do provide wire guide clips (3), but this does not provide the neat look of wires hidden in the rail.
I usually don't give much credence to negative online reviews - buncha whiners. But in this case, they are all 100% correct. Bad implementation. - Included allen wrench wrong size for some screws (thus they strip) - Designed for the prior generation of lights, retrofitted for the 32 and 64 with crappy cable holders rather than running power thru the frame. - Instructions don't address newer generation of lights anywhere (packed instructions, youtube, etc) - Screws strip (because of thread lock and wrong size allen wrench) - I have mine set at max height (~12 inches) per latest BRS spec, and the mounts get "tippy". Lights are pointing backwards a little. - Mounts are actually in the water, seems totally sketchy.
First off I bought this mounting kit from lfs same price as brs. Sorry guys I didn’t know u had this mounting kit. Most reviews are spot on tho. Poor Machine screws, poor video demos, the allen key provided stripped two of the screws without even over tightening. The videos provide by the manufacturer are not for the 32. Beware of putting the smaller cord in the channel cuz it attaches to the battery pack and now you have 5+ feet off dangling cord. The kit does provide you with plastic cord anchors that attach to the outside channel which looks decent but overall terrible experience with this mount. I would recommend this light mount tho as long as you don’t follow the smaller cord placement thru the middle channel demo in the video. I tried to take it apart to take the smaller cord out of the middle channel but yet again another screw stripped! It’s a nice looking mount but believe when I say this, follow the video step by step but do not, I repeat do not put the smaller cord thru the middle channel you will definitely regret it. Other than that, yes it’s a beautiful mount. I would purchase again and install without follow the smaller cord directions through the middle channel but now I can’t get the light off the mount as 3 out of 4 screws stripped :( pretty disappointed here.
There’s not much that has not been said about the problems with this mount. I’ll give the abbreviated version of my own experience: - Purchased amount for the Hydra 64 - The instructions that come with the mount do not apply to the Hydra 64. (See the problems regarding the diameter of the wire and the width of the wire channel to start’” -The videos for installation online do not apply to the Hydra 64 - The tools provided do not work for all of the adjustable/tension screws. - I’ve put a lot of IKEA together in my day… Never have I been as frustrated as trying to put this thing together
A little disappointed to see that for the new lights, (hydra32) the wire is not able to be tucked into the aluminum extrusion, because it is too wide. they do provide some plastic clips to hold the wire, but this isn't as clean as all the images show. I will note one of the reviews mentions that the screws cant be tightened, that is because the screws that attach the light to the mount are a slightly diffent size hex. (a little larger, so when you torque it, it will strip out the hex) I'm not sure why there are 2 different hex keys required, but it definitely does not ship with 2. The included hex is fine with the corner bracket, and the tank mount clamp screws, but not for the light mount screws. I think AI definitely needs to address these (small) problems, because when a buyer spends this much money on a couple of aluminum extrusions, they expect all the details to be considered, and this product doesn't feel that way. I understand that making a product to work in every possible configuration of tank is an incredible challenge, but these concerns deal with how it works with the product it is designed to hold.
I’m really surprised by all the negative reviews. I have 3 of these (2 I bought used). I have had no problem installing and adjusting as needed, no issues with stripped screws. Also it should be noted that all of the reviews before the summer of 2019 had the old tank mount. The new mount as pictured is a huge improvement. I did put mine on a rimless tank, so there may be some challenges on a rimmed tank
I am not sure why there is so much hate for this mount. For those of you that are stripping the allen holes you are being way to heavy-handed. Everything just needs to be snug. Also if you turn the Allen wrench and use the short end you can get by with 4" of clearance between the mount and wall. Is it over priced? Probably but what isn't in this hobby? I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I do think it should come in at a $50-$60 price point but that's just an oppinon. Also I think the two screws on the clamps should be thumb screws instead of allen heads. That would make it much easier and less room would be required. The mount is nice and clean looking and much better than the hanging setup I was using. Sure I had to use a piece of acrylic as a shim because there is a bit of a rim on the back of the JBJ tank. Not a big deal as I had some laying around.
I would NOT recommend this bracket. For 75 DOLLARS, THIS COMPANY SCREWS YOU! I am so upset i spent and hour attempting to put this product together, and where it mattered the most, it failed miserably. It took this long because I had to PRY the lugnut off the screw that attaches the fixture to the tank. in the process, the screw head stripped. Why would this expensive piece come with soooo much cheap, poor quality material? Now, not only does it sit poorly on the aquarium now, but I am so disappointed in this product I am debating on return the nearly $400 light.
First of I'd like to say the the Black Aluminum is exceptional. It is as strong as it is beautiful. However, the main point of any light mount should be to hold the light securely. The angle bracket is a nice idea, however this $400 light bracket used small and cheap Allen wrench screws. Just about when you get enough torque to hold the bracket with light steady you strip the Allen wrench screw heads. Once and you're done. Can't get enough torque to make the whole rig tight. If AI wants to keep the Allen Screws put bigger heads on them so you can use real Allen Wrenches that don't strip the head. Beefier heads would still look nice and allow you to tighten to a working point. As it stands now I need to go to the local big box store and figure out how to make this solid. Too much money to be having to do this. The Hydra bracket is another issue. I need to mount my arm on the side of the tank as I don't have back clearance. Once you get the Hydra light on the bracket there is no way to tighten down the screw once it loosens from turning horizontal to the front of the tank. I am way at the end of the horizontal bar to center the light over the tank. I would recommend getting rid of the Allen Screws altogether and using decorative flat head screws with larger heads. Again, tightness of the joint requires torque and you don't get it with cheap screws. I was hoping for more as I love the Hydra 26 itself.
Yea, my Hydra HD Twenty Six's lean a tad bit but that bad at all. in my opinion, its the best single arm kit or any other kit that AI makes to install your AI's.. I have 3 Hydra Twenty Six HD LED's and it's wat better look then installing them across the tank with there Multi-Light Mount Kit. Spec on my tank is 60'' x 24'' x 24. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
There are so many flaws with this mount I can't believe AI sent this product to market; it almost seems like a prototype. First off, you will need AT LEAST 4-5" of clearance between your tank and the wall in order to tighten the set screws that holds the bracket to the tank. In my case, I only had 3.5" of clearance and had to add a 1/2" piece of acrylic on the inside of the tank to increase this clearance to 4". Now, I BARELY had enough room to get the allen key between the wall and the head of the screw. Simply making the head of the screw larger or making it like a wing-nut would have made a huge difference as you simply cannot tighten it by hand with such a small head. Secondly, the screws that clamp the brackets to the side of the vertical aluminum extrusion are about 1/16" of an inch too long. This makes the screw bottom out into the aluminum and results in a loose bracket. Not desirable when trying to prevent the light from sagging. Thirdly, the weight distribution is terrible. With the hydra weighing around 3.5 lbs hanging 13" over the tank, the clamps are placing around 45 in-lbs of torque on the rim of the tank. This torque is applied to two very small point-loads instead of evenly distributing the load by using a larger plastic shim. If you look at the tank clamps on the Kessil gooseneck mounts, you'll see what I'm talking about. Lastly, the screw that attaches the Hydra bracket to the horizontal arm is covered in thread lock. Once I tightened it down, the head stripped before the thread lock gave way. Overall, I am not pleased. I made it work but it shouldn't be this difficult when AI could have made some minor improvements that would have made a huge difference in the usability of their product.
Starting off, this is a great product but has some major design flaws. With the major problem being the mounting option. Yes it fits and yes it holds in place, but It doesn't want to sit up straight and only has the 26HD attached. Mounting - Expect to have your tank a minimum of 2.5" from the wall. I had to mount the stand on the side of a rimless 50gal cube since wall space did not allow (2"). A rim tank would require more space and could possibly reach 4" gap. More on the mounting hardware, since the mount is now on the side and not in the weir, the lower tips of the "fingers" are in the water. Is this even ok, they feel like aluminum but could also be a dense plastic?? I'm currently debating if this is acceptable for my standards, current standing, barely. A small screw on the side mounts the bracket to the rail. Clever slide support and flipping the mounting screw for ambidexterous mounting. The screw on one side seems to bottom out in the rail and doesn't pull the bracket into the stand and remains somewhat loose/wobbly. With the screw bottom and the nut in the rail being the new mounting point, the bracket stays in place, however, wobbles on the screw. Rail - Beautifully finished extruded aluminum is always a nice clean look and rarely has any problems. Corner - A bracket is included that helps achieve the 90deg angle... helps... This is no regular bracket, it has odd angles at which you need to tighten small screws, that are also potentially bottoming out, only after you find out the allen wrench provided doesn't fit these screws perfectly (rounded one screw to figure this one out) the leveling system is nice, but with all the slop in machining (hinges mostly) the light can also wobble a little if bumped (shock absorption?). Light Mount - The money shines here. A billet aluminum, CNC cut, anodized black beauty to rest atop your small fortune. Although the brackets are super nice, another major design flaw. I shouldn't say design flaw, but more preventative damage, why not felt or small plastic barrier to separate the light from the bracket. I'm no math genius but I know the AI is in the top most expensive lights, why not protect it or even protect the bracket. It did come with a nylon washer for the rail to light bracket section. Not too sure on this one.. I wouldn't recommend this product and don't even know if I'm willing to keep this setup.
So does the RMS arm work without extra help? YES. Is this the RMS arm? NO. You need to add shims or a plastic block inside the tank if you have a tank rim. The ecotech arm has it built in. The arm works well if you have more than 3 brain cells to rub together.
It is true that this mount kit is perfect for rimless tanks and will work on other tanks without some modification. My tanks is not rimless and the brace will not work to hold the weight of the HD52's mounted to each kit. I added a shim, I made from some scape acylic nad added a couple of frag bases between the acrylic shim and the mount clamp. This supports the weight effectively and it is a nice mount and would work for a large variety of tank sizes. I give it four sars, I would give it five stars if the required sims where premade and provided with the kit (much like is done with as EcoTech's Vortech pumps). This would be easy for Aqua-illuminations to add to each kit and would help them stand out as a top notch aquarium equipment provider.
You can use this bracket with a black rim tank you need to add shims to the bracket. The other guy that posted wasn't using his thinking cap and returned the product. That being said its not a perfect product but it is ten time better looking than the rails and legs.
I purchased this from another retailer. Would have ordered it from BRS, but it was out of stock. I just wanted to share with folks, this will NOT work if you have a standard braced 'black rim' aquarium. I emailed AI for a solution 6 days ago and have heard nothing back so I returned the items. I guess they think everyone has a rimless tank these days. I'm not a fan and my tank is 4 years old. No intentions of getting a new tank. I ended up going with 2 EXT rails, with 12" extensions (which seems so user-unfriendly that you have to buy separate parts but I guess that's so folks can get the length they need. Why not make it adjustable?). And even then, I had to jury-rig the lights because they are made to attach to the rails one way, with the light sitting perpendicular to the tank as opposed to parallel. Again, they could have made it modular so you can turn the light with the EXT system. Must have been an afterthought. SO, I was trying to make it look professional buying the AI mount, but still had to DIY to get it to work. Otherwise, they are very well made. Very sturdy. Nice finish on the metal. But designed well IMO.
