Ordered two of these for my 310. When I received them and attempted to set them up the controllers would read 98 deg even if placed in cold water. BRS attempted to help me figure the issue out but unfortunately we were unsuccessful. BRS reached out to ink bird for me over a week ago asking for guidance and assistance. They have still not responded going on day 8. Cannot speak to the quality of the heating elements as I have not gotten to use them yet.
I added a second 600w BRS heater to the system and my tank's temperature is very stable. The Inkbird app is pretty basic but also easy enough to use. I did find that their temperature probe read a little bit colder than my other temp probes. You can set an offset on the app if it bothers you but I just adjusted the controller temps down as I use other apps for monitoring temp.
We've used these exclusively on all our tanks since BRS introduced it and have never had an issue, time notwithstanding. They do need to be replaced every two years, however. We had one fail on a cool night, but the alarm sounded and we caught it in time. Can't expect these things to last indefinitely. I'm writing this because we just bought a 600w to replace the one we've had on our mixed reef for the last two years. What we did not know and you need to, is that you MUST download the new Inkbird app for the unit to function. Failure to do so results in a 'BLE' error. Worked great after that. This is the only heater I trust to heat our $20k investment.
1st one lasted 6 months and crashed my whole tank. 2nd one lasted less than 3 months!!! WiFi must be 2.4ghz I switched to 5g and lost wifi capabilities. I since figured out a work around but it was difficult. The big issue is the heating elements are absolute garbage. BRS you can do better. I will add customer service getting a replacement was a breeze but I’m not sure I want another one now.
Had two of these fail within one year. BRS did right and sent me two replacements. One fail in two months, lets see how long will the second one last. I would definitely NOT recommend it.
I have two 600w of these heaters for the past year on my 275g frag tank and they have held my temperature range I have set very well thus far.
I had a 200 W that failed within 6 months. It was replaced but the replacement heater is junk as well. Ended up putting some old heaters on with the heater controller I have and no issues. From something that’s made in Germany and supposed to be reliable, well, not so much. Look for another titanium heater.
I purchased this setup when I built my tank about a year ago. My first heater failed within six months and the replacement has just failed.... Tank is 185 gal. planted Discus setup with Trigger Systems Sump Temp is kept at a constant 85f. Waiting on BRS customer service to respond to warranty claim. Will update but for now I would say pass on this heater set up.
