Purchased a 300W, installed it and noticed stinging on my fingers when the heater was on. Immediately took it out of my tank, garbage right out of the bag.
A more elaborate design, bundle and usage terms should include in the package. First the bundle should include a second Wifi temperature probe for display tank. Can be a totally different brand instead of Ink Bird. This redundancy is utmost important as you don't want thousands of dollars worth of livestock hinged on the single point of failure (controller). Second, I found out most early than normal "failure" of the element is because the element is set up to run in an extensive period (almost non-stop). This contribute to early than normal failure. Also placing the heat element right after the turbulent stream of outflow may damage the unit (electric hazard). Third, the placement of the temperature probe should be on display tank, (many customer I helped put the probe next to the heat element). Lastly, both probe and element need to be inspected and cleaned or wiped once a month. Installing them properly will warrant a good long life of the equipment. I had my German made elements and an Ranco controller for over 5 years, along with a cheap Wifi temperature probe in display tank as manual failsafe. The failsafe once set an alarm two years ago when I was at work, I remotely shutdown the power supply to Ranco. Came home the temperature in the display tank was fine at 76, replaced the faulty element. That failsafe saved over $4000 worth of liverocks, fish and corals.
Heater started dumping 120V into the system, killed all my tangs. Will never buy again. So angry.
I love this bundle deal the heater works perfect and i have had no issues, except inkbird sometimes goes offline from the wifi but it still works while offline.
I recently purchased the Inkbird and heater set as a backup as my current heater is little over a year old. When I got the unit, I set it up and then did a test and noticed that one probe never changed its temperature. According to the document they actually state that this is a hardware malfunction and to contact support. Inkbird support was very nice, asked for pictures and then was sending a replacement. Here is where it because a problem, the replacement is coming from China with no estimate delivery date. Luckily this was a backup and I may be looking for a different controller. Just wanted to make sure you was aware and maybe have a backup to your backup if you bought one of these controllers.
Bought this bundle and added another 300W titanium heater so I can have 2 heater being controlled by inkbird. Here is the summary of my review for this product. -The size of these heater are perfect for my Red Sea sump. I've been struggling to find a 300W heater with the perfect size to fit in my sump until I found these. -The 3 year warranty can't be beat -I have noticed a huge savings in my electric bill. I'm no expert but my temperature is more stable than other heating products. The only cons is that I have been hearing that they fail after 6 months. but so far I have these at 4 months and they have been go to me. BRS have good customer service which is a plus. If all else fail I know they will back their product. Thanks!
I bought this package around 6 months ago and thought it was the coolest thing ever (my first attempt at a mid level reef tank electonicly). It was a bit difficult to get set up but I think that was on my part. I found out I have ich in my 130 reef tank yesterday after work and rushed to the fish store to pick up something to fix it. Naturally as I have always done I tried to turn up the heat to make it more difficult for the parasites. When I turned if up by only .5 of a degree Fahrenheit and come back a few hours later to an alarm E4. The probes are reading more than 5 degrees apart and the tanks temperature has dropped because it shut off the heating element. Glad it did but not so great to have temperature swings with ich in the tank. Spend the extra money on something that will last and not mess up your tanks temp eventually. The stainless steel heater is great but not the controller.
It was a little tricky to get the InkBird to work with my wireless. Other than that, it was easy to calibrate and program the high & low settings. Really happy with this product so far!
I've had mine since they first came out and I'm very happy with it. I would never use a heater controller without saftey measures and backups and this is an important part of that redundancy.
I’ve had the titanium heater for six months I’ve had the Wi-Fi inkbird for beyond that, about a year. Purchased it somewhere else at the time because Brs did not sell them. I couldn’t be happier with the control. It alerted me multiple times of issues with older Heaters that weren’t keeping up. Since I switched the titanium heater I actually use less watts to heat my tank it’s a much hotter heater than your average. And I have no complaints with that either as of now.
Bought two of these, a 300w and a 200w, last month (January '21). Only one still works. The 300w controller took a dump today and kept the heating element on while going crazy with readings and alarms. Would not accept reprogramming at all... total garbage and now resides in the trash pail along with rhe other "latest and greatest heaters" that fail after a short time. The 200w is still working as of this writing. A 50% success rateat $100+ a copy is not satisfactory. Back to the tried and true Eheim trouble free, long lasting, and much less expensive heater.
