The Xport-NO3 Biological Filtration Dimpled Brick is a superior biomedia designed to drastically reduce nitrate levels in saltwater aquariums. It works by providing an enormous amount of surface area for beneficial denitrifying bacteria to colonize. This colonization process efficiently converts nitrates into harmless nitrogen gas, leading to a healthier and more stable aquatic environment. Utilizing advanced NanoIntelex Technology, this brick offers over 300% more capacity than conventional denitrification media. The unique dimpled design is a key feature, ensuring optimal water flow even when multiple bricks are stacked or a single one is placed flat on a sump floor. Each brick measures 9.0 inches by 4.5 inches by 2.625 inches, providing a substantial filtration footprint in a compact form. This filtration brick is ideal for aquarists with heavily stocked tanks, systems with minimalist aquascapes, or any reefer struggling to maintain low nitrate levels. Its versatile placement options allow it to be easily integrated into almost any sump or filtration system without tumbling, providing a powerful, passive solution for long-term nitrate control and improved water quality.

Big mess. This crumbles like crazy over time.
I guess this product does not last long. I put this block in my sump 6 months ago +-. Went to transfer it to a new tank & it just fell apart in my hand. I will stick with MarinePure or Algaebarn blocks for now on.
This thing is junk. I let it soak for 24hrs like the instructions says. It crumbled once I tried to transfer it to my tank. Pure junk. I lost $50
So I had the brick in my sump for 8 months with no change. I went to remove it and noticed it crumbling. I called BRS and was told there was a “bad batch” back when I ordered. They happily replaced my brick and even sent me a bottle of MicroBacter 7 to seed the brick. I will give it another shot.
I cut the block in half for my 40 gallon breeder, followed directions to pre-seed with microbater overnight, and watched nitrate drop from 20 ppm to 2 ppm over the course two weeks. Now I'm stable at 5 ppm after two months of daily feeds of: 1/8 tsp reef-roids, 1 - 1 1/2 cube frozen, 5-10 drops of brightwell aminos.
Within days of introduction to my tank, my purple photosynthetic sponge melted away (it had grown to 8 inches across over the process of one year). Removed the block and and the sponge eventually regrew. Pretty sure the block is responsible as the sponge has been stable and growing since that incident.
Well, despite the reviews I decided to give these a try. After being tucked away in my sump for 4 months, I began to notice what looked like beach sand on the bottom of my sump and inside my protein skimmer. The product performs well, but unfortunately it does not stand the test of time. Pieces began to fall apart and just turn to a heap of crumbs.
Has remained solid for me for 9 months. Absolutely no problems with Nitrates in a heavily stocked tank. One problem people may be having is that this brick is made for LARGE tanks. I would not recommend in tanks less than 100 gallons as the bacteria in the brick will not have enough food, Use the cubes in smaller tanks.
the brick held together for me in the last 9 months, it is still solid. i have it in a low flow area in my sump with an xport BIO brick sitting on top of it where the flow is higher. i have not seen ammonia or nitrate in 9 months. I recently added a handfull of the xport PO4 cubes, and now i cant measure any phosphates either. I assume the encrusted ferric oxide will eventually be used up, and I will need to change out the cubes, but so far so good.
I've had two in my sump for 18 months and they have not broken down at all. Nitrates are very low despite heavy feeding and a moderately high bio load. I won't run a tank again without at least one of these in my sump.
I havent had any crumbling issues with this product. It is easy to damage , i keep it out of the way in my sump so it doesnt get rubbed / hit. I feed pretty heavy and my nitrates are < 5. I dont dose any carbon. I have had this from start of my tank, so I cant say for sure if it responsible for nitrate reduction.
I've had this product for almost a year now so I can say with confidence that this product does work well. I've had no issues like others have said that it crumbles appart, I heared there was a bad batch but they are being replaced so I think I got the good one. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to reduce their nitrates in a natural and easy to use way.
I saw a reduction of nitrates in my 115 gallon , heaviky fish stocked and heaviky fed system within 1 week that seems to have leveled off after a month's use. I have been using this product for several months now. While I do have other Nitrate Reduction methods in use as well, this was the last one put into place. It reduced my nitrates from a consistent teens reading to a consistent 4.
