Waste-Away Sludge Busting Bacteria is a 100% natural bacterial additive specifically designed for saltwater aquariums. This powerful supplement works to dissolve troublesome gunk, sludge, and hidden wastes that accumulate in sand beds, live rock, filter pads, and other hard-to-reach areas of your tank. By breaking down these organic materials, it makes them available for removal through regular water changes, effectively preventing unsightly buildup and contributing to a cleaner, healthier aquatic environment. Regular use can also help reduce unwanted nitrates and phosphates.
Key features of this reef-safe solution include its formulation with natural bacteria, ensuring it is 100% safe for all reef inhabitants. It is also known to increase your tank's ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential) and boost the production efficiency of your protein skimmer, further aiding in waste export. This product contains no phosphates, helps to unclog and clean sand and gravel beds, and can contribute to the reduction of slime algae and cyanobacteria. For best results, dose 10mL per 10 gallons weekly, turning off UV lights and protein skimmers for 48 hours after application.
This product is best suited for saltwater reef aquarium hobbyists seeking a natural and effective method to combat detritus and organic waste buildup. It is ideal for those looking to maintain pristine water quality, reduce nutrient levels, and improve the overall cleanliness and clarity of their tank without resorting to harsh chemicals. It's an excellent choice for anyone experiencing issues with sludge accumulation or looking to enhance their existing maintenance routine with a powerful, biologically-driven solution.

This is a fantastic product, so I wanted to give a review as I feel that there has been a misrepresentation here. This is a very “potent” Heterotrophic bacteria. It is imperative to go slow, especially if the system has never seen it before. The bottle says 1/2 dose initially. If you want to be totally safe with “SPS or Acropora” specifically…dose 1/8 the dose. Go slow and understand this product before you ramp up. IMO, I’d never dose more than 1/4 the full dose in one day. It’s better to dose smaller more frequent doses than larger less frequent doses. If you go slow and use caution you will not have issues.
It can be a strong bacteria. I only use 1 cap on my 100g when needed. Test your water before dosing to make sure your Phosphates and Nitrates are NOT zero before dosing.
have been using waste away for two months and have noticed gunk around my rocks and power heads no longer there so far so good thinking of using re fresh also
The product itself works, but be aware that even a slight overdose will wipe out your entire tank
Added this to battle some brown gunk in my tank. By the 2nd dose, all of my SPS were dead/almost dead. Did a large water change hoping to save them and that's a TBD. Parameters are within reason, and Waste Away was the only thing added. While I'm sure it works, I'm certain this was the reason my SPS took a massive hit. Hoping that since I've since stopped using it, they will recover. As they say, if the coral has a polyp, it ain't dead.
I dose my tank weekly with Waste Away. I've tried other sludge-busting solutions, but nothing works as well. It's pricey and may not be cost effective for a large tank, but for a small or medium system, you can't go wrong.
