The Reef Octopus SRO 5000EXT External Protein Skimmer is a high-performance recirculating unit designed to efficiently remove organic waste from saltwater aquariums up to 600 gallons. This robust skimmer plays a crucial role in maintaining pristine water quality by extracting dissolved organics before they can break down and pollute the system, ensuring a healthier environment for all inhabitants. Its external design allows for flexible placement outside the sump, making it suitable for various setups. Key features of the SRO 5000EXT include a Bubble Diffusing Chamber and Hybrid Cone Body, which work together to naturally stabilize foam production, increasing contact time for organics and reducing turbulence in the neck area. It boasts an oversized air silencer for quiet operation, a large collection cup with a flow directional guide, drain, and unit venting, and precision control via an easy-to-turn output flow valve. Powering this unit is the efficient Reef Octopus Bubble Blaster HY-5000s pinwheel pump, drawing 45 watts, 2,100 lph of air, and 1,800 lph of water. The skimmer has a 10-inch body, 18.7 x 15-inch footprint, 27-inch total height, and requires a separate feed pump with a suggested rate of 800-1100 GPH. This protein skimmer is an ideal choice for serious reef keepers with large aquarium systems, particularly those ranging up to 600 gallons, who demand superior filtration and reliability. Its external configuration provides ease of maintenance and space efficiency around the sump, while the powerful Bubble Blaster pump ensures maximum organic extraction with low energy consumption. For aquarists prioritizing quiet operation, precise control, and a consistently clean aquatic environment, the SRO 5000EXT delivers exceptional value and performance.
