I was looking for a skimmer, in-tank or HOB, for my 36-gallon mixed reef tank. It had to be visually unobtrusive, as aesthetics mean everything to me. The 300 delivers with great Italian design. Though in-tank, you can barely notice it against my black background. The cup barely protrudes above the edge of my tank lid, and half of that is hidden behind my strip-style LED tank lighting. I am very pleased with the minimal visual impact. Functionality? This unit performs well. Others have complained about fiddling with it to adjust for water level fluctuations. Sicce recommends ATO, and I second that. I don't have ATO but maintain strict water level (salinity!) control manually, and don't have any issues. And the unit uses a renowned Sicce pump (internal & included, nothing else to buy). It is Sicce quiet! Plus, this is affordable. Great for a smaller, low-budget build such as mine. Highly recommended!
I'm constantly touching this skimmer. Because of it's low profile it's my indicator if my water runs low becuase it gets load and you hear the gargle from the water. So i'm always adjusting it slightly to get below the water level. Also if my water is too high it fills up insanly fast to the point it doesn't make sense why it's full so quickly. Even in some instances I have adjusted it straight to the line and still have issues. Lastly takes up to much space in my nano. Makes it hard to get a screen/lid. So for those reasons i'm looking for a different HOB skimmer. After 3 months i'm good i want something better that can really put in work on my 35gal nano. For something under 35 i would recommend. However know it's going to take up space. Great magnet that for sure is solid. And it's easy to clean. Just a lot when I'm doing it often because of how quick it fills up at times. Not consistent.
this is not a good skimmer. Sweet spot for skim makes a gurgling sound. When is dose skim it is wet with very mild turbidity and a hint of yellow. Im going back to the tunze skimmer 9004 DC. Well worth the extra hundred dollars.
Had a Tunze Comline that was a nightmare to get running right so I upgraded to this one. I like this design so much better! Super strong and high quality mounting magnet and simple to take apart and clean.
