The Salifert Silicate Test is an essential tool for maintaining optimal water quality in your saltwater reef aquarium. This highly sensitive and accurate test kit allows aquarists to precisely measure silicate levels, a common contaminant often found in tap water or as a byproduct of improperly functioning reverse osmosis and deionization (RO/DI) units. Elevated silicate concentrations are a primary cause of undesirable diatom blooms and can also interfere with the bioavailability of crucial trace elements like vanadium and molybdenum, impacting coral health and overall reef stability.

Designed for precision, the Salifert Silicate Test provides approximately 60 individual tests, offering long-term value and consistent monitoring capabilities. It boasts a broad detection range of 0.03 to 30 ppm (parts per million) as SiO2, enabling aquarists to identify even minute traces of silicate or monitor significant levels effectively. The kit's accuracy ensures reliable results, empowering users to take timely corrective actions to safeguard their delicate reef ecosystems.

This test kit is indispensable for any serious reef keeper, particularly those who rely on tap water or wish to verify the efficiency of their water purification systems. By regularly testing for silicate, aquarists can proactively prevent unsightly diatom outbreaks and ensure that essential trace elements remain available for their corals and invertebrates. Should silicate levels be high, effective reduction can be achieved using specialized filter media such as granular Phosphate-Killer or liquid Phosphate-Eliminator, both of which also have a strong affinity for silicate removal.
