Almost threw it across the room out of frustration during assembly. The plastic slide for the light does NOT cleanly slide into the track. It has to be forced, which resulted in me cutting my finger on the rail which has sharp edges. Also concerned the slide would crack. I'm happy with the end product, its level and sturdy, however, the slide should be redesigned.
It does the job well although definitely seems pricey for what it is. Advantage is that the "riser" part that connects to the tank appears to be the same as the side tank mounts, meaning to go from 2 to 3 or more lights you can reuse 2 of these and just get the longer rail and plastic mount that screw to the light. Definitely a plus for my 72 inch primarily fish tank that I'm adding to Response to comments from other reviews *Leans down slightly- yes, although appears well secured and angles light slightly towards back of the tank which is preferred in my setup *Hard to get mount on - it is very difficult if you try sliding the plastic component onto the square part of the rail, but slides on fairly easily from the curved side. *Bright chrome screw against all black- mine came with a black rubber piece to cover the screw *Light spillover- I had a ton even with just 2 of these on a 72"x26" as mounting height seems high for such a wide coverage angle from the lights. I had to spend an extra $25 per light on 3D printed shades so I could use my office with these lights on
I came close to throwing this arm across the room! It looks simple enough, but a pain to put together. Instructions are vague. I thought the light just rested on the top of the slider (instructions do not indicate otherwise), but apparently you slide them into a slot on the arm. Well, the fit is so tight, the light slides in about halfway and gets stuck! I tried turning the light to slide it in on all 4 sides and it just won't go! Very frustrating. My last resort is to just rest them on the top like I originally thought was correct, but it is not level and leans to one side! For the money I paid for these, I expected a lot more!
I was hesistant in picking this mount up from reading the prior reviews, but I decied to take the leap. As some background, I purchassed two mounts and they both went on an 100 IM INT. Like some previous reviews mentioned, these mounts WILL not position the lights horizontal. There is a tip or lean towards the back of the tank, which is unsiglthy and doesn't work well for light distribution in the tank. Good news! There is a very easy fix to this and the parts for the fix come with the mounts. The mounts come with an adhesive pad that is supposed to go on the back clamp (i.e., the fixed clamp that goes on the outside of the tank). Rather than putting the pad on back clamp, cut it in half length-wise, and attach it to the front clamp towards the bottom. This will cause the front clamp to align properly in the slot that it slides and will keep the upper arm and lights horizontal. PS: Becareful handling the adjustable slides because they have very sharp edges. I cut the palm of my hand when attaching the longer slide to the arm.
works works want on the tank in less then minutes. first time use it worked great.
I was worried about buying this mount with the not so good reviews. Not sure if this is an updated design, but I had no issues assembling them and they look fantastic. I have them on my waterbox 180.5, I have 3 and all mounts are level and don’t sag like some people said. I gave it a 4 out of 5 only because of the price. They are pricey for what it is.
Unfortunately, if you want a tank mount for your Radion XR15, this is your only option. The design flawed: •it sags and there's no way to adjust for this •there's no consideration for the cord at all - not clips, a channel or anything. It could have been hidden. •the lateral adjustment is a little tedious, and there's no vertical adjustment •the mount is black, but the nut that holds the horizontal arm to the vertical is shiny, chrome, and sticks out like a sore thumb. The quality is poor: • the edges of the metal were left unfinished before painting •the plastic bracket that holds the light itself feels cheap and is shiny, where the rest of the mount is matte. •though packaged well, there were scratches and blemishes all over the mount so it looks like it was handled carelessly during production. To be honest, i feel fairly insulted when this shoddy product was delivered to me after the premium that I paid.
A bit too bulky and heavy for my liking. Just too much to add to a rimless tank in my opinion. The new radions are heavy, but this mount still seems too much
I have a Cade Reef 1200 S2 Aquarium. The tank is 48"X24"X24". The aquarium has a fresh water auto top off on the back that is about 4" wide. The light arms have to be mounted to the back of the auto top off tank. The arms that come with the XR15 RMS mounting brackets are too short to reach the center of the tank. I called Eco Tech Marine and they said there is nothing they can do. Even though they have a longer arm available on the XR30 Mounting Kit they will not sell me any. There response was basically too bad.
So this is a nice professional-looking mount. I had been hanging my g5 from wires off an unused Current mount. Besides being too expensive, the major flaw with this mount is its fixed height. Mine is mounted over a Nuvo 14 so a goid portion of the light floods the room. Yeah, overkill for such a small tank, but I'd be much happier if i could lower by 2 inches. The other choice is to place my Nuvo 10 next to the 14 and share the light, but that defeats the purpose of having separate tanks in different locations.
Super solid mount, good improvements over the last model, and it's at the perfect BRS recommended height already!
