This product is so weak and flimsy I went out of my way to get on here and leave this review. it wobbles in the mounting bracket, which is a very uneasy feeling knowing you have an electrical light hanging over a large body of water in your house, and is only held in by a pin you push into the mounting bracket. The light droops down no matter how tight you fasten the screw so your light is pitched down 15 degrees instead of being level. When fully extended is feels as though this thing could snap in half and fall into the tank at any second. I ended up buying the Red Sea universal mount for the LED 90 (the 50/60 fit it) and couldn't be happier. It has wildly better construction, feels rock solid, and the light sits perfectly level when the screw is tightened. Im just mad that im invested 150$ in mounting arms and want to save you the time and money writing this review and say just spend the extra 30 bucks for the LED90 arm. The construction is night and day and you won't have your breath held every second waiting for your light to collapse into the tank.
This mount doesn't support a ReefLed 60 at the correct angle when used on a Max Nano G2 XL. The light sags below the horizontal so the front of the tank isn't properly illuminated. This wasn't a problem with theRedSea arm that came with the tank and the ReefLed50. It was a different design. Even worse, the arm snapped in two with very little force applied when trying to adjust it. (It's a crappy pot-metal casting)
No issues with sagging (note: lights are fully retracted), easy to put together, mount is not inside the tank, super slim.
Not sure why these reviews are so harsh - I have had mine since November, and I haven't had any issues at all. Holds tight, stays put - I was careful when I mounted it, but I didn't break anything. I did drop my light and the mount (my fault) and everything is still in good shape.
I only purchased this because of the black sale price and because I was saving money to buy the light and the bracket. I assembled the bracket and put the light on my tank and noticed the light wasn't level. I tried messing with the screws on the back of the aquarium and at the back of the light but I could not get it the way wanted. So I figured since the bracket was metal I would just bend it slightly. Bad idea it snapped. So now I am out the $32.00 I spent for this price of crap bracket. Spend the money and get the bracket for the LED 90. It has better features plus the auto shut off maintenance option is nice. Yeah I am pissed off too cause of my mistake and their poor choice in manufacturing.
ReefLED 50 Universal Mounting Arm - Red Sea is a Terrible mount.
I love Red Sea products, but this arm is terrible. It leans, can't be adjusted, has a plastic base, and the 'metal' snapped when I was installing it!
Solid metal bar to hold the light in place but everything else is plastic, the mount has the light tilted on an angle that will shine on top the overflow and back wall. Also the metal holders for the wires that are etched out on the metal pole ended up piercing through my lights wire! Terrible mount!
Red Sea needs to come out with a design where the light can go in and out. It’s mounted on my 13.5 g right now and it is off center but it will work.
