This test kit is my 2nd most used. Very easy to read chart and very accurate. I use nopox and need to know exactly how much nopox i need dosed without making all my readings 0 and starving corals. this test takes you to a new lvl of keeping happy corals and a happy tank very fast results as well
I use this test kit for the first time and really like it comparing to my previous brand. The color wheel helps getting accurate results rather than guessing as I used to do with my previous kit. Also, I’m happy with the purchases from BRS. Those gentlemen in the store are very helpful and do best customer service. I highly recommend.
These test kits are reading zero, which is in line with my salifert kits and the LFS's Hannah instruments. I used the old redsea phosphate kit a lot when i worked at the LFS, it seems like redsea changed their phosphate reagents that were consistently reading 0.08 a while back. I am fully satisfied with everything.
Truly easy to use and instructions are great. Box means nothing will ever break, in theory. I opened mine and found that one or more of the bottles had leaked their caustic substances. the plastic held up luckily so I spent the first ten minutes double checking all the bottles and cleaning the mini hazmat spill. Nitrate is easy to read but for me the Phosphate is a PITA especially the low range as they all are maybe a fraction of a shade off from one another. It is a fun game to do with the kids of what color is this closest to.
I like the test kit. It would be better if the Nitrate range went a little bit higher.
The bottles are a TIGHT fit in the color wheel device, but it was still fairly easy to use without the vial installed the whole way. This test kit is nice because it allows for dilution of the sample for higher nitrate values. The phophate reagents are very viscous, so be careful not to shake them or you will get lots of bubbles, making it hard to know that your drop sizes are the right size.
I was using API kits prior and they are hard for me to tell the color difference especially in the Nitrate test. I started dosing NO3PO4-X and needed something more accurate. This is it. Works as designed and I appreciate the color wheel rather then trying to hold up against a chart.
A great alternative to expensive reactors.
I purchased this test kit to keep track of the phosphate and nitrate levels. I was using another brand and wanted to compare test results. Overall, the results are the same with both brands. Red sea brand does measure in more accurate increments. Directions are fairly easy to follow. The dollar value for the combo kit is much better than purchasing separately.
I have been using this for about two weeks as I am cycling my tank. It can be used in a high range and low range with RO water for dilution. I find it to be very helpful. Comes in a nice plastic storage case that holds everything very well. I have had similar ones in the past and they were like a puzzle trying to get things back together.
The accuracy and repeatability are second to none except for a true lab test. These two tests take a few minutes to do but the time is absolutely well worth it and the kit is a true value compared to the others. It is easy to confidently determine your aquariums nitrate and phosphate levels so you can stay the course or make changes to improve.
Red sea has thought of everything for this test. Results are very easy to discern and the tests are easy to carry out -no long waiting time before adding the next reagent. The only complaint I have is the Nitrate test is a very low range - no more than 0.85 ppm or you're out of range. So a dilution may be necessary.
I used the Salifert test kits, and while they were good to use, I found that it was kind of a pain to setup and take down. Also reading the paper that was not laminated was a pain after about the 20th test and the paper started to rip. This test was easy, laminated, it came in a nice case. The color wheel was pretty cool. Though I do have to admit, so far my colors for the nitrate kit never seem to match the wheel. It always is in between I guess.
I had previously bought the reef test kit by red sea for Cal/Alk/Mag and was very impressed with the quality and value of the kit. This kit meets that same standard and makes reading results for Phosphate and Nitrate levels relatively easy and repeatable.
I've ordered this kit because i have an algea problem and trying to get to the root cause. my api test kit told me i had 0 phosphate and 20 nitrates. I decided to get this kit to cross reference and get a 2nd 'opinion'. The phosphate tests showed i had .16 and nitrates in the high range. after using phosphate reducers i was able to drop it to a nice 0.02. I test every other day and i do see the fluctuations of phosphate. I do notice now, that many are complaining about the phosphate (only) test kit is always show 0.08 or something, but in my case i saw the fluctuations, and especially my RO water showing 0ppm my complaint is with the nitrate test. its always show up purple (not pink like on the disk). I've emailed Red Sea and sent them pictures and they replied with "the reason it's purple is because it's in between 2 results". It always seems to be purple, i thought maybe it was a bad set of reagents or wrong color wheel but Red Sea claimed my results were 'accurately' in between 2 results in the 'high range' hence the purple result (being above 4ppm). Even after water changes and nitrate reduction treatments i had the same results. So i went and purchased a salifert nitrate test and the results came back to being 0.25ppm! i was shocked that red sea was showing me a high range of 4ppm+ and yet another test kit was at 0.25. I used API and it showed a "0" result. Even though the kits are very well contructed (plastic, neat instructions, quality of the kit in general), i cannot recommend until they fix their reagent problems. In my case the phosphate tests worked well, but a lot of other people saying they get the same test results. However, i have that problem with the nitrate tests. even thought i paid good money for this, im left with a unreliable Nitrate results and a somewhat ok phosphate test kit....
After working with the kits that have a single vile and a color chart, the color wheel makes this test kit stand head and shoulders above the rest.
Best kit I have used to date for nitrate testing.
The colors match up much better on the Red Sea kit compared to other tests I have used. I can tell exactly what my results are instead of guessing between colors.
My tank isn't cool enough to have a low range Nitrate levels, but I have used this on a friend's tank that does and it seems accurate. The phosphate test on the other hand is questionable with accuracy, but hey, this is a hobby grade test kit after all. I trust my Hanna meter just a little bit more.
Definitely one of best tests available. Don't even bother with API tests, get this one and be done with it. Much, much better results using these tests.
I went with this test after watching the side by side comparison from BRSTV. I'm happy I did and will be sticking with these tests for a long time.
Will not read Phosphate below 0.08!! Not useful for reef tanks. There are a lot of threads on Reef Central that will back that up. I can't say how much pain I've been through over this.
This test kit is easy to do, takes a little longer but very easy to read and complete the test.
The kit arrived with a broken vial, and customer service offered to replace it, but I am still waiting for the replacement.
This is a nicely packaged test kit. I purchased these as a comparison test kit for my Elos and I was looking for something a little different with regards to the color comparison aspects of the test. The tests are easily comparable with regards to steps. The color wheel is nice and provides a holder to hold the vials. The only complaint I have is my colors never seem to match. Leaving you somewhat guessing, is it above this color or below this color, or this one? Even watching the PO4 video's posted by Red Sea on how to perform the test ended up in a between color. Which for someone that's a little OCD'ish on my params leaves me wondering. Overall though a good solid built kit.
I purchased the Red Sea Algae Control Multi Test Kit to replace my Salifert test kits. Overall, I am very pleased with these new kits. The color wheels make it very easy to get accurate readings. And only needing to purchase refills makes this line of test kits more economical.
I love these Red Sea Test kits. They are very well made. They were put together knowing our fingers would get wet, we would drop them. The made sure those are not issues. Strong plastic, great clear glass, and easy to read charts. Well worth the money!
After using API for years I was convinced that they were good enough for hobbyists. That is until I got into serious reef keeping and my corals weren't looking their best. I found out my levels were not even close to what API had tested, to begin with API was hard to read. The color wheel makes color comparison a breeze and RedSea have made this test super accurate. RedSea also has fantastic customer support!
This test kit is great. It is so easy to use. All is coated so wet fingers don't ruin it like other kits. Excellent High Range ability as well if your parameters are high. Very solid product all around and super easy to use, its not splitting hairs like some other kits to see a difference in colors.
this kit is easy to use, the charts are laminated so u dont have to worry about water damage, the storage case keeps eerything nice a neat.
great test kit. very easy to read. Red Sea test kits are the best.
the packaging keeps everything neat and organized and looks nice. The tests what can i say over the years many have been used, but none perform as nicely as a red sea test kit.
This test is easy to use but I still struggle to match colors. I recently did 3 PO4 tests of my tank, the output of my GFO reactor, and my RO/DI water. They all gave different colors but I had to guess that they all matched the same color chip 0.08. I really don’t think that was the correct result as my RO/DI unit is new and reading zero TDS and my GFO reactor had new media and was flowing very slowly.
good and easy to read results
Awsome kit and easy to use. Cant go wrong with Red Sea test kits.
Top quality materials, easy to read and very accurate. I'm sold on the Red Sea test kits.
good and easy to read results
Based on my good experience with the Foundation multi-kit, I bought the Algae control nitrate and phosphate tests. I had been using the Hanna Checker for phosphate and API for nitrate. The color wheel makes these test extremely easy compared to a color card. Viewing the color in the control sample through the same tank water as the test sample eliminates any distortion with interpretation of the results.
I love the ease of reading and determining what your values are once you get your final results... The kit seems to be very accurate in telling you what your parameters are and you can determine the difference between say .08 and .16. The precision in this test kit is unmatched compared to some of the other tests I have used and it comforts me knowing what my parameters are. If just looking for a general areas of what they are.. many other tests may work.. but I believe this one is very accurate and well worth the money! Very satisfied... thanks a ton!
red sea tests are very easy and convinent, and a great price.
This color wheel was so easy to read that my 3 year old child said "'Daddy thats the color right here" and she was right. Thanks to BRS and RedSea my daughter is becoming quite the little marine biologist ( like her aunt).
The test kit works great clear and easy to read results and great quality stuff come with great case a little hard to stuff it into but still nice
