The Red Sea RSK 600 Reefer Protein Skimmer is a high-efficiency waste removal device engineered specifically for advanced saltwater aquariums. Utilizing the patented Venturi injection system, it creates millions of microbubbles that maximize surface area contact to strip dissolved organic compounds from the water before they break down into harmful nitrates and phosphates. This process ensures crystal clear water and reduces the biological load on the filtration system, promoting a healthier environment for corals and fish.
This unit features an integrated collection cup with a built-in overflow protection system and a silent DC pump that allows for precise flow rate adjustments via a simple dial. The skimmer body is constructed from durable acrylic with a sleek design that fits perfectly into Red Sea Reefer sumps as well as many other standard sump configurations. Its compact footprint delivers the performance of much larger units, making it ideal for systems up to 600 liters while maintaining a quiet operation suitable for home or display environments.
This protein skimmer is best suited for reef keepers and marine aquarists who demand pristine water quality for sensitive invertebrates and SPS corals. It is an essential upgrade for hobbyists looking to maintain stable parameters with minimal maintenance, offering the reliability and efficiency needed for long-term tank success. Whether you are upgrading a small system or building a dedicated reef display, this skimmer provides the consistent waste removal necessary to sustain vibrant marine life.

This skimmer is great. Soon as I put in tin it started working after 3 days I have nice skim mate it’s producing no issues. Great product Red Sea and super quiet!
Very disappointed with the product. It's difficult to dial in. The water level must be perfect. Had to build a riser in order for it work in the Red Sea Reefer sump. Adding a float switch to prevent overflows was a pain, while the competition comes with this feature. The only benefit to this product is the drain hose. I would not buy another one and can't wait to replace it.
I had a terminator 2 protien skimmer on my 150g mixed reef at the recommendation of a friend but that thing uses two pumps and it didn't work for me at all my tank looked bad. I installed the rsk 600 and all my algae problems disappeared. I'm a happy camper now. I am very satisfied with this skimmer. It has been very quiet also compared to what I had before.
Red Sea really missed the mark with this skimmer. I've struggled with it for over the past year constantly having to adjust to get skimmate only to then watch it over flow with the slightest change. 30 minutes into a replacement skimmer I had skimmate. Worst red sea product ever. Oh btw did I mention my lawnmower makes less noise?
I've seen too many reviews claim that this skimmer is "silent." Perhaps the people who claim it to be silent couldn't hear it over the sound of the rest of their equipment. But from my experiences, this skimmer is certainly not silent. Is it loud? No. But it's audible with the cabinet door shut -- and that's loud enough to be disappointing for anyone aiming to create a truly silent system like I was. It does have some very nice features like the built-in neck cleaner and drain line with a valve. Honestly, these features are a game changer and I hope they become prevalent on more skimmers in the future. But again, if you're buying this because you want a quiet skimmer, I would suggest looking elsewhere. I got rid of this and purchased a Reef Octo Regal -- that skimmer is far quieter than the Red Sea Skimmer.
Confession. I don’t own this skimmer, however I own two RSK 300s. Which is the same thing with only 2 differences. 1) slightly bigger and slightly taller and 2) uses a the Sicce PSK1000 instead of the PSK600 for the smaller skimmer. Easily the best skimmers I’ve ever owned. HOWEVER. My only gripe is this. How does this skimmer literally cost 50% more than it’s smaller counterpart? The replacement pumps are literally a $10 difference and the slightly different sizes are insignificant with their manufacturing. Lol. Having said that, consider getting the RSK300 and putting in the sicce1000. I done it, works like a champ with significantly increased air and water flow. Do this, and you’ll still save money and have a PSK600 as a backup pump to boot!! Thanks for reading, had to get that off my chest!
I have been using this skimmer now for 4mo. My bio load is light on a 160g system (Red Sea 625). In saying that this Skimmer needs to be emptied every three days. I have the unit adjusted for a drier skimmate. Still needs to get emptied and cleaned every three days. 1. The skimmer needed a long 3 week break in. Be prepared for that. 2. The foam comes out the lid vents and makes a mess. 3. Removing the cup from the body is a pain. The O-ring seal is very tight. 4. Running a drier skim causes the drain line to clog. Overall, it’s a good skimmer but it would be nice to have it CO2 recirculation ready. Also a different skimmer cup mount system would be better.
This skimmer was just like the BRS video said. Easy to put together and started making great foam immediately.
So far this has been a great skimmer. Packaged well, Assembly was easy. Super quiet, I can't even hear it. It started producing skim within literal minutes. The neck cleaner comes in handy, the drain tube works really nice, comes in handy when in a tight space.
I purchased this skimmer a week ago. And it’s awesome Worth every penny
