This is my first new skimmer in 20 years, coming from an old AC Bubble Magnus Curve, so this is a huge upgrade in technology for me. The DC pump is so quiet, even running at almost 100%. Having both major and minor adjustments available of the water level is fantastic…it took no time to dial in the proper level and having fantastic skim without even any break in period. Air intake control is all new to me, but starting with a pretty wet skim to start due to high nutrients currently. Installation was very straight forward, and everything felt premium, down to the titanium screws. Okay..all that is the same as the non EQ 160, everyone wants to know about the Mobius control. Mobius control has 3 premade template: high performance (runs at 80%, Nutrient Removal Reduction (run at at 50%), and phytoplankton sparing (runs lower at night). Having nutrient issues, so I am running at high performance for now. There is not much more you can do…similar to Mobius controlled lights…dial it in a forget it. This will connect to my Apex through MXM at somepoint, but my A2 Apex has yet to receive the firmware that will allow it work yet, hopefully soon. There I will be able to adjust it with feed modes (there is feed mode option in Mobius, but I don’t use it as I have elaborate feed modes programmed in the Apex) The light is nice as an indicator…is just just been ‘green’ for me. The green is NOT supposed to promote algae growth…but we shall see. You can turn on the light to be a bright white light to illuminate the sump, but it is only really bright if the skimmer is off, the bubbles while it is running blocks the light considerably. What is it missing? I would love an overflow prevention device with it. I am using an aftermarket AutoAqua Smart Skimmer Security, which when the skimmer cup Is full, the power would shut off. Would have loved to have seen an eloquent Mobius/MXM solution which would provide push notifications when this happens…perhaps an idea for an add on. Fantastic Skimmer! Do you need the EQ upgrade if you have the plain 160? The skimmer was the only part of my system not part of the Mobius/MXM ecosystem, so a gear junkie like me…the system is ‘now complete’. But not sure it would be worth the $300 upgrade for most people. As more users start using this and developing Mobius and Apex shareable routines, this could become much more useful…that power is in the hands of the users.
