Mixes easy and fast not much to say . Always consistent.parameter works for me
Mixes crystal clear, doesn’t leave residue, easy on pumps. Can’t see myself going back to Red Sea after using Tropic Marin. This stuff is the real deal!
clears up fast and the parameters are on target. will be using this product moving forward.
Consistent 6.5 dkh. Lower than advertised using a Hanna checker. Seems like they are charging more for less by doing this. Would be good salt if I didn’t have to add so much supplements just to be able to use it.
consistent, and mixes clean.
This salt mixture fast clean and consistent. Loving it so far just got my second box
I have now purchased 4 boxes of this stuff. I have been using a 32 gallon Brute tub and mixing it. After 3 boxes I drained it 100% to see if there was any residue. Not to my surprise there was 0 residue. I also can’t believe how fast this stuff mixes up. As long as the water is at temp 77-79F this stuff will mix in 2 hours or less with the right amount of water movement. I purchased 2x rather large wave makers 4000gph each on opposite sides and it turns that water over and in no time its clear.
My go to mix as it mixes quick and ready to use. I also have noticed that in my reservoir there is less brown residue on the walls of the container. My coral show great signs that make it worth the extra cost of salt mix.
I am new to mixing my own salt water. I went to BRS Customer Service and requested a recommendation for a salt brand for my mixed reef tank. As usual they were very helpful with answering my questions. Suggested Tropic Marin Pro Reef. I have mixed two batches to date and it is very consistent and the bottom of my Saltwater barrel looks the same as my RODI barrel. Very impressed.
I use this and aqua forest salt exclusively because they are simply the best on the market I have found. This is by far the fastest to mix clear out of any salt that I have used and the corals respond well to having this on an AWC system to keep all the minor elements stable.
You say you want instant Diatoms? Irratic parameters? Well THIS is the miracle product for you. Just add a bit to your tank and let the fun begin.
This stuff is top notch and highly recommend it for reef aquariums! It stores well for long periods of time as well!
I've been using this salt for several months now and am very happy with how fast and cleanly it mixes, and its consistency between the many boxes I've gone through. My corals are thriving so I'll keep using it. I've made sure to confirm my salt is coming from Germany and not Turkey, as people have had issues with that in the past. In my experience buying it from BRS it works really well and is worth the cost!
I switched from Red Sea Blue to this salt and within a month (three 10% water changes) my Alk went from 12 to 4--and I have daily dosing of ATI Essentials. I have 90% of my bucket purchase left and I am going to toss it in the garbage. I will never buy this stuff again.
I ordered the 100 gallon box mix which was damaged but only cosmetically. The salt is amazing and mixed better than any other salt I've ever used. Mixed up perfectly clean and the pH was 8.2 and overall I'm very happy with TM pro salt.
Stable and no gunk! Constantly the same across batches! Exactly what you expect from KZ
I have really good results with this salt and it stores well and no gunk
Well.... It started off good. But then my third box, all my parameters went ballistic for some reason. Alk and calcium has been extremely low for whatever reason. Bad batch maybe??
I just changed to this salt mix from Red Sea Coral Pro salt. I will say this is only the second brand of salt I've used. There was no residue left in my buckets or my pump and heater......I measured the parameters, after reading the other recent reviews, and they are right where Tropic Marin advertises on the box. I will update my review if needed at later date.
I have been using this salt for about 2 years. As the time went on I noticed major fluctuations in the product parameters to the point where I wouldn’t use this salt if you gave it to me free. This salt, since I have used it the alkalinity was always low at about 7-7.3 DKH . Calcium would come in at around 450ppm. Last 2 purchases calcium is so high that my salifert test kit can’t even read it. Test kit has been verified as okay by testing tank parameters to Trident reading and also compared to an ATI test. I do not recommend using this salt unless you want your tank parameters to go ballistic.
started off great, mixes pretty well, not very dirty. My biggest complaint is my alkalinity and calcium rapidly dropped after a few months of using it. I will be on the hunt for a new salt mix that mixes closer to what I keep my parameters at.
I didn't think that tropic Matin would lower the alkalinity in this product. The parameters used to be perfect for my needs, 8.5 alkalinity and 450 Calcium. I now have to dose my salt mix before doing my water changes because the alkalinity comes out to around 7 (at 35ppt). I stick through them in their Turkish salt debacle because of how they handled the situation, but this salt is just pretty pointless to me now. Reef crystals is half the price and gets me the parameters I need without dosing, no it's not as clean, but oh well.
I lost several expensive corals after using this salt. The alk is extremely low. Why even make salt that has an alk of 7 when alk should be between 8-12? I had to order a different brand of salt and do multiple large water changes to get this junk out of my tank. Now my corals seem happier. Don’t buy this salt. There are much better options out there.
To echo what many on here have said this salt is not what it used to be. I have had my last 2 boxes destroyed during shipping ( no issues from BRS getting me 2 replacements). Even with the “German” made salt I get brown residue in my bucket from a single batch. ALK has never been good for me (6.3-6.8dkh) after 5 years of using this salt. This last batch is my last as I will finally make a switch. Have had success with Red Sea blue bucket before so I may go with that. Not living up to the hype anymore and I will not justify the price any longer. Used to be 5 star but this product has changed for the worst.
This is a great salt. It mixes clear like BRS shows and I use it for that purpose. IMO the cleaner a salt mixes, the better the initial ingredients. However, it is not a 5 star review because the 200 gallon bucket makes about 160 gallons. The 160 gallon box makes about 140 gallons.
After 2 years or so of using this salt with great results, I unfortunately got bad salt from turkey. I lost a bunch of mature colonies slowly as my awc replaced my good water with the bad. At first I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I did what we all do when things don't look quite right, more/bigger water changes, which made things even worse. Then others using tm pro reported similar issues and it all made sense. I did an icp test to confirm and MG was super low around 1000, as well as 0 iron and some other elements that are supposes to be in there. I lost about half my reef before I switched to red sea blue bucket and so far it has been great plus its cheaper and mixes just as well.
I highly recommend BRS and Tropic Marin. However through no fault of BRS if one has the opportunity, to pickup salts at BRS or another LFS, best be advised to do so. I repeatedly make the same mistake hoping for a better outcome. Delivery vendors could care less of how the packages are delivered. Too many times after bringing into house, the boxes have been broken and or punctured. I realize 50lbs. of salt is heavy and awkward, but a little forethought on behalf of the delivery driver would save BRS, delivery company and me just another headache to deal with. It's a safe bet these boxes are pristine, prior to leaving the BRS docks.
First I would say that the salt mixes fast, and it can be stored for a long period of time without any problem which is great for AWC. However, I am very disappointed by the quality recently. I got 2 boxes of Turkey-made batch that had problems and got both replaced. Both boxes turned out the alkalinity is off, as low as 5.9, varying between 5.9 to 6.5 dKh. It took me some time and additional cost to raise alk by adding All-For-Reef to the mixed water, I personally started to switch from this to Red Sea blue bucket, at least until I hear more good reviews about this again. I have been using this for over 3 years and I was very satisfied, until this entire quality problem recently, I hope this product recovers to its previous quality, it is a consider a premium salt given the price, and it is reasonable for us as customers to demand great quality.
I’ve been disappointed with the parameters of this salt, the fact it’s pharma grade and they take great care to mix this stuff properly is highly appealing and why I started using it but I wish they would figure out the alkalinity issues. I am starting to think of switching salts because every batch takes too much effort to adjust and their parameters are off. Their website states you can maintain an alk of 7-8 but I’ve started testing each time I mix and it will vary from from 6.5 to 6.9, that’s unacceptably low imo.
I have been using this salt for over a year now, gone through 3 buckets now, and keep noticing each bucket has lower alk, and magnesium levels much lower then what tropic Marin claims. Alk being 6.5, calcium 430, and magnesium 1170-1200. The amount of dosing needed to bring those numbers up is insane, and I have no idea how this salt is still considered “the best”. Switch to reef crystals, less dosing, half the price, better results.
Mixes fast and clean. Did get a Turkey made bucket but I didn't have issues thankfully
Before I started this hobby I listened to all the videos that BRS had released on salt. Since then, about 2 years ago, I have been using this salt due to how clean it would be. My first 2 or 3 buckets mixed super clean. It wasn't till after BRS had black Friday and Tropic Marine gave away $10,000 in Tropic Marine Pro Reef Salt. The you couldn't get any right away cause they were out. I know, big surprise right? lol So the first available buckets were from a different vendor. I was forced to buy from them so I could do my water changes. This is when I first noticed the brown stuff floating around in my container. I chalked it up too maybe it's normal. What do I know? I'm new to the hobby. It wasn't until I started to see posts of people complaining about this mysterious brown stuff in there salt that I realized that this wasn't normal. I am ok with BRS and Tropic Marine addressing the problem and making it right. But I do wonder now if the $1000 in fish that I lost had something to do with this. They randomly died for no apparent reason. Guess I'll never know. All that being said, I will continue to use the Tropic Marine Pro Reef Salt cause they have seemed to find a solution to keep reefers happy and I believe they will continue to product a quality product. Not everyone is perfect.
Because of this salt, I've lost close to 1,000 dollars worth of sps corals.Must of been that made in Turkey facility
First batch I definitely had brown residue buildup and coral loss must’ve been from turkey. Second batch mixed cleaner and just now is inconsistent. I switched to Neomarine with similar parameters.
I switched to TM Pro Reef recently and I'm impressed with how easy it is to mix and the speed at which the solution clarifies. The ease of mixing compared to other salts I've tried is simply magical. I started with IO, which left a lot of residuals after mixing (sand?). Then I tried Red Sea Coral Pro, which I liked for its composition but it was really finicky to mix and I had to take care so that it did not precipitate and it took a long while to clear. With TM precipitation and waiting for it to clear is not an issue so that makes water changes much simpler. The only negative is that the alkalinity is lower than what I prefer. With Red Sea's Coral Pro Salt I was able to maintain 9-9.5 dKH. It dropped to ~8 dKH after a 30% water change with TM. That's probably acceptable but I'm still waiting to see how the level will be maintained between water changes with the kalkwasser dosing that's in place.
I have been religiously using this salt for years and was very happy when BRS started selling it, as it was sometimes difficult to find. But as of late, I am concerned at the brown residue it leaves on my mixing container and pumps and and heater in the container. I never had this problem before. I have to run the contents through a filter sock before using on a water change. Unless this issue is resolved by Tropic Marin soon. I will find a different brand.
El producto es de una excelente calidad.
I swear BRS must be about to purchase Tropic Marin too, the amount of advertisement they put on this salt is ridiculous compared to how it performs. First of all, I used TMP salt for over 1 year, here is what I observed: Cleanliness: TMP salt is NOT clean as they picture in their Investigates and live streams. This salt left a brown sludge in my 100 gal mixing station just like any other salt. To be honest, the Reef Crystals I am currently using seems cleaner than TMP. Price vs advertised gallons: I used to pay around $100.00 + tax for this salt. After COVID-19 the local price has increased to almost $120.00 + ax. I am not sure about you, but to pay around $130.00 total for a bucket of salt, that advertises 200 gallons and really (at 1.026 SG) makes only 160/170ish gallons, is a little too much for me. Availability: This salt was almost never available when I needed. Parameters: Low dKH (7.0) is impractical for most reefers I know. Slowly but surely my dosings needed to be increased to account for low dKH during WC's. Overall comments: this salt is NOT worth the hype Ryan and Randy put on it. It isn't nothing special, if anything just an overhyped and overpriced salt that will make your bins dirty like any other brand, and mixes at 7 dKH. The only positive for me is its consistency (always mixes at same parameters). I would not recommend this salt over any other based on my personal experience.
I have been in the saltwater hobby for over 40 yrs and have tried almost every salt there is. However, I only started using Tropic Marin about 3 years ago. Its amazing how clean it mixes. Its crystal clear in about 15 min after mixing. I use it as soon as I make it and the corals have no adverse reaction when the new saltwater is added. Coral color and expansion greatly improved as soon as I made the switch. Its expensive but when you have 1,000's of dollars in coral and fish in your tank why would you ever skimp on something as important as salt?? Very consistent parameters from bucket to bucket too.
I do AWCs on all my tanks and consistency in salt is key. Pro Reef and Tropic Marin are hands down the cleanest highest quality salt out there.
I have ordered it 3 times and 2 times the box is ripped and there is a lot of salt missing. This last time I think a third was missing.
This salt is truly worth every penny. Want to never change your water but once or twice a year? Use this salt. Want to mix your salt on the fly and within minutes do a water change? Use this salt. My tank has seen it all regarding attention, from zero attention for months on end to daily attention. This salt is super stable. I've sent off kits to Triton for reports, they come back excellent. For me, the most impressive thing is how quickly you can mix a batch. Using a 2.5-gallon jug you can add salt, physically shake that jug around for a few minutes and the salt is ready, super clear! You could not do this with any other salt, ever.
Mixes very clean. Able to store it mixed for long periods of time. Very consistent parameters. One thing that I do not personally like is the low ALK. If you lie running low ALK around 7 dKH then this salt is for you. I switched to the classic salt for the higher ALK. Review coming soon!
Mixes clear in seconds, crystal clear in less than an hour. My batched mixed to 7.5dkh, 450ppm calcium, and 1280 ppm mag.
This salt mixes with very low alk, and it is really dirty salt. After just two buckets, I have a dark brown sludge in the bottom of the mixing container. IO is cleaner salt this TM. I'm having to clean my mixing container, after every other bucket.
I love this salt! I have been using it for over a year and my tanks are loving it! some may say that the price is higher, but when you actually look at the cost per gallon, and what comes out of the bucket, you are actually paying $.05 more per gallon over IO Reef Crystals. using this in conjunction with ALL FOR REEF is amazing! I couldn't grow SPS very well in the tank, and switching to this and AFR I now have encrusting and amazing growth! Other than sometimes its hard to get a hold of, its great! just set the notification on here to alert you when its in stock... Buy this stuff! You'll be happy!
I used Instant Ocean for about 15 years in FOWLR tanks. When I started keeping corals, I switched to HW Reefer as that is what was recommended to me at the time. About a year ago I decided to get into SPS and figured I would switch to Tropic Marin because all the hype. I feel like it mixes very clean and quickly. The parameters seem stable with each batch and I trust it to be contaminant free being pharma grade. I have two issues with this salt. The first being that the ALK is lower than I would run in my tanks and I have to adjust each batch before using. The other is that it is never available. The ALK I am willing to deal with, but what good is a salt if you can never get it when you need it. I switched back to HW Reefer.
I started off in this hobby using TMP salt. At the time I had a nano tank so a large bucket would last 6 months and cost about 70 bucks (yes it was a long time ago). I didn't put 2 and 2 together at the time, but after a water change the tank responded like I've never seen before. Fast forward to today and I'm running an auto water change on a red sea 525XL. I jumped around with salts starting with Fritz and then to Red Sea regular and pro. Both salts were fantastic and again the tank seemed to respond well to water changes. Then after about a year and a half of tank uptime I had major issues with my water change lines clogging with sediment. I knew how clean TMP mixed from my previous use so I switched back. I can't say I notice a huge difference in the tank, but my mixing bins and lines are spotless. For those doing manual water changes, the other premium salts BRS carries will do and TMP might not be worth the added cost. But if you're using an auto water change with 1/4" lines, a clean salt is a must and TPM is the only I've come across so far.
love this salt, but it's never ever in stock lol anywhere....FML
I love this salt.. I switched from hw marine reefer and I am never going back after just a couple water changes i can tell the difference in my corals no joke... this salt is amazing.
This salt mixes easily and quickly. I started with this salt and was disappointed when I was forced to try other salts due to availability. One of the others (red sea pro) even left a bit of a rainbow slick on the top of the water. Great salt but I struggled with weather or not to dock it a star for being so hard to buy. make sure you grab an extra bucket when you see it in stock.
My first bucket was great, all parameters spot on. My last purchase however the magnesium is at 1200ppm at salinity 1.025sg! I tested multiple times. Friend of mine said his salt tested low on alkalinity at 6.7dkh.
Follow the directions and you’ll be happy. This salt mixes very fast, I’d say within 15 minutes and my parameters are always spot on. Availability, on occasion, would be the only complaints, some may say “Price,” but this is worth every penny IMHO.
IMO this is the best salt to use. I've used every brand thru my 20+ years in the hobby and this is by far the best I think. Mixes consistent throughout the entire bucket, very clean even when storing mixed long term leaves zero residue, and mixes crystal clear very quickly within an hr.
After being a devotee to IO Reef Crystals for years, I tried this on a flyer. It mixes up so much more easily and leaves the container completely clean. There are no chunks of hardened salt in the mix container ever (or at least so far). It's a great salt albeit more expensive. If you're not pinching pennies, this is the way to go.
This salt mixes very clean.
Mixes clean, always test within the margins of error for alk, cal and mag. And my 100 gallon salt storage tank stays clean! What more could you ask for?
It took me a while to come around to the price as I was using a cheaper salt mix and my tanks were doing ok. I ended up switching when I saw how clean a mixing station my friend had was. He was almost never needing to clean it where I was cleaning almost every month. Proof is in the lack of residue in the station. No impurities, every batch mixes the same.
A little pricey, but avoiding the hassle of the slow mixing and cruddy residue is well worth it.
The number one reason I enjoy this salt over all others is how quick and clean it mixes and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a good quality salt for your reef tank!
The only salt I’ll ever use on a reef tank
This salt is without question the fastest mixing and best salt Ive used. I have mixed well over 200 gallons in the same Brute trash can with zero residue visible. This is an excellent product an worth every single penny.
I switched over to Tropic Marin Pro on September 15 2019 and it's February 12 2020 as I write this (a couple days short of five months). The salt mixes up clear very quickly and the parameters have been pretty spot on with what BRS claims (also where I keep my tank). My mixing station (55g containers) are still spotless inside. By all accounts, it is a fantastic salt with the exception of the price tag. Our 75g acropora dominant reef has been maintained with weekly water changes of 10-20 gallons weekly; increasing over time as demand increased in the tank (using just over 2 dKh of soda ash daily at time of writing this review). I dosed 2-part the entire time but used magnesium levels to dictate water change amounts (rational being that the other macro and micro elements were probably being deplete proportionately and ICP analysis mostly supported this). So after 5 months of using Tropic Marin, there is absolutely no difference in the appearance or growth rate of the corals which is why I dock a star (value). At literally twice what I pay for Instant Ocean (what I used for the three years prior to this) at any local retailer and nothing to show in regard to results in tank, I'm having a hard time justifying the use of Tropic Marin. The only plus for me is that I dont have to add muriatic acid to bring the alkalinity down like I was with Instant Ocean. The 2 minutes I save by not having to add 50ml of muriatic acid to my mixing container as I dump a bag of Instant Ocean into the water isn't worth the extra $50 I'm paying for the salt (usually $60-63 more than I pay for a box of Instant Ocean because I typically buy it when it goes on sale). I'm gonna try one more bucket, which should last about two months just to give it a fair chance but if you're making a change hoping for something magical to happen, it wont (if you're coming from Instant Ocean at least). Again, outside of price, I have only positive things to say about the salt. Build thread for the tank can be found on R2R here: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/office-tranquility-75g.312225/
My corals appear to be 'happier' using this salt, while others just were just 'ok.'
Ive been reefing since 2010 and I’ve tried instant ocean regular, reef crystals, Red Sea blue bucket, Red Sea pro, and now tropic Marin pro. Tropic Marin pro is by far the cleanest and easiest to mix and most consistent. I’m never changing salt!
I use various salts. In all honesty most salts have no impact on my reef. It's stable and taken care off by automatic water changes. However, the reason I think this salt is better, is the way it mixes. Warm, cold, hand stirred, it doesnt matter how you mix up the water, it always mixes clean and does NOT clog up my water change lines. Most other salts are much more finicky about how they are mixed or how long I can run a pump. If I'm in a hurry and have to go to work but need to mix up a batch this one never fails to
This salt is so clean. It leaves almost no residue in the mixing container. The alkalinity is low, and the calcium is high. This means no calcification within the container and none (or very little) calcification on the pumps. Highly recommend this salt for beginners and advanced aquarists alike.
The best salt mix out there and I have tried a bunch. My tank holds parameters and looks better than it ever has!
This is by far the best salt that I've ever used. It mixes easily and consistently every time. It seems to be well mixed in the bucket when it arrives (no clumps or separation), and it leaves NO residue in my mixing container. I've had a few ICP tests done since switching to this salt and it holds params perfectly. It also maintains and mixes to my preferred DKH at right around 8.1 I don't see myself using a different salt ever. Salts I've previously used: Red Sea Coral Pro, HW Marine
The salt is good..however I think its meant for people who will be dosing. I am aware people run stable tanks at 7dkh..but if for some strange reason your DKH dips down to 4-5dkh range you will have a hard time catching up if you don't dose 1part, or 2 part. I think this should be made very clear. 20% water change will not touch a 4-5dkh..it will take some time to get it back to near 7dkh, a few water changes. I think the best solution for people running LPS tanks, or softies and want their dkh around 8-9 Hw-marine is the way to go. Especially when you're buying frags from dealers and you know for a fact they are running their alkalinity a lot higher - you will lose some corals/frags as I did. Mixes great, no residue, however the low DKH is not great for people like me who do not own SPS corals . The ratios are good in this mix, and for good reason - you plan on adding 2 part of 1 part. If you're gonna choose a salt and don't plan on having a mixed reef with a lot of SPS - then choose this one because you will need to dose. If you're straight LPS, torches, zoas, blastos, etc - choose the hwmarine as a higher rated DKH .
I recently transitioned to this salt. I was originally using a other salt that tends to get bad batches. i saw that my sps lost color and were fading when new ones were introduced to my system. I tested every single parameter and all were within limits. 3 days after doing the switch i can see more polp extension and my sps corals seem to just be even happier. so much that one that was completely bleach has the slightest tint of color. after doing more research into this brand i feel i'll continue to use the Tropic Marin Pro salt.
Just started using Tropic Marin and I love it. My coral were starting to die switch to Tropic Marin a month ago and already starting to see the difference.
Ive been using TM since the mid 90's. It is still my favorite mix. 80 gal bucket is perfect size for my 75 gal barrel at 35ppm.
I've been using Tropic Marin since 2004! They always been the best and my reefs show it! Very trusted and established brand! Don't hesitate to buy!
Best salt out there. Corals love it and water is pristine and always consistent.
best salt i've tried, corals respond great. mixes clear without residue.
Very clean salt! I run on lower nutrient side and find few others as stable in 7 kH range. To sell this salt, the best advice is to show a few competitors mixing tank. I can say it is best to buy from cold place and store cold. I had issue in past buying from an Atlanta warehouse where the Calcium Chloride salt portions will get sticky and melt
Working for a store we go through a lot of salt, tropic marin pro is the salt that we use both in our aquaculture facility but more importantly my own tanks. It maintains high calcium without spiking alk like others out there (red sea pro). By far this is the only salt I will recommend or use in my own tank.
