I bought two of these. One is fitted to a 10 gallon tall tank and one is fitted to a Hello Reef. In both cases the mount is perfect. No slipping and no issues readjusting. On the Hello Reef the finish looks perfect. The arm makes a nice 90 degree angle with none of the arm sticking out the back. The light tilts slightly down and makes the AI Prime illuminate the little reef better than I expected. The 10 gallon tall has a 12" x 12" footprint and when mounting this light the adjustments made it possible to perfectly aim the light. The arm does stick out slightly in the back and that looks a tad tacky. Besides that, no complaints. I would give them 4.8 stars overall! Been using both for three months without the issues reported by less experienced users.
I ordered two tank mounts. One of the mounts was missing a packet of hardware. AI customer support quickly dispatched the hardware for me. So two thumps up for that. The mounts are sleek - just what I wanted. My only complaint is the difficulty or impossibility to fully tighten the lights to the mount. If I bump into the light, the light will tilt very easy. It would be nice to fully lock them into position so I'm not constantly repositioning them due to my clumsiness.
Ball joint is hard to adjust and the two small screws are hard to adjust; one stripped pretty quickly
I have this mounted on a waterbox 20. The adjustability and overall aesthetics are a nice addition to my nano reef. I really like the cord management features.
Minus the PITA that is initially installing these arms, They look amazing, they work well, and are easy to adjust. Only problem I've noticed: If you have a large amount of sealant on the top rim of the tank, it is hard to screw in the mount firmly, leading to a droopy light arm.
I have purchased 2 of these Tank Mounts for my AI Prime 16 HD's. This is a quality product made from strong and durable materials. There is adjustability built right into the mount that will let you use this on a wide variety of tank types. I am currently using one on an EVO 13.5 nano setup.
It worked good for a week then after that it keeps falling over I’m lucky to have a cover on my tank because if I didn’t thing could have been a lot worse for my tank The only thing that I have a problem with is the adhesive what time is it it’s a slight right off to the point where I’m going to the store and buying 3M tape I don’t know how you can sell such a cheap product to people
These are good mounts for the AI Primes. I bought 2, and my main gripe is that the angle for the bend is slightly different so they are a bit asymmetrical on my tank to get the lights to the same height. Also, I’m convinced that the image of the assembled bracket are wrong...if you put the top bar on UPSIDE DOWN (flip it over, but it still goes ON TOP of the vertical bar) and install the light that way, there’s a cutout in the bracket that fits precisely around the light’s cord where it comes out. This alleviates the stress/cutting concern that some people have with the bracket pinching the cord if it’s assembled like in the picture. The cutout/notch in the bracket seems like it would have no other purpose except to fit around the cord in this way...not sure why the images show what they do...the wrong image is even on the packaging. I’d recommend this bracket provided you break the rules as I did.
These are very sleek and hold up well. I got these to hold my AI 16 prime reef lights and I love them. Once they come back in stock I plan to get more for my other tanks
Simple to put together and looks great over my rimless 32 Biocube
Overall the product was made very well, but I did have a few problems with it. I found that it was a little too long for my tank and I couldn't back it up because it hit the wall. I didn't have enough space to put the light directly over the water, it came out about and inch and a half too far. Good thing is, I have a welder in my family and he was able to cut it. Took off the inch and a half and voila. Perfect fit. Another minor detail, is that I find they didn't have enough detailed instructions with it but I just googled it and had no problems after that. Like I said, the product is made very well, just that problem with the length, for some it would be a major problem but thankfully I had a backup plan.
Easy to setup and works perfectly.
People it's a Light stand. Granted there were issues with earlier models which were fixed. I have the latest revision. It was simple to put together, even without instructions. I have one major issue with the design however that I definitely feel AI should address. The Power cable is not detachable; so when you are situating the light or if you have to rotate the light, there is a high possibility and probability that you will in fact slice through the black insulation on the power cable. This is a pretty poor situation given how much you pay for these things and how you either hang them or use these mounts... One would figure it wouldn't effectively cut up the only wire coming out of the unit....
I am not sure why everyone else is experiencing headaches with this mount. I installed it on my tank and have had zero issues. I set the light in the position I wanted, tightened down the screw on each side of the ball joint where the mount connects to the light fixture and it has been solid. I would not recommend trying to adjust the lights position with out loosening the ball joint screws or the plastic friction ring might get compromised. In all the reviews I read that seems to be the problem. I am happy with the mount. I would give five stars if it were a bit more refined.
This bracket worked just fine for me, no dropping of the light, just tighten the screws around the ball joint and the light stays in any postion you like.
this mount works flawlessly there are two bolts on the ball joint tighten them down with included allen wrench and it wont tilt down on you. hides wire well. for the money you cant beat it.
The light mount is good could be better though.
Nice mount. I also has the tilting issue. Contact AI customer service and they ask me for my address and shipped the new mount piece right away.
For of having a nice light Aqua illumination could of made a better light holder, it tilts made myself a rubber washer to have a better grip so it won't tilt, working so far.
Although what everyone else has said is true, no one has talked about the AI customer service. I bought this product and experienced the drooping light. This was due to a manufacturing issue with the plastic piece that fits in the hole the metal ball sits in that they have since fixed. I contacted AI support via the website and explained my issue. In addition, when I tried tightening the screws, I stripped one of them. AI sent me a brand new mount to replace mine but it still had the drooping issue so I contacted them and they sent out the part right away and I had it within a few days. Now it works flawlessly.
Do not buy this mounting arm. When you place any pressure on the screw to hold the light puck in place the swivel ball will push through the arm. Save your money and look elsewhere
I liked the idea of being able to direct the light. But it blows my mind how you could mess up the implementation of the mount. It is just a ball and socket joint, almost all car mounted cell phone holders use ball and socket joints that don't droop. But for this you light just flops over. You cannot adjust the direction of your light because the ball and socket does not hold. Why did they use smooth shiny steel for the ball? why not a plastic ball and socket clamp like for every other device? AI has lost its shine.
The bracket is a horrible design. The light will not stay straight and just falls limp. I would say the light output is closer to 25 watts than to 50 watts.
This light keeps tilting and falling down with this bracket. I have replaced the bushing 3 times and still wont keep the light straight out.
