I've used 2 of the purple, and 1 of the pink in my 40g with no results months later.
I added this to my new 5-week old tank and had coralline growing a week later. Obviously I had calc/alk/pH where it needed to be before adding this stuff. But it worked for me.
I was a little bit skeptical of this product but I bought 2 of the pink and purple kits for my 625 liter tank (so 4 bottles) and after just a few weeks I've noticed innumerable small patches of pink and purple coralline algae growing all over the rocks. Very pleasantly surprised and would recommend this for all new/newer tanks you'd like to seed with the stuff.
My tank has been up for 6 months now. I bought this one month in and then swapped to a larger tank with new sand, etc. I was disappointed that nothing happened. I received this again yesterday to try it again now that my alkalinity, and all parameters are stable. Within 24 hours, I see corraline growing on my back glass. No joke, if your tank is stable and ready, this stuff will grow within a day or days. 10/10
Filled tank on 9/10, added coralline on 10/1. Noticed a spot on rock on 11/12, and a few more on other rocks and wavemaker on 11/14. Can’t determine if it’s from other exogenous sources though: I have snails with coralline on their shells and frags with coralline on the plugs.
In this hobby it's so difficult to tell the difference between snake oil and good products. This stuff is worthless. I've given it six months and I'm barely starting to get coralline algae. I'm certain that I'd have the same amount if I never added it at all. Google this stuff, save your money.
My tank is 4 months old. I have a 75 gallon display. I bought this to help out compete some of the green algae growing in the tank and add some color. I expected it to take a few months given the reviews. My tank is well cycled but nitrates and phosphates run a little high. I have killed a few Sps but Lps and softies are doing ok. Was worried the Coralline would take. It took 3 weeks. I saw a turbo up high on the front display today with pink and purple spots. Started snooping around and there are over a dozen spots. Mostly rock work, power heads, and shells. Was a lot quicker than expected. Excited to continue to see it grow.
Took right at 2months for me to notice results, but might have been there sooner now it's starting to take off, totally recommend
Added this today. Will see if it develops coralline. Easy to add and came on time.
Only took a few weeks to starts seeing coralline start popping up.
I started my tank on November 4th, dosed 1 bottle of purple helix and 1 bottle of pink fusion on November 13th during the cycle. The product appears to be a bottle of sea water with some very fine particulate in the bottom of the bottle. They included a brush to clean out the bottles in case any coralline sticks to the plastic, but I didn't notice that. It is December 10th today and I have little purple spots developing throughout the tank. They are faint, but definitely there, about 1-2mm! From past experience, I'm sure in a few weeks they'll be all over. I started with Dry Marcorocks and haven't added any coral yet, just fish and clean up crew. I definitely would say this product works! Giving 4 stars because this product is a little expensive, but I really wanted a variety of pink and purple coralline so I figured I'd give it try since I saved money using dry rock.
I ordered the purple and pink combo about 14 weeks ago, it arrived within a few days in a chilled package. The bottles contents both looked relatively clear save for a little dust in each. I added both bottles to my 40 gallon tank, following the instructions and using the included brush to ensure as many spores as possible made their way to my tank. At the time I added it my tank was about 11 months old and had about 2-3 pea sizeD spots of coraline on the glass. After about 6 weeks I noticed additional spots of coralline starting to appear on my glass, powerheads and return. It was typical purple coraline and my tank being about a year old I wasn’t sure if this was from a couple of tiny spots I had prior to dosing this that had spread or if it was working. I noticed when I turned my lights off that all my rock work was covered in a lime green layer. At week 10 I had countless spots of this purple coraline all over my rock work and tank, and they are constantly doubling in size every 1-2 weeks. Yet the most exciting part is at about week 12 the bright hot pink coraline starting to appear in random spots. This must be from the pink fusion and it looks amazing! It glows bright pink with my lights and I am excited to watch it start to spread. Seeing layers of purple and bright pink coraline is the exact outcome described with this product and what in starting to see! I’m happy to leave this review, excited to watch this progress and encourage everyone considering this product to go for it!
At the time I added this, my 40gal tank was about a year old and my 10gal was a couple months. I added these bottles proportionally between the two tanks. Within a couple months, I noticed coralline patches growing in multiple spots in both tanks, right around the same time. There are multiple types of coralline as well. The thin pink film, the blotchy purple film, and the thick deep purple encrusting type. Very happy with this. Both tanks are starting to look like true reefs now!
This stuff worked well for me, I added it in my new tank. when my parameters were stable a couple of months later coralline:) and I only used half the dose
I ordered the combo pack when I started my new system. It provided some nicely colored coralline algae fairly quickly. Mostly just the purple color, but still a nice color.
Added both bottles and 2 months later nothing yet. All parameters have been normal for reef tank and 10% weekly water changes.
Put product in tank on November 1 and had large patches of purple and pink Coralline algae by December 14
I have a seasoned reef tank that I down sized to 150 gallons. Going with textured ABS bottom I wanted ti grow deep purple rocks. Within 2 months the entire bottom was covered in coralline and rocks are creeping along with growth.
Absolutely zero coralline algae growth from this product. I have strong lighting and stable parameters. Yes I tried it in a 'new tank' (5 months old), but why would you use this in any other situation? Would have been good if they at least included a small chunk of visible coralline; there is nothing visible in the bottle so the presence of actual coralline algae is uncertain.
Got a bottle of purple helix from Algae Barn and added it as per the included instructions. 3 weeks later and I’m seeing spots of coralline popping up on my rock. For what it’s worth, I ordered mine in the heat of Florida summertime, but purchased overnight shipping. I would imagine that speed is important to keep the coralline spores alive in transit as the cold packs were more like “sorta cool” packs after one day in Florida.
I was skeptical. I bought the Coraline bottles to seed my tank expecting it not to work. Surprisingly I started seeing purple dots starting to grow a week after adding the bottles. Shocked. Tank is a 170 G FOWLR @ 78F that had cycled with dry rock for 6 weeks and had fish added for 4 weeks before adding the Coraline.
Apparently shoving a box labeled live animals in a mailbox and not even trying to knock on the door is okay around my city. At least it wasn't fish I guess. I just hope this still works after sitting in the mailbox for 6 hours in 90 degree weather because you do not send notification that the package has been delivered. I may have to find some other way of getting this stuff delivered in a good manor. It isn't even BRS fault or Algae Barn.
For any of you out there checking my name on reviews, you will find this is one of a very few. This product works! Do NOT buy during a time that could potentially cause the product to freeze. Follow the instructions and it is awesome! I have some amazing coralline in the tank and it is thriving. This is not a review after 1 month or 2 month, this review comes at 14 months after introducing this product. I would recommend this product to anyone starting a new tank. I followed the BRS 4 month cycle and introduced this product at the time BRS recommended adding/introducing coralline algae. It took about 2 months for it to really get going but OMG once it did, the pinks and purples were awesome! Now all I have to do is clean the class and boom, more coralline in the water. In fact, this product worked so well, I wish I could limit the amount of coralline in the tank.....especially on pumps. This is an awesome product and anyone saying that unwanted species came into their tank with this product are just trying to find an excuse as to why their tank is not thriving the way they thought it should be. It is just water and spores, that is it!!! You can NOT go wrong with this with!
I will try this product again one more time, but after several months, nothing. Although I believe it to be a problem with shipping I ordered it during the cooler months of the year and afraid it died in transit despite their efforts to keep it warm it was not warm at all when I open the package, it was cool to the touch.
Started with dry rock. After 4 weeks I have spots popping up all over!
I have been reefing for over 20+ years and at first I was skeptical. The first week I got a crazy bloom in bacteria. However now that it has balanced out I now have new strains of not only coraline that I have never seen but also in bacteria, and algae. Keep in mind the pink does seem to prefer no to low light areas. At first I thought it didn't work. but when I cleaned my powerheads I found it behind the magnets, or in dark areas of rockwork. It may even prefer anaerobic but im not sure. none the less 5 of 5. just give it time!
I ordered this from algae barn the day they released it, it came quickly and also had a little pipe cleaner to help scrub the inside of the bottle to get every little bit of coraline algae spores. Took about 4 months and an entire rock is covered in purple and pink coraline,
3rd tank purchasing this for. Follow directions and it does what it’s supposed to. Algae Barn did an awesome job of shipping. Product has expiration date and received it super fast
It’s been maybe 1.5 months since adding a few bottles. I did have some coralline on a few rocks. I added this to speed up growth and add more species. I did bump up my tank temp to about 80 to increase growth also. The black textured abs floor of my bare bottom tank is now covered with spots/ clusters of purple. It is blowing up. Product does what it says.
Followed instructions on the bottle and after 6 weeks i have some good Coralline growth on power heads, overflow, and tiny specs on live rock. Working just how product describes.
After new tank running for 3 months without any indication of coralline I bought the pink and purple kit. In one week we have approximately 30 spots of coralline growing on the bare bottom glass. At first I thought they were snail eggs since we had just added new CUC. Extremely pleased with this purchase!
Added 2 bottles of Pink and 2 bottles of Purple to a new 150 gal BB dry rock system. Started seeing small spots of purple, pink and magenta all over my tank after about 6-8 weeks. Now i'm 12 weeks in and have several small dime size spots. Not the quickest or cheapest but an effective way to introduce a variety of coralline algae to your system. The diversity was worth it to me. Check the bottled date before you use.
I have a 6 month old bare bottom 350 gal tank. After three weeks the dots started forming. After six weeks it’s everywhere. Adheres to plastic (overflows and bottom) first and less on rock.
After 8 weeks I had coraline. After 14 weeks its everywhere. I did add snails encrusted with coraline, so it is possible that was the source, but in my humble opinion, the coraline is from the spores in the bottle. Also, I used a pink and a purple bottle (I have a 75 gallon), and as a result I have BOTH types growing in my tank. I see this as a must-have when starting any future reef tank. One word of caution: buy from a trusted source. This stuff has a shelf life. If the piece of limestone in the bottle doesnt have visible coraline on it, its expired, thus useless.
I have tried this product 2 times with 3 bottles. No Algae except for Green Hair shortly after using. The packaging and info that comes with the product is very nice and informative. I started my reef with carib Sea Liferock and quarantined all my fish. I figure this would be a way to introduce coralline without ich infested water from the LFS. Better off going to the LFS buying some snails with coralline and some pieces of rock and scraping it onto your rocks yourself.
