I love my DOS QD pumps. I have four DOS QDs (eight pump heads) that I've been using for over a year to do things like auto water changes, auto top off, kalkwasser dosing... I have three ro tubing lines coming from my garage, up to the ceiling, over my kitchen and down into my office where the tank is. The DOS pumps handle this with ease. I was going to use one as a feed pump for my Sulfur reactor because this site and Neptunes site claim that there is a new "Continuous Duty" mode. This is not the case. Neptune support informed me that the pump can not run continuously. I had to spend another $350 to get an actual continuous duty pump instead.
This unit is awesome as an automatic water changer! There is a great writeup on R to R on how to set it up and it's easy, so the right pump turns the same way as the calibration procedure. It has been working flawlessly for my setup and never forgets or gets too busy or lazy to change my water. Filling and emptying the reservoirs and you're done! I change 1 1/2 gallons a day and it's plenty of water changed for my 100-gallon system and my corals have never done better. This thing is truly a Game Changer!
I bought for automatic water changes. I wasn't fully trusting in it to do the automatic water changes continuously throughout the week. So I set it up for manual water changes. The idea in mind behind it was great. You have A,B,C & D. You can set each up to do a different volume amount. Which is nice because if you don't have a whole lot of salt water made up but still want to do a small change, you could. To start I had A set up for a 5 gallon and D to do 25 gallons ( i believe it was something like up to 32 gallons within a 24 hrs period. But don't fully remember, haven't used the dose in months and finally getting around to writing review). When you click on water change it will do the water change over the next 24 hrs. I started with 5 gallons water changes on my 200 gallon tank and it seemed to be doing well. However I would not call it quiet drive. I have it secured to a post under my house and I had to place some of the packaging foam to cut back the noise coming up through the floor because it was keeping me up at night ( because no mater the size of water change happens over a 24 hr period. There may be a way to change that but not that I found). Then I set up a 25 gallon setting. Seemed to be going well for a few months until it wasn't. I found that after my 25 gallon water change was completed, I had to manually remove about 7 gallons of extra water from my sump. Then add a little fresh water to compensate for the lack of evaporation/ top off that would have taken place over that 24 hrs. I've recalibrated the unit multiple times but that's not the problem. The problem is when you set it to automatic water change. One pump goes forward and the other one reverses ( So during calibration the right side turns clockwise but during the actual water change it is turning counter clockwise). So I found that it calibrated just fine but when turning backwards it pumps less. Thankfully it was not the other way around or my top off would have been adding an additional 7 gallons of RODI water dropping my salt level and I would not have known. Makes no sense to me why they would have to calibrate the pump it one direction, then make it function in the opposite direction. So now I have a really expensive piece of equipment that just sits there. It may even recommend setting it up this way, but I don't remember. But if you are going to give it a try, make sure that the pump that turns the opposite way is for your waste water. It's a much safer option and good luck/ keep testing your salt level.
Compared to the first model of the Dos, this version is very quiet and just as accurate on the measurements.
Works like it should. Quiet (can't hear it at all).
I've owned dozens of different brands dosing pumps over the years and this one has been the best. I use one for daily 3.5gal water changes and I have another that doses soda ash and 2 gal of kalk daily. I plan on getting a third so I can adjust alk, cal, and mag dosing automatically with the trident. Incredibly silent and accurate!
I have been using a DOS for automatic water changes on my 220 gallon tank and I change about 2L/day. While I could never go back to hauling buckets of water, the DOS was loud for that volume...VERY loud. The QD DOS is everything it is advertised as, I *CANNOT* hear it changing the same volume of water. My only complaint is that in AWC mode you have to change the direction of the lines on the right head making it extra work to calibrate. The original DOS has the same "issue".
Been using it for 3 weeks now and it’s super quiet. Very reliable product. My old Neptune dos is been working since 2017 and all I do is change the heads once a year and calibrate it. Always spot on!
I use this to dose calcium and alk. Super quiet like you wouldnt even know its running
