Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Spheres are a highly efficient biological filter media designed to provide a massive surface area for beneficial bacteria colonization. Created using stabilized microbial sewage treatment technology, these inert ceramic spheres can significantly enhance your aquarium's natural filtration capacity, breaking down ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. This innovative media offers a powerful alternative to traditional live rock, with just ten spheres capable of replacing up to 20 pounds of rock, freeing up valuable space in your sump or display tank.
Each individual sphere features an ultra-high surface area of over 580 square feet, allowing for rapid colonization by essential bacteria. The completely inert ceramic material will not alter your water chemistry or decompose over time, ensuring long-term stability for your system. A single 1 kilogram package contains approximately 40 Bio-Spheres, providing a total surface area of over 25,000 square feet and is capable of treating up to 750 gallons of aquarium water. This compact and potent media can be easily placed in a mesh bag within your sump or filter compartment.
This product is ideal for any saltwater or freshwater aquarist looking to maximize their biological filtration without sacrificing space. It is particularly beneficial for hobbyists with nano tanks, all-in-one systems, or sumps with limited room for traditional filter media or live rock. Aquarists wanting to create a more open aquascape by reducing the amount of rock in their display tank will also find these spheres to be an excellent solution for maintaining a stable and healthy aquatic environment.

These things are top notch, I have a sump with the plastic bio balls and I added these on top, actually twice a 2.2 lb package then a 4.4 lb package a month later. They don't break down even with direct flow on top of them, I do however put a filter floss over top my old 2 chamber sump. I highly recommend these to anyone, the water is much clearer with these in my sump
I wish this should have been purchased day one. Keeps the bioload down
I use the bio blocks and bio spheres in both my tanks ,,long lasting clean products that help keep parameters in line
Purchased this for my Lagoon 25, the price and the quality is top notch. I still have half of it left and I can always use it on a different tank
These bioballs are awesome and won’t break down! Definitely a great addition to any aquarium, especially reef tanks with less rock.
The balls are extremely rigid and don’t start breaking down if you look at them the wrong way! Currently have them in my filter cups (not socks) so they’re in a high flow area! I’ve put some filter floss right over them that I change out every few days just to give them a little coverage! Other than that they are rocking and rolling!
I had high Nitrates in my 150 G, tried a refug, filtration and a protein skimmer with limited success. Added these to my tank sump and after 3 months I saw a 10-fold reduction 4 PPM to 0.4 PPM. I removed my skimmer and added a a small filtration unit. I have also noticed my water clarity improve.
I love these they don't break down over time
