Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Blocks are a highly efficient biological filter media designed to replace large quantities of live rock in both freshwater and marine aquariums. Utilizing stabilized microbial sewage treatment technology, these inert ceramic blocks provide an enormous surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize. This bacteria rapidly breaks down ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, creating a stable and healthy aquatic environment with a significantly smaller footprint than traditional filtration methods.
Each package contains two 4" x 4" x 1" blocks, which are completely inert and will not alter your water chemistry. A single block boasts an ultra-high surface area of over 11,635 square feet, capable of replacing up to 20 pounds of live rock. The stable ceramic base is designed to last indefinitely without decomposing over time, offering a permanent solution for your sump or filter. The total surface area per two-piece package can treat up to 750 gallons of water.
This product is ideal for aquarists seeking to maximize their biological filtration capacity, especially those with limited sump space or who prefer a minimalist aquascape. By reducing the reliance on live rock, hobbyists can create more open swimming areas for fish and better placement for corals. It's a perfect choice for reef keepers, fish-only saltwater enthusiasts, and freshwater aquarists who want powerful, compact, and long-lasting biological filtration.

Works amazon, I started with 2 packs or 4 blocks on my 150 then got another pack and placed 1 in my 150 and another in my nano tank 15g. The 15g I took from my old tank to instant cycle my 15g. Saves a ton of space compared to the bio spheres and cylinders
I have 2 IM 25 lagoons and use these blocks in mesh bags,I saw them halfway and tap with a rubber hammer and they break in half I use 6 total 3×8 tideline mesh bags.4 bags have 12 maxspect spheres and 2 bags have half a block and 6 spheres ,3 bags in each chambers ,,the bags stand straight up and down from the surface to the bottom allowing superior flow thru and super easy weekly checks
Truthfully I feel it’s worth every penny and freed up space in my sump would definitely buy again
I have been using these for about a year now, and they seem to work well. The blocks are well-made and easy to clean. I have four in my 10-gallon sump for a 55-gallon tank, and the parameters always stay stable. These blocks replaced my older wet-dry filter, which worked well but required more maintenance.
I gave it a try. I have an established 54 gallon tank without any issues for many years. Added these bio blocks to try and my tank is still running as good as before. But deep in my heart it made me feel a little better lol
I have had these in my sump for over 2 years. They are porous and very sturdy. I have had zero crumbling or breakage at all. They come in very nice packaging and have a very small and compact footprint. After two years I adjusted them in the middle compartment of my sump and they were as sturdy as they were when new. I would definitely recommend these.
