Researching bacterial products to increase biome many months ago, I found a video of someone that either worked for, or owned, Brightwell Aquatics, claiming this will "fizzle away your bubble algae". He stated in the video, "Just get in there & scrape & pop all that you can, dose MB Clean & it will eat it all up". I've had SW tanks half my life & I've come to learn some will claim just about anything to sell their products & get your money. But Brightwell? Are they now stooping to such depths also? Such a wild boast actually turned me off & I didn't buy it. Fast forward several months & I now have some bubble algae in some really tough spots to remove. I looked all over for the video I saw months back and cannot find it to save my damn life! So I bought some anyway & did exactly what that guy in that video said. For the last 6 weeks, every Sunday, I use picks & tools to get in every crevase & pop every single Valonia that I can in a section of the tank, change 25g & dose double the amount on the bottle (skimmer & uv off for 24 hrs). The next day the casings start to loosen & detach (some of it you have to get in there with the scraper & help it along). After 2-3 days the ones I popped are all in the filter sock & have not started to grow back in those areas. I'm quite shocked at how well this is working and expect it to be gone in all visible areas after I do the last few patches this weekend. A totally awesome side effect is glass cleaning. I used to have to clean glass for sure every other day, sometimes every day. Now I'm doing it twice per week! On Sunday & Wednesday. That's it! Great product & once im done with the Valonia popping I will continue to buy & do a maintenence dose so I don't have to clean glass every single day.
Green algae is my issue, a regiment of bi-weeklyrock work cleaning ,reducing lighting and feeding and a 20% weekly water change and gravel vac have reduced the issues about 90 %,,,100% in my other gonna try the Razor product together soon. Bit it took 2 months and I'm so pleased
This product is very useful. I use it in my doser during times of heavy algae outbreaks. I also added occasionally when everything is going well. The product does exactly what it should.
My tank is in year one and I've had a continous battle with hair algae. This stuff gently beats it back over the course of a few weeks until it all gradually goes away. Really appreciate it not being a "hammer" product as my fish and corals are completely uneffected by it. Using it along side Microbacter Razor will yeild mind blowing results.
My thirteen year old Red Sea Max 250 has been plagued by bubble algae for well over a year. I tried Brightwell's MicroBacter CLEAN along with Razor Marine, not fully confident that they would work. Instructions for dosing of each are quite specific, and I followed them to the letter. Results were incredible: after less than three weeks of use, the bubble algae have totally disappeared.
I use this product along with carbon dosing from tropic marine. I’ve been battling Dino’s brown hair algae and bubble algae all at once since I used ocean rock with no black out. This took care of all this stuff and my tank looks so clean. Make sure to do exactly as instructions say don’t just dump straight from bottle.
Initially started using this in conjunction with Brightwell Aquatics Razor to fight off Red Turf Algae outbreak that was on the verge of taking over my 90 gal tank. After contacting BA about the product, I received a phone call from Dr. Kent (co-founder of BA, also founder of Kent Marine!), the best 20 min customer service call back on a reefing product I've ever received! I used MB Clean as directed with Razor and was rid of Red Turf Algae in two weeks. 18 months later I still have no RTA. I still maintenance dose MicroBacter Clean weekly as directed (20ml/25 gal volume). I can definitely tell when I skip a week. Not sure what goes on at the microscopic level, but at the human eye level the heterotrophic bacteria I'm adding seem to be taking care of business in the Biome Battle Royale. Highly recommended product!
This stuff is amazing. I battled with Dino's for months and tried every remedy in the book with no success. Finally I used a treatment product for the dinos that worked, but then paved the way for massive amounts of cyanobacteria to overtake once the dinos were dead. To combat that, I purchased 35 pounds of premium gulf of mexico live rock to increase my biodiversity and also started dosing MicroBacter Clean. After looking at a hideous tank for months, in just about 2 weeks of dosing this stuff, almost ALL of the cyano is gone. Hopefully now the good bacteria from the live rock and MicroBacter as well as the coralline algae are flourishing and outcompeting the nuisance cyano/dinos.
I'm always skeptical about getting sucked in to another bottle of snake oil, but this works. I used this in conjunction with Brightwell Aquatics Razor to get rid of Red Turf Algae. Now I add weekly to keep heterotrophic bacteria population up, in turn keeping other nuisance bacteria and algae in check. Great stuff!
