The Maxspect JUMP SK400 is an innovative protein skimmer designed to efficiently remove dissolved organic compounds from saltwater reef aquariums. It utilizes a patented dual water inlet and dual needle wheel system, which draws water from both sides of the skimmer body. This unique design works to create exceptionally fine and dense microbubbles, significantly increasing the surface area available for waste collection and resulting in superior nutrient export and clearer water for a healthier reef ecosystem.
This skimmer is packed with advanced features for performance and safety, all powered by a quiet and controllable DC pump. Key specifications include a compact 7.75" x 7.75" footprint, a height of 21.75", and an optimal operating water depth of 7 to 8.5 inches. Smart controls allow for pump speed adjustment and a convenient 600-second feed mode. An integrated overflow sensor in the collection cup provides crucial protection by automatically shutting off the pump if the cup fills, preventing messy spills and resuming operation after a 10-second delay once corrected.
The Maxspect JUMP SK400 is an ideal choice for aquarists managing reef tanks from 100 to 265 gallons, with specific ratings for heavy (100 gal), medium (175 gal), and light (265 gal) bioloads. Its combination of an affordable price point, near-silent operation, easy maintenance, and smart safety features makes it a fantastic option for both new and experienced hobbyists seeking a reliable and effective filtration solution without compromising on quality or control.

When it worked it works great, first one had to be replaced as it didn't work out bifocal box, second one has worked until just after the 90 day warranty. Taken apart cleaned, sounds like something is blocked but nothing, will start great then fizzlemout within a minute, same as the first one.
Absolutely loved this skimmer when I got it. Great size, near silent, loved the auto shut off feature. Less than 2 years later, the bearing failed and destroyed the motor housing. It started getting louder and louder until I could no longer run it, took it apart to see the rotor had so much play and had torn up the whole housing. Not happy this lasted less than two years. I have a Maxspect jump DC pump that has been running flawlessly for 6 years so I thought I could trust this brand.
Started off great. Quiet and the level and flow control was great. Three weeks later I noticed a slight wine that turned into a loud hum. The impeller magnet was grinding itself to nothing. BRS tried to help by sending replacement parts that just repeated the malfunction. This just a bad design! So I am left with this beautiful 3 ft tall paper weight. $400 for a skimmer that lasted 3 weeks. I get sick in the stomach every time i see it setting in its box. $400! I find it hard to even look a ads from BRS at this point. Don't buy this Skimmer!
I bought mine when they first came out. I have been in the hobby for decades and have tried many different skimmer brands. This is the best value I have come across. The skimmer is easy to set-up and it is easy to clean. It is very quiet. The controller is very easy to use, unlike the gyre controller. I did add a float switch to the sump to turn off the skimmer if the water level is too high, which prevents the skimmer from overflowing. The skimmer cup float value is up too high to turn off when it should. The skimmer cup ring does need some good lube or it is very difficult to remove. Skimmer cup is very easy to clean when using an alloy wheel cleaning tool. This is a very reliable skimmer. In the past, I would be on my second or third skimmer by now, or spending a bunch of money on repairs. I have heard that the customer service is terrible, but I have never had to contact them for service.
Skimmer does not work as I hoped. Foam is very light in skimmer body and rises more than 3/4 of the way up with very light bubbles and mostly water…. it has been running for several months, so I know it is broken in. I have taken it apart numerous times thinking impellers are clogged and not allowing proper air draw, but they are fine…. I also purchased the 800 which works very well and produces a lot of dark waste….. the foam in the body of the skimmers between the two is totally different. I will be in touch with bulk reef, and I’ve asked them a question on if impellers have been updated or if there has been issues…. With my luck, cause that’s the way it goes. I bought a defective unit….lol…(not)
Why did I buy it: I purchased the Jump SK400 in Sept 2023. I bought it as a replacement for my old Skimz skimmer - the impeller went bad on the Skimz and I couldn't find a replacement part and they are OOB now. My Review: I run this on my 125g mixed reef and this SK400 is nearly PERFECT! It was super easy to assemble, and it is also super easy to disassemble. I LOVE the drain tube and valve on the collection cup! Why didn't I think of this for my old skimmer? DOH. The collection cup fits quite snug into the skimmer body and takes some force to remove, which is fine because I only need to remove the collection cup about 1x a month to clean the neck and insides from skimmate buildup. The overflow shut off float switch is AWESOME! It has SAVED my @$&. LOL. I can't begin to count how many times my old skimmer would overflow the skimmate back into the tank because of my negligence or water level changes. No more of that! I rated this 5 stars but honestly it's a 9 out of 10 for me. Why? Because the pause interval on this skimmer is only 10 minutes, or off completely. My return pump has pause intervals of 15 and 60 minutes. I want them to match. If I could reprogram this skimmer to pause for 15 minutes to match my return pump I would rate this a 10/10. Outside of that one small change, I highly recommend this. This review is at the 3 month mark of use, the long term review could change. Side note - I have a Triton 44 v1 sump so I had to buy a stand for this skimmer to sit on, to get the water level height where I needed it to be.
By far the best. And I have owned ALOT of skimmers. Super quite and efficient.
