After 2 years of fighting with the dongle that disconnected from my internet at every slight interruption and wouldn’t reconnect without way to much screwing around. I ditched it and got the controller. I mean really how often do you change your light settings anyway once you have it where your corals are happy. I’m much less frustrated with this set it and forget it system. Only thing I will say , and my reasoning for 4 stars instead of 5 is I wish they would have printed right out of the box on the set up instructions that the first thing you need to do is go into demo and switch to manual. It won’t save any changes you make until you do that!! I learned that the hard way after a week of screwing around with it until I decided to watch the YouTube set up video all the way through. They don’t tell you that until the very end of the video. But now it’s working great! Hopefully someone will read this at Kessil and they will print that on their set up instructions!
Super easy to setup, easy to program lights, and get the party going! Love it!!
I bought this to control the A80 Tuna Blue. After 3 years of turning the light on and off manually every day, I realize how much better life is with the controller. For the same price as Tuna A80 and controller you can get an AI Prime HD however I figured that was over kill for a 4 gallon nano and liked the small minimalist format of the A80 LED. Setup took only a few minutes of figuring out the touch pad and cycling through the menus. The 0-10v cable supplied connects directly to the A80 input jack and I used a 5v 1a charge plug from an old cell phone to power the controller. I set the schedule program to start at noon and slowly ramp up to 80% intensity with 20% color by 6p and then ramp back down to zero for 11pm bedtime. Overall happy with the purchase and recommend to anyone with a Kessil 0-10v LED that wants to make life easier by having the lighting on their tank operate automatically!!
I use it for my 2 kessil a160tb's and it is fantastic. Can control color and intensity add in reds and violets and yellows and set a schedule that mimiks sun up to sun down. Before i had this i really had no idea where my color or intensity was with the little knobs and my light would just kick on bam leaving corals in kind of shocked state. Now it ramps from 1% intensity to 60 and from 1 color to 30. It is a little hard to figure out at first. I left my light on the whole first night cuz i did it wrong and my corals were totally freaked out. Closed up for 2 days. But have been using it a few weeks since then and it great
When one of the Kessil A360Ws we've had quit working after almost 6 years, I was bummed that we had to buy a new controller since the new 360X isn't compatible with the old controller, but the new controller has more to offer... I can tweak the violet, red and green which brought a whole new look to the corals. And it has a moonlight mode. And there are other things on it that I haven't played with yet. Yes, programming it isn't super easy but it's not bad, especially when you've had the old one. I don't use my phone to control or monitor the tank so this works great for me. I've got the new 360X plugged into one port and the old A360W plugged into another port on it.
Worked fine when it actually worked. Stuck on saying, "No Bulbs Detected". I tried everything including installing an old update and reinstalling the new one. Called Kessil. Was on hold a lot. They informed me they weren't going to replace it and assured me it was user error. It's not. I own a pet store and have thousands of dollars invested into their lights. They wouldn't replace a $100 add on that should have been built into their light in the first place. Moving to a different company for lights now.
I have G5 Radions on my big tank and really want a Kessil for a nano I’m putting in my bedroom. By the time I buy everything to connect this light with this controller I’m at almost $600 for one light? I’m including the hanging kit or arm as well. I can’t believe they’re making you buy an extra controller. I’ve been debating all day and come to find out most don’t have a moonlight option? Too much work and too much money for me, very disappointed. None of the other top brand lights make you buy a Wi-Fi dongle or controller hopefully they wake up and realize this or they will be out of the loop. They just lost me.
WiFi and Bluetooth controllers are all terrible. This works 100% of the time when hardwired and no Radion or AI can say that. It’s not as glamorous as a phone app, but who cares?
I was skeptical before buying based on some of the reviews, but I am glad I did. I bought it specifically for my A360X and i have to say it has been money well spent. Feels well constructed and being able to create custom light schedules makes this controller well worth it. It's pretty much set it and forget it. Cons: Had a bit of difficulty learning the GUI interface and customizing the light initially, so Kessil has room for improvement in their instruction manual. A back-light on the controller would be a nice to have, since i found myself tweaking the controller at night and I can't get a tactile feel on the controller since it lacks physical buttons.
This is one of those rare aquarium products that you actually feel is worth what you’re paying for it. It looks nice, the quality feels great, and the buttons and screen are responsive. The single USB-C from the light to power the unit is awesome and means you can easily mount it to your hood if you want without running additional power. The 10’ cable it comes with is convenient as well. I’ve posted it elsewhere and I’ll post it here too: You can use generic USB-C cables of any length to connect your lights. I was able to get 3, 3’ cables and 90 deg adapters for very cheap on an online box store. You do NOT have to use the Kessil cable. When I researched lighting my new tank it became apparent that I was guilty of tweaking the lights daily or weekly in the past. The EcoSmart Live and Radion make it too easy (and maybe too fun). I don’t tweak salinity or temperature every day, why do I think tweaking the lights is a good idea? The reality is that setting your lights and leaving them alone is what’s best for your tank. Play and tweak while the tank is cycling then commit to a schedule and stick with it. Bluetooth and Wifi just aren’t necessary for this process. There is a learning curve to the controller. It is not as easy or customizable as the Radions and EcoSmart Live. That being said, it took me, an old person, 5 minutes to set a day schedule with an afternoon peak as well as a red moonlight setup. It’s just not that hard and while it isn’t super easy to go back and tweak, maybe that’s a good thing.
Come up guys, you have experienced so much WiFi issues with your AI, Apex, Amazon Alexa etc. The wired connection is just the safest way to do it, no doubt about that. I understand their logic, a separate WiFi dongle to avoid interference. Just wish the WiFi Dongle can come out earlier. The controller itself is good to use, you can control the additional colors and programming the eight points are not that hard. Same concept as the previous controller, if you are new, true that there is some learning but nothing hard.
Firstly, that reviewer Josh seems to be reviewing the concept of a physical controller vs phone/tablet app, rather than this light controller itself. Works just like the previous generation controller, but they allow you to mess with other colors like red and purple, which might be too much power for tinkerers. Overall nice, but having to spend 100 bucks to control the light you just spent 450 bucks on is tough.
This controller is anything but intuitive and there are no worthwhile instructions available for it. You can download the 'user's manual' from Kessil's website but it's too vague to be of any practical use. So frustrating. For such an expensive light / controller combo, produced by a tech savvy company, this controller is a sad disappointment. I agree with the previous reviewer, Kessil could have done much better with an app driven control system for the new A360X LED Light.
Total waste of money. They need a phone app for all their lights not just AP700’s, keep up with the times kessil.
For 100 dollars, this doesnt offer much. They could have got rid of the display and touch controls, installed bluetooth, and created a phone app. It would be much cheaper and a lot better.
In the description it says “all A360” lights yet it doesn’t work with the A360WE. Buyer beware.
