Once you finally set up the WiFi. The interesting part begins. Luckily Grok 3 AI really helps. State your tank size and equipment with type of corals. It makes great starting points. I love the idea violet percentage follows the intensity percentage as you up ramp and down ramp to your photoperiod. The Kessil logic keeps in in the color spectrum sweet spot (400-500) with other channels helping human observer aesthetics. Intensity in the 50%-70% depending on PAR. The bluer looks bluer as approach 0% contrary to what you may think. So far the lights are great. The app could be improved. Probably a little better than Spectral X plug in.

I'm normally a huge Kessil fan, but this light just doesn't have the longevity. I have 2 on my 220 gallon reef and have one bulb fail from overheating between the 4 every year. Thankfully their support/RMA process has gotten everything replaced and taken care of, but it's just annoying to have to replace a whole fixture every year. (Yes, I did all the normal recommended maintenance and cleaning. The compact design just doesn't handle heat or dust for low maintenance and long life.) Another one failed 2 days ago so I'm changing brands for my main lights. Just too tired of the swaps.

It would have been nice for them to include the mini Allen wrench needed to mount the light considering the huge price tag. I had to rummage around in boxes of old Kessil equipment to find an old one. Beyond that, I only bought these because their new app doesn't seem to support the old AP700's I have, turning them into expensive paperweights. Finally, for almost $900, they could include an instruction book instead of making me download something on my phone (which wasn't helpful anyways). I hope saving $1 was worth the aggravation to your customers.

As most in the reviews wrote it's hit or miss with the wifi setup. One of my lights connected immediately and the other needed to be reset multiple times to connect. Once connected though, I have had zero issues with connectivity. Second, you can use the preset schedule with great success but let's be honest, tanks come in all types of shapes and sizes so you may need to tweak to get right for your aquarium. Cool thing is you will only need to adjust a couple of colors/intensity. The light spectrum most needed for coral health will not change. Unfortunately, there is not much out there on that and community apps don't seem to have many folks offering up great settings. Mine was trial and error on my Frag 105.5 mixed reef system. The lights do look great, corals look amazing (not excellent growth yet but pretty good). I think these are really all you would need to keep a reef happy and healthy BUT if I could start again I would have these partnered up with a T5 hybrid for maximum growth. Great light, very happy with my purchase.

Upgraded to two of these from G4s. Whoa. Par at the top of my tank is 600. Stunning shimmer, decent app (Wi-Fi is kinda klunky). Giving it 4 stars because few items really deserve 5…but these are close. Great value.

Had a little trouble getting Wi-Fi connected but once that was done, off to the races. This is great product I have one over my 40g breeder (spread is almost custom made for it). All the corals are happy 1 months in, and it is super easy to program, then just try not to adjust it all the time

I came from the ecotech marine most expensive lights, and right away I noticed my corals are a little more perky with this Kessil. The shimmer is better, and along with the app the lights work without issues. I switched and I am not going back. These are just better hands down.

First off I want to say if any product on this website deserves 5 stars it’s this light, when I first set up my reef tank I was coming from freshwater so I didn’t understand the importance of a good light, I purchased 2 of the 165 watt “black boxes” and after cycling my tank I put corals in of course, I had nothing but problem after problem, no matter what I did all my corals would die, I probably lost a good 3000$ workforce corals before I figured out it was those stupid lights melting my corals, I tried everything with those lights they were 30 inches above my tank and set to the lowest setting but they still melted everything living in my tank besides algae, so I purchased one of these for my tank (all the money I had at the time) it was the most expensive thing I had ever purchased for a aquarium before, I thought that it was way overpriced and that “it’s just a light it shouldn’t be that expensive” well let’s just say that very day I added this light my corals already looked better than they ever did, and by the end of the first week all the corals I had were open and fully extended with nice bright colors on them, so I kept the light as it was and after a few months my corals were flourishing and growing faster than ever, it has now been 6 months and most of my aqua scape is covered in corals, I even purchased a second one of these to add since my tank had so many high demand corals now, if it wasn’t for this light I wouldn’t be in the hobby, I was only a few days away from completely tearing down my tank and giving up but as a last ditch effort I tried this light and I am very glad I did, I will always only buy kessil lights from now on and when someone asks for advice on a good light I always point them to this one.

I dreadfully gave up my Aquatic Life T5 8 bulb fixture many years ago. It was a slice of sun that grew coral as fast as weeds grow in my yard. A fragged monti grew to the size of a pumpkin, up to the rim of a 90 gallon deep tank. Seeing the entire industry switch over to led was depressing. Now, three led light sets later and lots of lost coral, was about to bite the bullet and buy an ATI since they are the only ones left. Figured I'd go for the AP9X (only one) and BAM!!!! Clean, crisp, non "disco" blue, uniform light with an amazing shimmer. 6 new polyps in a couple weeks on the dying Australian brain coral, 3 new branches starting on the hammer! Back in business, I think it's time for another monti frag.

I have to say this light is by far the best light I have ever used. I've used multiple other brands throughout the years and none of them can recreate the shimmer or beautiful look that this brand offers. If you're looking for a light this is the brand to go with! Their customer support is wonderful as well. Very quick with their emails and when you call you actually get a human!

The light produced by this fixture is beautiful, best I have seen. The fixture is very quiet if not silent. Looks great on Red Sea Reef 250 and single light solution for anything you want. Decided to get the AP9X after having good luck on my A360X unit. Absolutely don't regret it. It's a powerhouse of a light. I actually rarely run it above about 60% as it's over a 3' tank with a bunch of SPS at the top and LPS and soft corals at the bottom. App control was easy to set up. Scanned the QR code, entered my password, and then it connected. I got a new phone and was able to just quick reload instead of resetting everything which was nice too

The light is great and wifi works well also. Not sure what Michael is talking about with no 5g wifi? The AP9X will connect to 5g wifi with APP right out of the box. The wifi Dongle will not!

I love Kessil lights and bought two AP9X fixtures. Almost went with two new Radion XR30 G5 blues but I love the shimmer and spectrum from Kessil. The lights work great most of the time, PAR and spread is more than adequate for my needs and corals seem to love them, but the app could be a bit more intuitive and I’ve had a couple issues in the three weeks I’ve owned them with one fixture at a time falling off the app and had trouble getting the light back into the group as though it is no longer connected to the Wifi. I found the only way to get it back into the group was to unplug the light and plug it back in. Not the troubles I was looking for with a top of the line LED. Hopefully a new firmware update can correct these connectivity issues. 4/5 for now.

I usually don’t write any reviews but i figured anyone who is thinking about spending over $800 on this led light would appreciate some hands on experience other than the product videos out right now and hopefully ill answer any questions you might possibly have on it. Ive been researching lighting solutions to replace my old Coralife T5 HO fixture for months on my 150g tall. I was thinking of getting a couple of Kessil a360 or XR15s, for the same price, and the Aquatic life T5 hybrid fixture and stumbled upon the AP9X on its release date. I decided to try it out after a few days of limited research. I went with the Aquatic life T5 hybrid with the AP9X in the middle; mounted them at 12” above the water. That was a recommendation from Kessil. My tank is a mixed reef that measures 48” across and 30” deep and 24” wide. It handles it no prob. It’s a pretty powerful lightweight led light. When turning it on to set it up, try not to have it on top of any surfaces because the lamps can give off a ton of heat and possibly burn through your surface at that distance. The cord it comes with is a decent length. The power brick was larger than expected. For those who want to know or are mounting it, it measures 9” by almost 3”. Also, It comes with hanging clips but does not include the mounting wire. Setting it up through the app was pretty straight forward. Just follow the directions. It has a tuna blue preset for it and you can control any of the other lights Kessil makes as well; in a group or solo. Creating a custom setup was pretty easy as well. Some of the effects you’re able to simulate in your program are Storm, Cloud, Aurora and Rainbow. you can set them from 0.5 to 5 mins and 3 speed settings. It also has a built-in lunar cycle which you can set the start and end time. Im testing out having mine ramp up and down for 12hrs at 80% the max and T5s on for about 6hrs throughout the day. It’s a beautiful piece of tech. worth the money. I noticed an immediate difference in coral color pop and polyp extension. I can make it look just like the LFS. And as always, Kessil never disappoints in the smooth shimmer effect. I did not notice any disco ball effect.
