Recently bought two at the suggestion of staff. told him it was a 40 gallon breeder mainly soft coral. Lik other reviews it does make the water shimmer but I do not think it is enough light for an 18 inch deep tank
I keep both a nano planted freshwater, and a nano reef tank -- the FW is heavily planted with 3 Indian dwarf puffers, and I'm constantly adding more plants b/c the puffers benefit from really reducing their line of sight (keeps them from chasing and nipping e/o). Bought this light to upgrade from a cheap one I'd been using, knowing from the SW side that Kessil makes great lights. I'm so happy with it! The tank looks just beautiful under it -- beautiful color and shimmer, makes the driftwood and plants really pop. Definitely an upgrade from what the plants were growing under before so I'm expecting to see them looking even happier than they had been.
Is This light good for Fresh Plants?
I bought this for my son's freshwater tank knowing kessil can grow coral. Surprise surprise, it grows freshwater plant too. And man do they grow. I went to move a few around and they were pretty rooted so i know the spectrum is perfect for growing. The light comes out white, which shows the greens of the plants as intended. I'd buy another one if I ever decide to get a bigger freshwater setup
Using the tuna blue over my reef nano tanks, so thought I'd try the tuna sun over my freshwater planted nano. Nice light. Plenty of power for a small tank and grows plants just fine.
I bought this light to place in my refugium to grow chaetomorpha. It has not done that well at all. I am not sure if it would make a great light for other purposes.
It's actually very easy to be "green" with this energy efficient, and very bright, adjustable, daylight spectrum Kessil LED lamp. Combine it with some of the nano watt smaller filters (some as low as 4 watts) and of course the smaller heaters (where required) and enjoy all the beauty of the larger aquariums, of course on a smaller scale, and use only pennies of electricity usage per day.
