The Kessil A160WE Tuna Sun LED Light is a compact, controllable lighting solution designed to bring the natural beauty of the ocean's shimmer to your aquarium. Leveraging Kessil's patented Dense Matrix LED technology, it tightly packs numerous LEDs with multiple colors and wavelengths onto a single chip, producing an exceptional, natural-looking lighting effect that rivals traditional metal halide lamps. This advanced design ensures you can observe the intricate shadows of fish as they swim, mimicking a truly natural aquatic environment.
This sophisticated LED fixture offers a tunable spectrum from 6,000K to 9,000K, making it ideal for promoting fast growth and vibrant coloration in aquatic plants. With Kessil Logic, users can independently adjust color on one channel and intensity on the other, providing precise control over the light output. The A160WE Tuna Sun is compatible with external 0-10V controllers like the Kessil Spectral Controller, Neptune Apex, and Digital Aquatics Reefkeeper, alongside its onboard controls. It boasts a quiet operation, an advanced heat management system for efficiency, and includes a proprietary blend of precision UV light to enhance plant health and color. With a power consumption of 40W, it provides coverage up to 24 inches by 24 inches.
The Kessil A160WE Tuna Sun is perfectly suited for nano and pico freshwater aquariums, as well as refugiums, where its specialized spectrum excels at fostering robust plant growth and enhancing natural coloration. Its compact pendant design and easy mounting options, such as the Kessil A-series gooseneck, make it a convenient and powerful choice for smaller setups. For aquarists seeking a high-performance, energy-efficient light with an unparalleled shimmer effect for their freshwater planted tanks or refugiums, the Tuna Sun delivers professional-grade results.

I installed this light on my fuge when I set up my system 2 yrs ago, Its has grown the cheato and mangrove plants in my fuge like crazy. I see a lot new fuge ligts on the market now push the red and blue colors. Almost pulled the plug to buy one of the new lights a couple times, glad I didn't. BRS did a invest on the growth rate of several different light but didn't include this one. I can say this light works and works great without that ugly red color.
I have two A160we tuna sun's over a 75gallon fresh water planted tank. I absolutely love them. Great color and great shimmer. Just like metal halide without the downsides. Fantastic lights and quick shipping form BRS
The light worked very well... for four days. Then the manual controls ceased all function. E-mailed BRS to enlist their help getting the unit replaced. Never received a reply or any aid. Currently working with the manufacturer. Will update review if the replacement works. Customer service from BRS was lacking. Not the best first time purchase experience.
I bought this light for my fuge. Hooked up to Apex, it allows for nice range of intensity and spectrum.
I was worried at first because I called up kessil HQ and they recommended a360we for my 30 gallon (24 x 24 x 12) shallow tank. When the a160we arrived I was very impressed. More than enough par for my corals I will probably max it at 80%. Great spread for about 20 x 20. The sides of the tank were still illuminated but not as strong. Good for corals that require low light. I'm very satisfied with my purchase the blue spectrum is amazing.
I installed 2 of these on my 65 gallon reef tank and they are great. I had to turn the intensity down on them because they were so bright. Corals are doing great with them compared to the other LED light I had before.
I purchased 2 of the tuna blue along with the spectral controller. I love the light they give off it is very much like natural light. There is no random red or green spots in the tank like my old lights. I have them over my 125. Two work for now because I only have coral in two location on rock islands. Each light hangs directly over one of the islands. My original plan was to supplement these with my old LEDs but frankly they look horrible compared to the kessils. As a result I will be purchasing another two in the near future.
This light gives you all control. With the tuning knobs and the kessil controller you can completely control your led lights with simplicity.
ordered this through the site from my lfs the shimmer effect is the best ive seen brs tvs youtube channels review is what really made me want to see them for myself could not be any happier next day shipping was deff worth and was super fast
I have this light over a 12 gallon nano and it is more than enough to keep my corals happy.
Love this light. Just put over a 5 year old JBJ 28 nano which I took the original top off of and replaced with a DIY screen top (screen courtesy of BRS). The knobs for intensity and color work well and give a wide range of options. I’ve opted to control my light with Kessil’s spectral controller and it works perfectly for what I need…..lights on low and in blue in the early A.M., ramping up to full spectrum by noon and back to blue at bedtime. Fish love it, corals love and I love it!
I have 2 of the Tuna Blue 160s over a 56 gallon column. Combined with the controller, it produces an amazing shimmer and my corals respond well. It does grow SPS in the upper portion of the tank. Downside is the price of the accessories. Goosenecks, data cables, 90 degree adapters add up. Be sure to include these in the cost to weigh you options!
This light is over my new sump refugium. I can't believe how much par this compact little light gives off. The colors it enhances are amazing! It lights up my dragon's breath flame algae and really makes its color pop! I would easily put one of these in a display tank.
Overall, I am VERY impressed with these lights. The shimmer and color is just amazing! Only thing I would suggest to Kessil is that they need to come up with a cleaner cable management solution.
Put the 160WE Tuna Sun over my sump refugium. Love the spectrum control and my fuge shimmers and is growing chaeto like crazy. Tiny little light and really puts out some PAR.
So because you didn't properly acclimate your Coral you gave this Light a Bad Review? This light is awesome do not believe what the other guy said.
These lights are everything I hoped for. They adjust from 20k to 10k Kelvin, which is exactly what i wanted so i could choose the color I wanted. I have two of them over a 90G FOWLR tank so in my case the intensity is pretty good but for a reef in this tank size I would go with the larger units or put at least 4 of these over the tank. I have no idea what the PAR is so even 4 may not be enough intensity over a taller tank. I also bought the controller, which is what I would consider a must-have with these lights now that I have one. True, you can operate the lights without it but for the price (~$100) why wouldn't you get a cool looking gadget to do that for you? :) These units produce MORE than enough light for a nano tank so I don't believe they were the cause of the frag demise in the other review.
So I put this on my new 7 gallon nano to see how it worked. I have had it on there from the day it came out. I put a small drag of green slimmer from my larger tank and it completely browned out with lights at full intencity. And yes I did slowly ramp the lights up every week.
