The Hydra 32 HD LED Reef Light in a sleek black body represents a new generation of aquarium lighting designed for saltwater reef ecosystems. This advanced fixture delivers enhanced power and improved light spread while promoting healthy coral growth throughout your tank. It serves as a primary illumination source that mimics natural solar conditions without compromising on efficiency or thermal management.
Equipped with thirty two high performance LEDs this unit offers a wider spectrum through multiple channels including a dedicated moonlight channel for simulating lunar cycles. The thinner form factor reduces its profile over the aquarium while improved optic design ensures better water resistance against moisture environments. Users can easily manage settings like sunrise and sunset simulation via Bluetooth control using the MyAI app with power consumption rated at 90 watts.
This lighting solution is ideal for hobbyists seeking a reliable and aesthetically pleasing pendant light for medium sized saltwater aquariums. It benefits reef keepers who require precise control over their lighting spectrum to boost fluorescence and support photosynthetic organisms without compromising on energy efficiency or hardware longevity. Whether you are maintaining an SPS or LPS dominated system this fixture provides the necessary intensity and customization needed for a thriving underwater display.

I added three of these over a 90 gallon mixed reef and it has never looked better. After three months, my corals are growing faster and their colors are more vivid than before. I love how quiet these are.
I have 4 hydras over my 5 foot tank with t5. Have had these for 2 years or alittle longer. Just changed out the lenses due to melting. I only had these set for no more then 80 on the app. They ran at 38 Watts give or take. When I went to change my lenses it looks like the uv and purple are burnt out on 3 of these hydra. Now the blue color is starting to look different on every light. So for 400 bucks they should last longer then 2 years I would say. Looking at radions now or apex skys
Im very torn about these lights. The lights themselves are amazing. Theyre bright and have all the spectrum you could possibly need and ALL the photosynthetic things in my tank love them. However, the connectivity is horrid. i have 2 for my set up and the app refuses to connect to both simultaneously. Every day when i come from work they're out of sync or in todays case, one was off completely. it constantly tells me "BLE failed to connect" when i try to set up schedules or when i tried to turn the light on just now. Its not the hardware because it happens to both lights and the one thats been "chosen" will work perfectly. I picked these lights because i read great reviews and its disappointing to, not just be having issues, but constant and severe connectivity issues. If not for the apps BLE issues i would easily give them 5 stars.
I have (2) of these lights over my WaterBox Marine X Peninsula 4820. In case you didn’t guess it, the tank is 48”L x 20”W. I believe the tank is 21” tall, and I have the lights mounted on an HMS rail, about 8-9” off the surface of the water, which means the lights are between 28”-30” from the bottom of the tank. These two lights legitimately hit all corners of the tank. I have a PAR meter, and have measured PAR in the corners of the tank, on the sandbed (dimmest spots) at 150. The “mid” levels of the scape, which are 3-5” from the sandbed, clock in at around 200 PAR. The highest levels of the rockwork (about 10” off the sandbed) hover between 250-350 PAR depending on the ripple effect from surface agitation (changes due to powerheads set to random reef mode), and the given intensity of my lighting schedule, which is a modified version of David Saxby’s schedule (you can find the schedule file on the AI website) that attempts to simulate cloud cover at various points of the day cycle. I have everything from hardcore SPS to Australian elegance corals growing at a rate that was previously unprecedented for me, before I upgraded to this tank and these lights a few months back. I’m running the blue channel at an average of 75% intensity, whites at 40%, UV at 35%, with a dabbling of other colors. So they’re plenty powerful. Do I wish they were brand new Radion G6 Pros? I mean, yeah. Am I perfectly happy and satisfied with the Hydra32HD units I bought for a good bit less money? Yep. In five years, I’ll re-evaluate. I imagine the one drawback to these lights is that their ability to drench SPS corals in light from many angles isn’t stellar. I have definite shadows in the tank. I personally like some shadows, because it creates some dynamic depth for the eye, but eventually, large SPS colonies would probably thrive better with more light penetration and spread. Anyhow, I encourage anyone considering these, who doesn’t have enough in the budget for Radions, to pull the trigger. It’s a great overall reef light.
I have a Mixed reef tank and the Hydra 32 HD is a godsend to me and my corals. My torch corals started spawning shortly after adding the Lunar lighting to my light schedule!
Got three of these for my 120 tall tank, and they light the whole thing, easy to program, it would be better if they had the Apex compatibility from the past, but they are very good, i would recommend them.
I had a difficult time getting the lights set up and using the app. I finally got the lights on and couldn't adjust them. I have had them for a year with no problems. We lost electric yesterday during a storm and unfortunately they didn't come back on. I didn't get home until late last night to discover they were not working. I tried this morning to get them working but I can't get them back on. I have been looking at youtube as well as the website trying to get them back on. I sent a request to the company but just got an automated response telling me to do the same things I have been doing for the past few hours on my tablet and phone. They website says they are open M-F. So now it is Saturday, and Monday is a holiday. I doubt I will hear from them until Tuesday, but if by some miracle I do hear from them I will update this post. I am extremely upset since I have over a thousand dollars of coral in the tank and I highly doubt they will all survive four days without any light. I don't understand why they would sell these lights with no other way to turn them on except for the app. I bought these based on a positive referral and did not do my research so I guess part of the blame is on me.
This light has worked really well for me. I’ve been running it for well over a year and it’s extremely easy to program and use. Also, AI has the signature series that made it easy to find a light spectrum that worked. I’m looking to get a second one, would recommend
Best lights on the market. You can literally do what ever you want with these lights. High par with good spread at a reasonable price. You get more than what you pay for when compared to other options.
My Solaris LED system was losing LED bulbs after a good 11 years of faithful service, so I finally broke down and replaced it. I picked up four of these Hydra 32s based on the positive reviews and videos here on BRS and on the net. While I had good coral growth with the Solaris, I expect much greater results with these Hydras. First, much better overall coloration in my corals -- both SPS and LPS -- that I had never seen before. It's like I was only seeing half the possible colors, and only at 50% brightness. This system is very easy to set up. Install the mobile app, follow the quick start guide, and you're on your way. Adjusting and balancing colors to your liking, scheduling the lighting, adding more than 1 Hydra, etc. is all very easy. It's a very quiet system -- no more howling Solaris fans! Convenient and small power adaptors instead of massive power bricks that consume tons of power. Easy to construct mounting kit. Overall, this is a well designed lighting solution and a solid investment.
The lights are marginal OK I guess (I own 2 32s, 3 16s). But good mobile iOS interface Is very important and the app is disappointing at best. Worst is the lack of customer support. Will not be buying anymore of these.
I purchased this as and upgrade from my AI Prime 16 for a Waterbox 40.2. Thanks to all the great videos BRS put out I finally decided this light is more then enough for my anemone cube ( Prime 16 was good at 100% power but too much shadowing for my liking). No issues with the light out of the box! I hung the light, hooked up and matched the BRS recommended spectrum and DONE!
These lights are Absolutely Outstanding
Was Skeptical at first ordering these lights seeing the reviews but as I’ve owned AI in the past they were always great so I went ahead and bought these right on the box no problems all connected perfectly and lights look amazing on my RedSea 900xxl tank got rid of the reef LED 90 sohappy with these.
I had multiple issues with this light. With the normal mount, there is no way to hide the cables inside, contrary to what was advertised. I got the flex arm and eventually the bracket for the hydra32 (required multiple emails to the company and incorrect shipments - only had a bracket for old hydra model for months). The grip came off after 2 days and the light crashed into my tank. The app wasn't easy to use to control the light. Shop another brand, you will be disappointed by this light and the company.
The light itself is great, the colors are fantastic and the par should let me grow almost everything in my nano tank. However, as of writing, the Android app does not allow modifying the moonlight channel. WiFi is also disabled though the hardware can support it. I would give the light 5 stars if moonlight worked as advertised and wifi was enabled.
I switched from a cheaper model to Hydra 32HD. Now I know that my corals were just surviving as oppose to thriving. I have set up the light to “Radion AB+”, as recommended by BRS, and corals couldn’t be happier. Also few words about BRS. On time, some items, even earlier delivery. Great customer support and overall a knowledgeable team. Thank you.
This light is great! I originally had an AI Prime HD and fell in love with the AI lineup of products due to their ease of setup, use, and monitoring with the built in Wi-Fi and MyAi app/website. I bought the Hydra 32 shortly after release and a trip to RAP Chicago 2019 to see them in person and have to say I am very happy as the LED puck is not only more powerful but the spread of the 32 upgraded compared to the Prime HD and presumably the spread of the Hydra 26's looks to be much better. The only problem with these lights as of 11-24-2019 is that the 32 and the new lineup of Prime and Hydra's do not connect via Wi-Fi which isn't a big deal when in range of the Bluetooth they connect with. However when you are not in range or are wanting to connect via a laptop or desktop. Since there currently isn't a Wi-Fi connection option there is no way to log in or access the light over the web anywhere in the world which I think was a major selling point for the older versions. While not a deal breaker it does feel like a step back considering that according to the article I have linked the lights do come with an Wi-Fi antenna. I would be very nice to see a firmware update re-enable the Wi-Fi capabilities that would allow the control from anywhere and act as a hub for also bluetooth connected Nero 5 pump. Again the Wi-Fi is not a complete deal breaker as the lights truly are a upgrade but had I done a little better research I may have gone with a dual 26hd setup with the reduced prices and still kept my wifi connectivity. Had a "driver fault" (teal & red) led flashing out of the box. After contacting ai, was quickly resolved. Seems the board connecting the pucks rattles out of position during shipping. Took it apart in a few minutes, plugged the board in and fixed the issue. Did a par test and the light seems pretty powerful. Colors are nice seems a lot better than the older prime i had, coral look happy and have colored up nicely.. 4/5 due to the issue. Would recommend. Not to much of a hassle to resolve driver fault issue, should be an easy fix for ai to keep from happening for other people.
