The AquaReady HOB-1.5 is a robust and versatile hang-on-back protein skimmer designed to provide powerful filtration for saltwater aquariums that do not have a sump. By creating fine air bubbles that attract and remove dissolved organic compounds, this skimmer actively improves water quality and clarity. Its primary function is to remove waste before it breaks down, helping to maintain a stable and healthy aquatic environment essential for corals and fish.
Engineered with a high-quality, modified Sicce pump and a proprietary needle wheel impeller, the HOB-1.5 ensures optimal bubble size for maximum filtration efficiency. It is rated for aquariums ranging from 40 gallons with a heavy bioload to 75 gallons with a light bioload. Maintenance is simplified thanks to an adjustable collection cup and plumbing that can be fully disassembled for thorough cleaning. This compact unit fits on aquarium rims up to 3/4 inches thick and operates as a simple plug-and-play device.
This protein skimmer is the ideal solution for hobbyists with all-in-one aquariums or standard tanks lacking a separate sump filtration system. Its simple, hang-on-back design allows for effortless installation and integration onto almost any saltwater setup within its capacity range. For aquarists looking for an effective, low-power, and easy-to-maintain method of waste removal without complex plumbing, the HOB-1.5 provides an essential tool for achieving a thriving reef ecosystem.

It was a little bigger than I expected but it's beautifully designed and works perfectly.
Ive had it maybe 2 months and the pump no longer has enough strength to make any bubbles. Not happy
At first I could NOT stand this skimmer, it just constantly overflowed. I tried for 4 days to get it to settle. I gave up and pulled it off my tank. I spent the next couple of days pouring over YouTube and finally figured out a way to get the output flow managed. Now it's breaking in and NOT overflowing. I do plan on getting a venturi air valve to limit air flow, and let this baby do it's job.
I have used this skimmer for several years when it was Aquamaxx. Works very well. Skimmate every day Need to keep it clean and watch air intake from clogging with salt creep but I would highly recommend it
I will be honest this thing is a tank. It works very well. The plastic piece that the air intake has broken 1x a year and makes it inoperative if that piece gets broken. That same piece needs cleaning if bubbles stop. I am having trouble the micro bubbles with it. It works very well and reduces my maitenance.
Set it up, primed it and it has been working like a champ! No issues.
I've had the skimmer for almost 9 months now and I hate it! It took months to break in. I couldn't leave it on unattended. When they say it's good for 40 gallons you better have a light bio load. There is a design flaw that causes a lot of bubbles. You can buy the diffuser but it should actually come with a considering no matter what you do it fills your aquarium with bubbles. It's noisy because of that. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere and spend more money for a better product.
I have a 55 gallon tank that i use hang on the back stuff with. I got this when my last protein skimmer died and this works amazing! It keeps my water quality very nice, and has reduced the amount of cleaning I needed to do. Its high quality material and not hard to put together. I fully recommend this especially if you have a lot of fish.
I've had this now for 2 months with no complaints on a fiji cube 32 AIO with medium bio load. It's worth every penny, love the ease of the collection cup, super easy to adjust, and take no time to produce skim.
I have an Innovative Marine AIO 50 Lagoon, 4 chamber , threw out the turd Midsize skimmer that IM designed for this tank. This Skimmer fits perfectly inside the second chamber, made more waste in the first day than the IM skimmer made in 3 weeks. It’s impressively well built, it’s all in one so as long as you Have room behind your tank this will work with no pump in the aquarium taking up Real estate, the noise level isn’t bad at all , out of all its other reviews noise was the issue, it’s not concerning to me at all. Price Is high , but I’d give this thing 6 stars if I could , assembly was a bit fun, just watch a YouTube and it will help, directions were not included , but that made it more interesting to get to know this product. I love it and can’t wait to see the health of my coral tank from here on out . Thx !
