The GRO Refugium Light is a specialized LED fixture designed to promote optimal growth of macroalgae in refugiums or sumps within saltwater and freshwater aquarium systems. This compact yet powerful light features 84 LEDs that emit wavelengths specifically tuned for macroalgal photosynthesis, ensuring efficient nutrient uptake while minimizing light spillage into the main tank area. The unit's flat bracket mount allows it to be securely attached to a flat surface like the edge of your sump or stand.

Went through of these over 25 months. Runs well however both units stopped working due to moisture creeping into the units over time and shorting out the fixture. Both events happened right outside of warranty. Unit never dipped into the water. As others said, weak arm.
As the title states, this light is large and works well for large tanks. What about those of us who have smaller sumps? What about those of us with odd sized refuge areas.
Excellent spectrum that helps grow only macro algae, I havest my chaeto every week in my nano.
I have been using my Gro for about 6 months now and it is perfect for my Refugium.
As everyone said, I had 2 cheap $25 grow lights from amazon. Needless to say, it kept my 4 macros alive but they grew so slow. I replaced the 2 with one of these based on a recommendation from my LFS. Boom, like that my Nitrates and Phosphates came into line and I fed kind of heavy. This would easily be a 5 for me if the mounting bracket was better. That being said, I was able to just have it rest on one of the baffle lips on my sump (does not come into contact with water) and it has worked well. Ironically, I had to employ the same solution for my Neptune probe mount because those magnets are weak lol
I always had problems growing Chaeto it light grows like crazy. I highly recommend!
I have been using it for months now and can say this is terrible and growing algae. If BRS didn’t own Neptune I wonder if they would still recommend it. Only product on the BRS recommended list that really disappoints. Wasted money on this light
I have had this over 2 months out. Works great. I mount 4 inches over water. CHAETO has more than quadrupled. Mounting arm is a little weak (but doesn't make a difference because even if it droops (mine doesn't), it still won't hit the water even if power goes out.
Cons- Weak mounting arm, weak light output. Really disappointed honestly. I got better growth from Amazon no name lights. Pros- It is plug and play. The light its self is well built. (The mounting arm is what sucks)
I have just installed so can’t comment on growth but. Connected very easily to existing apex and easy to setup. Seems very well built.
The light looks amazing and looks like it has a lot more strength than my Kessil H80. So, I assume it is going to grow my sea lettuce very well. Only downfall I used my kessil bracket for the light. The mount would not hold the unit up. Improvements could be made to that bracket and it was too short.
Mounting arm could be a little stiffer. I just glad its not as stiff as the Kessel arm. Grows cheato just fine mine is over a cr44 sump might add one more just for some more intensity. If you want a light that's plug and play. With no worries, then get it. If you want something with more power. Don't, complain just spend more money and get a higher powered light.
The mounting arm is limp but does the job. Maybe I received a defective unit but these are not water resistant! My light was mounted 2-3" over the surface, it started blinking and has moisture inside the unit. I had it on for a couple months and this light is nothing special and does not perform any better than a cheap grow light.
The mounting arm doesn't hold up the light. It droops over time and is pretty weak. Can only turn on or off, no dimming capability.
Installed gro today. One of the first things I noticed was the mounting arm seemed very weak. Like it was not rigid enough to handle the weight of the light. Going forwards I will need to keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn't drift into the Fuge area of my sump. Update in a couple weeks on how it grows my Cheto
If it's anything like the Zetlight it will grow chaeto very well, I especially like the mounting bracket very clean looking. I have mine programed to dim out the blues around sunset then come back on around 1 AM and both off between noon and 3. Hopefully neptune kept that feature.
I went from a Kessil refugium light to this and man what a world of difference. Really made my macro algae grow. Great spread and spectrum. The only down fall is that the light runs off a 24 volt port through either EB832 or FMM or the 1 link and is not controllable except to turn off and on. It is not able to control brightness or spectrum. The light is definitely worth the money.
