This feeder works great but even with the "fan" in the back to help keep it dry it still builds up moisture inside and causes the food to clump and mold. It's very adjustable and easy to use, just keep it away from bubblers.
Needed to be sure the fish were feed while I was away, this unit did the job. Only con would be the opening slider moves too easy. If you accidently touch the slider before you put the unit down you need to do it again. Other than that it does what it is supposed too. Thumbs up from me...
This product is not waterproof.
Don't let the low price fool you. The Eheim feeder is well made and reliable. I've been using mine for years without a hitch. Batteries last a long time.
These are great auto feeders. They are simple to program and use. I have found that they work best with pellets and not so much with flake food. I’ve been using these for years without fail.
I've been using mine to feed my 100 gallon reef tank 3-4 times a day every day for about 2.5 years. I've had zero issues and only changed the batteries once. A few suggestions for other reviewers: 1. Mounting options - like many reefers, I have a screen top on my tank. To create a feeder platform, I cut a 5" x 5" triangle of 3mm ABS plastic and used a few drops of coral glue to attach it to the frame of the screen lid, at the rear corner. When the feeder dispenses, the pellets drop right through the screen lid. The feeder also cannot fall into the tank. When I need to open the lid, I just set the feeder aside. 2. Getting pellets to sink - I added some 1" thick plastic blocking on my platform to raise the feeder higher. This makes the pellets hit the water faster and they tend to sink. It also helps to point a return outlet from your sump at the same corner where the feeder is located and then the pellets stay in that corner until they sink. 3. Size of opening for different foods - use a piece of electrical tape which will not fail in warm, wet conditions. Varying the placement of the tape, you can get exactly the amount of food you want from each feeding. 4. Food clumping - in my tank, the fish aggressively feed and splash water up to the feeder so raising the height like I described in #2 keeps it dry. Also be sure to clean out & dry the inside of the drum at least once a month. This keeps the food rotating and sliding freely. 5. Need on/off switch - there are two options for this. First, you can go through the program and turn off all the feeding times (I would only do this if I was taking the feeder out of service for a long time). Second and much easier, just pull the food drum off the feeder and set it aside. The drum will continue to rotate but you don't have to change your feeding program.
I have mine for over two years now without any fail. I have it feeding 4 times per day with no issues. Pretty quiet, you barely hear it. My only complaint is that I have to adjust the time ones in a while, the time gets off about 1-2 minutes per month.
This auto feeder is easy to program and reliable. The drum rotates everytime it should without fail. The one issue I have is that it doesn't dispense small petals very well. On one setting it drops too little and the next setting up it drops way too much. I have to set it to dispense in the middle of the two setting which is not ideal. I'll probably be trying a different auto feeder that can feed the small amount more times a day.
I've had this for a year or two and it's as reliable and consistent as $30 will get you. It does get salt particles in the mouth and clogs from time to time, but that's a function of sitting near salt water constantly. Try a piece of tape to hold the mount open at just the right amount and a tooth brush to clean it out.
Just want to warn others as I did not fully understand why so many reviews talked about their feeders falling in the tank. Well its because they did not design the clamp so its usuable, unless u have a rimmless tank. They expect you to place it on top of a canopy. The clamp is way to small to fit most aquariums. You need to cut and modify it so it fits over your rim. Its my fault as I should of sent it back, but I didnt want the hassle and be without it. I figured I would get my buddies skill saw to cut it. I was super careful and placed it on top but sure enough it fell in as most will eventually will without mods. Just frustrating because it should come standard to fit most tanks without cutting it! Unless u have a rimless tank or like moding things so they work dont buy it. Lots of others that you dont have to deal with this.
First one lasted a little over a month (twice a day feeding) and BRS gracefully replaced it. Second one lasted 9 mos (same interval) Don't bother even considering this poor quality product. 1 star was 1 too many
Overall it's easy, it's cheap, and it works. I would suggest adding a little weight to the back if your not clamping it down as it gets tippy when it's full... which is why I bought a second one.
Works pretty good, but drop it in the tank once, it's a paperweight forevermore. I tried drying it out with rice. Still no good.
If I wasn't poor I'd buy the apex one, but this one seems to work when I test it. Having a screen too on a cube has made it challenging or maybe there is a better way to mount it? Either way it feeds the fish, more than I would like to feed them but they get fed!
If you have cats, be sure the feeder is well secured! We have a glass-top tank, perfect for placing the feeder on, but didn't think to "bolt it down." Came home and found that our cats had repositioned it [probably attracted to the sound and movement] and there was a nice pile of food collected on the top of the tank. The fish was fine, and at least he [large GF] hadn't been over fed while we were gone.
Had one now for over a year, using pellets. Has been great even dropped it in tank and still going after allowing it to dry out a few days. Only complaint of any sort is you have to be very careful with the door, as opening it up a click or 2 larger than planned will allow much more food to escape than planned.
Food clumps inside because of moisture if you use it as every day feeder. This stopped working after about 3 months of use. Looked inside with flashlight and battery connection strip is all corroded. No contact. Made a warranty claim but service is a joke. Won't buy any products from Eheim again.
Went on 10 day holiday and used this feeder to feed batfish, clown and powder brown tang. Filled about 1/2 full with pellets (std and seaweed) + reef chili for corals - worked flawlessly! Thanks BRS
I love these! Ordering my third one, but that's only because I have a habit every year or so of doing something that knocks it into the tank. They don't fair well too being submersed. Other than that they're set and forget until you see the food bin is getting low.
Nice compact design and easily programmable. Mounting can be a task, I had to modify my bracket to get it to attach securely. Registering w/ Eheim is a joke, they list all of their products but feeders.
I purchased this and a feeding ring before leaving for vacation. It worked well. Food was dispensed on schedule (I had a camera focused on it so I could check on vacation). It was easy to program. Good deal for the money.
For the money this has been hard to beat. Easy to program and then walk away. Lets me get away for a while without having to have someone try to feed my tank. Two issues, one easily overcome: the door for the feed opening moves easily and can be accidentally opened wider or narrower when handling the container; a piece of tape took care of that. The other is a lack of an "off" switch. Seems like that would be pretty basic - but having to take the batteries out to turn it off is a nuisance. If you use it all the time, no worries, but removing/replacing batteries and reprogramming each time I use it is a bit annoying. That said, it does what I need it to for a very reasonable price.
Works well. Had to use zip ties to get it mounted as I do not have a top. I have no problem with clumping. Works with pellets or flakes.
I tried flake food and it clumps up from moisture and does not come out of the chamber.
I have had it for almost a year and havn't replaced the batteries. Functions great, and its quiet. The downside is the adjustment door is very finicky. I use a piece of tape on it to get the correct amount of food.
Very good feeder. Schedule up to 4 times with 2 rotations each. Just make sure u mount it slightly at an angle.
Setup was simple, does what it says it does. Build quality was about what I expected, nothing feels like it is going to just fall into the tank while I am away and nuke my tank. The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because I would like more mounting options.
I used this about two months ago and it worked fine. Put it away, pulled it out because im going on vacation and the drum will not rotate to the programed time. Piece of crap. Don't buy this product. I sure will not buy another. I think Eheim should replace it for free, but I am not going to ask. Who would want another? not me!
I use this unit to maintain a minimum amount of daily feeding requirements and to supplement while I'm away. Would recommend this product.
This fish feeder has been feeding my fish 3 times a day dependably for over 6 months now. The hardest part is remembering to keep it full! You can set it for multiple times per day and varying amounts each time. For me it holds over 2 weeks worth of food in the container.
After having tried three other auto-feeders including one from Ehiem this one seems to have nailed my requirements. It will handle small and large pellets along with flake (I mix some pellets with flake and this works great too). You can meter the amount fed with relative ease although not much precision. The door that controls the amount fed is pretty easy to knock open or closed and doesn't have positive clicks on each setting, The door on the two units I own just kind of flops between settings so an errant thumb when you set it up could easily knock it out of adjustment. Probably a QC issue on the parts from their supplier as others haven't mentioned this problem. A piece of tape has locked it down for me. The unit is near silent and very unobtrusive when mounted above my tank. I put it directly above a power head to ensure the whole amount of food is distributed around the tank. Other than the feed door there isn't much room for improvement as it is easy to program. Currently my fish all park just below the feeder and seem to have the timing down pretty good!
This is a great item, I have it feed two spins at 1100, and my apex goes into feed mode a min beforehand. Just know it doesn't float and is not water proof. Ask me how I know. Yep, just ordered another one.
I feed Spectrum mini pellets with this feeder twice a day. I found that it has to drop the food from at least 6 inches or so or the pellets float and wind up all going down the overflow instead of sinking and getting eaten. Also, the adjustable door that regulates the amount of food dispensed has a really coarse adjustment. A piece of tape helps dial it in.
I have been using this feeder for well over a year. It dispenses flake food or small pellets with a consistent day to day performance. I like that the feeder timer is easy to set, up to four times a day and up to two times each feeding. It is easy to set the time and the number of times you want to feed. Easy to adjust the feeding door to set for what you are feeding.
It has many feeding times Holds enough food Runs silent Good buy
After some adjustments, it feeds enough to sustain my fish while going away for a long weekend. I filled it with food and tested it before putting it on the tank to make sure it wasn't feeding too much and am glad I did...Easy to adjust and after reading the instructions it was easy to set the timer. The batteries have lasted about 8 months of off and on use as well.
Great product! I once accidentally dropped mine into the tank. I pulled it out, removed the batteries, flushed the unit with fresh tap water and let it dry out. Replaced the batteries, and it has been running ever since.
Works great and I know I can rely on it when I go away for a few days. Great value for the peace of mind.
I wanted to make sure my fish where getting a minimum amount of food per day. This feeder was perfect for the job. It is very easy to program and adjust. Holds a large amount of food and the best thing is the food never gets wet.
My fish don't need a "diet mode" or anything fancy. I want a product that reliably feeds my fish the amount that I want, when I want. That is exactly what the Eheim auto-feeder does. It's a no-frills approach to feeding, which in my experience, leads to fewer complications when things go wrong. The built-in fan keeps my food dry and fresh.
