Seachem CupriSorb is a specialized filtration media designed to be a powerful adsorbent of copper and heavy metals from both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. It acts more rapidly and efficiently than carbon, making it the ideal choice for emergency copper removal after treating a tank with copper-based medications. This media helps restore water quality to a state that is safe for sensitive inhabitants by targeting and eliminating harmful metallic contaminants.
Unlike standard cation exchange resins that are often ineffective in saltwater, CupriSorb is a unique copper-specific chelating resin. This advanced formulation allows it to extract all types of copper, including difficult-to-remove chelated copper. A single 250 mL portion is capable of treating a 150-gallon aquarium, removing up to 7,500 mg of copper. For ease of use, the media provides a clear visual indicator of exhaustion by changing from a light color to a deep blue-black, signaling when it's time for replacement.
This product is essential for aquarists who need to make a previously medicated tank safe for invertebrates like corals, shrimp, and snails. It is also invaluable for hobbyists acquiring a used aquarium system, as CupriSorb can gradually pull residual copper that has leached into the substrate and rockwork over time. By placing it in a high-flow area like a media reactor or canister filter, you can ensure your aquarium is completely free of toxic copper, creating a safe environment for a thriving reef.

Decided to wait quite a while to do this as I wanted to make sure it worked. I have no excuse, as I screwed up majorly but figure I'd share how this product helped me. Introduced velvet to my aquarium early in my new setup (got lazy, but now quarantine everything). I had 10 fish but had not added much in terms of a CUC yet and only invert was a starfish. Since I couldn't get my fish out to a quarantine easily, I added copper to my main tank. The copper saved my fish. As many may realize, copper gets into sand and live rock. I used cuprisorb for 2 months in my sump to remove the copper. It only took about 2 weeks to get to a measured 0 ppm, but left it in as the rest diffused/leached out of live rock and sand. After 2 months, started adding inverts again. Had no problems, and now 18 months later, still everything is great.
