The Comline DOC Skimmer 9001 is an innovative internal protein skimmer designed for saltwater reef aquariums. Utilizing Tunze's patented "Flash Skimming Principle," this compact unit efficiently removes organic pollutants such as proteins, cellulose, and dead cells from the water column. It operates as a standalone filtration device, drawing water through an effective surface suction and generating a high volume of extremely fine air bubbles to adsorb and collect unwanted waste.
This skimmer boasts quiet operation and a powerful Comline Foamer 9001.040 pump, which draws 100 LPH (26 GPH) of air to create bubbles with diameters between 0.1 to 0.3 mm for optimal pollutant capture. It features a convenient magnetic holder, suitable for glass up to 3/8 inch thick, ensuring easy installation and removal. Key specifications include a power consumption of just 2.5 watts, compact dimensions of 4.3 inches L x 2.5 inches W x 8.5 inches H, and a recommended immersion depth of 5.1 to 6.1 inches. The patented anti-overfoaming system and easy-to-remove collection cup further enhance its user-friendly design, ensuring bubble-free outgoing water.
The Comline DOC Skimmer 9001 is an ideal choice for nano and smaller saltwater aquariums, capable of handling tank loads from 5.3 gallons with heavy bioloads up to 37 gallons with light bioloads. Its compact footprint, energy efficiency, and low-noise operation make it perfect for hobbyists seeking effective, hassle-free protein skimming without the need for additional equipment or a large sump space. This skimmer provides essential water purification, contributing to a healthier and more stable reef environment for your aquatic inhabitants.

I have used this in many different situations and in each, I have been happy. I used it in a 20 gallon Redsea nano, as a backup sump skimmer and have since moved it on to a type of QT tank for coral frags where I use the surface skimmer. The micro bubbles only kick up when something is dosed or when you mess with it. Besides that, I never see any micro bubbles from this thing. What I do see is a nice skimmate that has a rather pungent smell. It does a great job and for a great price. If you're not getting this skimmer to work, the problem is you.
Used this to replace the skimmer on my red sea max nano peninsula and it's been great. Better skimmate and half the size. Highly recommend
I tried for months to get this skimmer dialed in but it never worked. It either flowed too wet or it wouldn't produce any skimate at all. My AIO tank water level is constant because I have an ATO system, so I thought adjusting its height in the water column would work. many tries later, no luck. I played with the airflow as well. Nothing ever worked consistently. Choose another make or model.
I have a 29 gallon biocube, and it was tough to find a skimmer that fit it properly. This one fit the bill perfectly. You DO have to take some time to get the air flow 'dialed in', but once you do it works really well. I was amazed at how quiet it was- my circulation pumps were louder, so you don't even hear it run. It worked so well, in fact, I had to stop using it full time because my nutrient levels were bottoming out! There is such a thing as TOO MUCH waste removal.
I put this on my Waterbox 20g cube nano by using silicone to mount the magnet to the side. It’s perfect fit, skims like a dream, and I love it. I have the larger version on my 90g and it also gives amazing nutrient export. These skimmers are by far my favorite and the only ones I trust.
I only have one complaint and two wishes. I wish the cup was taller for dryer waste. I wish it has a side mounted magnet option. Complaint.. the magnet mount breaks when you take it off no matter how careful you are the tabs are poorly made. You must take off the mount in order to put on the spacer if you do not have a rimless tank. Tunze will replace the body of the skimmer if this happens.. The Fix? a few drops of acetone and some weights and you can glue that magnet to any portion of the skimmer if this happens (i put mine on the side where which also keeps the skimmer more level) The good. Skimming in under a day. No micro bubbles and about as loud as the fan on my radion.
I just installed this skimmer yesterday in the 1st chamber of my M60. The instructions are clean and the unit is easy to install/operate. In my case, I found that it needed to be over an inch HIGHER in the tank than the water level indicator suggested. My assumption is as the skimmer breaks in, this will need to be adjusted. Even at this elevated level, it still produced a quarter-inch of tea-colored skim over night. I will update my review once I have more experience with this skimmer, but so far I am a happy customer.
This is a great little skimmer, and works great on our 60 gallon saltwater aquarium. I just empty and clean the collector basket on top about one every week or so, and it consistently scrubs the protein out of the tank. If you keep it clean, it will last a long time (2-3 years, or more.)
I bought this to replace the loud skimmer that came on the red sea max nano - and im glad i did. Fits easily in the rear of the tank and is super easy to install / get working. Dont know what the bad reviews are for, probably user error.
For my nano reef I needed a skimmer that would help me in gas exchange and nutrient export. While I know larger skimmers would be more effective at nutrient export, the skimmate increases and decreases in accordance with my small organic fluctuations I measure in the water. It appears to the best of my observation to be effective at helping manage the organics in my biocube 29. Most crucially, it easily fits in the AIO back chamber.
I have this skimmer on my 29 biocube and is the worse money I ever spend on my tank it doesn't work is been running for 2 month now no skim mate the amount of microbubbles is unbelievable makes my tank look cloudy. I hate this thing I took it out and now is in the garbage do your self a favor don't buy it.
I have this skimmer in a innovative marine 30l fits good in the center chamber. The skimmer produces very well when it is not laying in the bottom of the tank. It produced 0 micro-bubbles since day one. The issue I have with it is the magnet does not hold the skimmer. It would work one day and then it would slide down and over flow the collection cup. I had to order another magnet and remove the magnet from the side and mount both magnets on the back of the skimmer one towards the top and one towards the bottom. The skimmer now stays put where you need it.
My first impeller wheel skimmer. After 2 weeks of break in time, I found running the air restriction is needed. It produces heaps of foam. Very reminiscent of lava flowing over a volcano.. and if you drive near a sewage plant. Well then you know that smell this skimmer produces. ... I run this is surface skim mode.
This skimmer is Great for a small reef and fowler tank have 3 of them 1 on a 29 biocube reef,1 on a 20 long reef and a 30 fowler. Works gratin all . Keeping the water level is key to its greatness have the TUNZE Nano osmolator on all tanks and that makes it sweet! Micro bubbles go away after break in.
I have an IM Nuvo 30L Reef. After reading numerous negative reviews on the Ghost Skimmers ( The ones specifically made for IM) Micro Bubbles are a huge issue with them. I decided to give this one a try. It is well made, though it does seem to "fall apart" when you're first installing it. But after it is in the back chamber it holds together quite well. It took about two weeks of breaking in and adjusting the air intake, but it works wonders now... I may have to upgrade when my bioload increases but for what it is, it works great.
Got this for my 40 gallon IM Nuvo.It works great and starting skimming fron day one.
I purchased this skimmer mainly due to it's size, the sleek look, and the Tunze name. Upon receipt, I wasn't impressed with the build quality -- everything is just barely held together with thin plastics and every time I go to empty the cup, it tries to fall apart. I'm running it in a little 10 gallon framed tank, so to get it to clear the lip, I had to use the mounting extension; however when doing so it sags badly and looks awful. I finally had to give up on the extension and mount it under the lip, meaning my water level in the tank is now constantly visible. It still sags even with the standard magnet mount, but less so. When trying to get it dialed in, I would have days where I would empty it in the morning, then all of a sudden it decides to go nuts and overflow by the time I made it home from work. I finally have it working where I can at least go a full day without too many worries. I've had it running for two and a half months now and it skims well, but the biggest problem is the bubbles! I kept waiting for it to break in and stop dumping a ton of micro-bubbles into the tank, but I'm beginning to suspect it's defective or something. I like that it actually skims and is a nice compact size, and that it included a surface skimming attachment, but the flimsy construction, temperamental adjustments, and unrelenting bubbles leave me hesitant to recommend this product.
I really like this skimmer now that it has broken in (about a month). After some adjustments and tinkering it produces a nice dark nasty skimmate! I have it in a chamber that has a constant water level and have slowly been dialing back the air to get great results. Not sure what others are doing wrong
This skimmer works perfect. For its size it is crazy how much it will skim. I used it in a biocube 29 for 6-9 months as a normal skimmer, than inside of a 40 gallon breeder as a surface skimmer. Does just exactly as it should. Would still be using it, but sold my tank. When i reset up my biocube it is a must unless they develop an even better one.
Like Dominik, I was tinkering with it daily to try and get good skimmate, but after about a month of running, it seems to have dialed in and is producing skimming pretty well now. It's a decent skimmer if you have patience.
this skimmer is a major pain. I have ATO, so the water level stays constant. But even with a constant water level, the cup keeps filling up with water. to prevent water from getting into cup, I have to adjust air flow and keep opening it over time. Major pain! I will do a bit more research but if I cannot get it to work I will go back to my previous skimmer.
