This color-changing CO2 absorbent media is an effective solution for raising and stabilizing pH levels in saltwater reef aquariums. Composed of a precise mixture of calcium hydroxide, water, and sodium hydroxide, it works by efficiently removing carbon dioxide from the air drawn into your system. By connecting a reactor filled with this media to your protein skimmer's air intake, you can combat the negative effects of high ambient CO2 in your home, leading to a healthier and more stable aquatic environment.
Featuring a distinct white-to-purple color change, this media provides a clear visual indicator when it is depleted and needs to be replaced. The formulation is engineered for minimal dust due to its high surface area and graded particle size. It is packaged in sealed Mylar bags to preserve its hydration state, ensuring a longer service life and maximum CO2 absorption capacity. Importantly, this media does not contain potassium hydroxide and is resistant to dry gas desiccation, minimizing potential risks.
This product is ideal for reef aquarists who struggle with persistently low pH despite maintaining correct alkalinity levels. It is a reliable and straightforward method for aquarists looking to provide a more stable environment for their corals and other inhabitants. Whether you have a small system or a large one with high ambient CO2, the available refill and bulk sizes make it an economical choice for achieving optimal water parameters.

got mine up from 7.9 to 8.25...rise. Last about 2 month in my biocube 32. Using a recycler method and catch can for any water vapor.
I have had this in my reactor for almost a month. The color hasn't changed yet so I will just keep an eye on it and see if I can increase air flow.
Using with BRS universal scrubber on a Reefer 600. Works great initially but media is exhausted with 2-3 days. I give it a shake and keep sponge moist but after a few days I can’t get it to raise ph again.
Do t buy this product. I bought and only two days my ph was from 8.1 to 8.3.. then dropped to 7.8 to 8. Terrible quality. Also, the color never changed.
I was seeing suppressed pH in a tank in an active room and was able to boost the level by 0.3 or more from simply adding this co2 media. The color change isn't the most noticeable but that's fine because the day it runs out I can see a more intense downtrend in my pH.
Been using this on a 270g system. Helps keep the PH up around 8.1 (from a normal 7.8) for about 2 weeks before it starts diminishing, and needs replacement every 3-4 weeks, which seems on par. My only gripe is I've never actually seen it change color?
I started running this media in a BRS Jumbo CO2 Scrubber hooked up to a PH controller w/ electric ball valve just over a month ago and it is still chugging along - no signs of needing replacement. Great performance for the price, especially with how often it seems to go on sale.
It definitely keeps my PH higher , I use the BRS reactor , I see people complain on how long the media last . I found it would lose efficiency after a few days, and initially I thought it was the media , my pH would start to drop a little after a few days . It wasn’t the media , my house is very dry , and after a couple days, the bottom of the container would be dry, and the sponges would be bone dry , I found that if I kept the sponge constantly moist and make sure there’s always a little water at the bottom of the container the media last me about four weeks. Now from the start of the day my PH is around 8.20 or higher to the end 8.40 or a little lower . Before I started use the reactor I was high 7’s to 8.10 .
The media does what you would expect it to do. However, something has changed over the years as the newer media coming from BRS has no real distinguishable color change, and the media is consumed/exhausted withing 2 days maybe three max which is way sooner than it used to be. Switching to Sodium Lime for better results!
Initially "works" (still large pH swings, just higher) but in a few days you'll see it become less effective. Can't see a color change until you dump it out and then it's light violet. After 1 big bag I switched to Ice Cap. It's FAR more pH stable (8.20-8.30) and I'm 5 days in so far.
Media does exactly as it's supposed to, but the color change is extremely faint especially through a plastic media housing, and could definitely be more obvious when compared to other brands I have used. Overall great for the price though.
I am running this using a BRS C02 scrubber connected to my skimmer. The Good: This media works well and raised my average PH by .25. The Bad: The color only slightly changes when the media is exhausted. The change is difficult to visually detect, it would be very tedious to frequently check ph using a test kit to see if the media is still performing. My apex constantly monitors ph and it is easy to see when ph drops due to the media being exhausted. Also, this media will only work for 4 days before being used up in my system. I added a C02 recirculator and the media will last about 10 days now before needing to be replaced.
I'm running a recirc setup and recently changed to a larger skimmer, so my experience with the life of the media is not a fair apples to apples to comparison. I am using a double jumbo BRS scrubber and had previously got 6 weeks out of the media. However, after switching to the larger skimmer, I now only got 4 weeks. Is what it is... More airflow, less media life I guess. However, one major fault of the product is the color change. Or lack thereof. This is my second media change and there is virtually no color change. The only indicator that the BRS media was no longer working was the pH falling off sharply. Probably less than 10% of the pellets changed to the lightest shade of purple, but even that was only visible when you remove the cartridge, open it, and inspect it in direct light. While some may say that's not a big deal, it really does mess with the automated dosing and Alk as when the pH falls off, so does the Alk consumption, and then things get out of whack for a couple of days. Consistency is key to an SPS tank, and my preference would be to be able to change it before it stops working. The BRS media definitely increased the pH, but the sharp fall off with no warning is a little disappointing. I'm going to try the IceCap media and see if I have better luck with that.
Works as it should no complaints
I had 7.6 ph couldn’t get up no matter what I put this media it work instantly. I had 8.0
This media does the job, but the color change that should take place does not seem to be consistent. The media depletes with minimal color change in the bottom of the scrubber only. Not a big deal since you can determine the media needing to be changed based on the PH trending low.
I give 1 star to the bulk media because it comes crushed, and the bag is not resealable. With the ice pellets my PH was 8.2 to 8.3 even with a half of a container. With the bulk media my PH runs 8.0 to 8.1. The quality I think is not very good,it does work though.
Using this media with my protein skimmer in recirculating configuration. PH holds steady at 8.2.
I do not like the bags they are very hard to get to seal, i had to put media in a air tight bucket As far as the media my ph went from 7.68 at night with alk at 8.5-9.0 maintained by alkatronic . It is now at 8.15 and does not drop below 7.97 at night and is still climbing a little at a time . and i am pulling outside air also. it has been running for 3 days and media is at 1/3rd depleted on the small cannister so media works good packaging does not ,at least this bag does not i am rating packaging 1 star and media 5
Your co2 media used to be great when it came in the plastic container instead of the foil bag. Not sure what changed but this last batch doesn’t raise ph at all! Not sure if it’s a bad batch or the media size which also changed from full pellets to what looks like crushed up pellets.
The particles are too small. The flow channels and does not end up using all the media unless you open it and stir it up. Unless they fix that you are better off using something else. I am now
Works as they say it does. Guess based on tank needs is how fast it dies. I've had mine in for over 2 weeks. And just now seeing color change. At first I was skeptical then it started to change. My tank is 20g which is prolly why it's slower.
I set up a co2 scrubber with this media and let me tell you, my Ph would top out at 8.19 but after adding this media it went as high as 8.45 . This was with an added line of fresh air. Unfortunately it depletes real fast , as of now I had to change it at 8 days. I now have now have my apex set to turn skimmer off at 8.35 to see if it lasts a little longer.
My aquarium is in the lower level of a split level. I suspected CO2 issues because of low ph, 7.9. Immediate results. Within less than a week, the ph was 8.1. I did see a drop in ph within a month. Changed the media, and ph improved within a week. I can see the color change, but it is very faint.
I don’t recirculate as I am not certain that it is safe or works well. So I am always replacing which can be pricey. I like the pellet size a bit more than the Ice Cap. There are other options. May explore those in the future.
This works great I have been strugaling with low ph this did the trick caused ph from 7.85 ti 8.2 thank you
Never changed colo or made a difference in pH or air CO2 levels monitored by CO2Meter RAD-0301
Performs as expected but color change is almost imperceptible. It changes to an EXTREMELY faint purple, only visible out of the scrubber and viewed in natural light. I am going back to medical supply source as color change is very obvious while in the scrubber housing.
I was skeptical but you have to be patient , it does work , had suppressed PH because of calcium reactor -- 7.6 -- 7.7 , - you have to use re circulation method with skimmer , it took a full month to see significant difference , now i am at 8.0 PH , -- What helps also to boost PH is to drip effluent into refuigium and put output of refuig into venturi of skimmer.
I initially did not get any relief from the CO2 scrubber. I was hoping that I had a bad batch of media and traded it out. Then I discovered that I had put the cartridge in upside down. I turned it the right way and within 30 minutes had more of an impact on the tank that in the preceeding 3 weeks. All the instructions in the world will not prevent me from trying to screw it up. Ha!
This batch never changed colors, and lasted a record short time!
Simply does not work where other media does perfectly. Hardly effects the pH and never changes color. Step up BRS. Time to change this product or stop selling it.
I have a Nyos Quantum 220 Skimmer. Media peak performance lasts only 24 hours and is exhausted within 48. I'm using BRS Universal CO2 Media Reactor - doesn't hold much. Color did not change for me. Did boost ph about .15 on day one, but falls off quickly on day two. An expensive method to raise PH for sure.
I hate to write a bad review but this product doesn't work like advertised. The first time I used it my PH went from 7.8 to 8.35 for a week but that was it. In the 4 times i've changed the media since it only goes to 7.9 and once to 8.0. I was thinking I got a bad batch but I've used the individual pouches 4 times and the same result. I'll try different media recommended.
Replaced icecap media with BRS media and my ph dropped and still is dropping now reading 7.52. Total waste of money. BRS you can do better.
Unlike others comments, mine did change color...but that was about all it did. After running the scrubber for a few months and regularly changing the media, I went from a PH of 7.8 to 7.9. There was zero real gain to the cost of the media. Making it worse was the impact on my Protein Skimmer. Fresh media would slightly impact air intake and the impact would grow as media was used up. I found myself constantly adjusting the skimmer to compensate and get the skim I wanted. I took out the scrubber and will save the canister and trash the media.
It will only work for about 2 weeks and the media never changed...will try other brands to compare them...but the means does not justify the end....to expensive
Soes not work at all. CO2 media i bought from vet supply works great. This does not and is more expensive. Does not change color or absorb CO2. Waste of money.
I have to agree with everyone posting reviews. This is nothing like the co2 absorbing media BRS uses to sell. I haven’t had the need to order this stuff in quite some time. I just got it a few days ago and filled the canister. The pH is already dropping from where it was 2 days ago meaning the media is starting to expire. BRS BRING BACK THE OLD MANUFACTURER OF THIS STUFF! I’ll gladly pay more for it if needed!!!
I have to agree with other reviews of this product. It does not last near as long as the previous version of this media. It is no longer my go to CO2 media.
The new version of this media that BRS is using is horrible; the prior spherical media, although more expensive, was vastly superior. This new media is complete garbage. It will raise my PH about 0.3 points for a day or two and then drop 0.2 with the color changing media about half way exhausted, which also exhausts unevenly because of the shape of the media. I will have to open the canister and shake the media to redistribute it. In less than a week, the entire media is exhausted. The old spherical media exhausted evenly, kept the PH stable for the entire length of use, and lasted approx 4-6 weeks. BRING BACK THE OLD MEDIA, I will gladly pay more for it!
Not happy with this will try CO2 subber for diving
I bought this as an alternative to the two little fishies media, which I had used before with good results but costs more. This doesn't work nearly as well or for as long. PH was being kept around 8.2 with two little fishies, in a very CO2 rich home, but with this it's staying below 8 without the media being exhausted. I'll be going back to either two little fishies CDX or buying bulk from a vet brand.
This product does work, it raises my PH by about .3. However for me it lasts about 3 days where “the other” CO2 media give me a .4 ph increase and last over 10 days. If you do the price break down using the largest case pack of each brand to get a cost to refill the cartridge. Then calculate how much it cost you per day to use the media. The other brand is actually more effective and cheaper. However this product does do what it’s intended to do....
return to previous product
Media last no more than half of what the old stuff used to and doesn't work as effectively. Period.
I was optimistic about the product at first but it did help. I started at 7.8 and using the product 8.3.
Co2 scrubbers do work! I have two. One on both of my tanks. There seems to be a lot of complaints on the exhaustion rates of the media. That's for you to decide. However, I'm here to warn of using what seems to be a popular hookup method of running the air intake off of the skimmer collection cup. This does keep the media in contact with moist air and recirculate low co2 air but beware, if your collection cup overflows and the scrubber begins to pull in water your in trouble. The media reacts similiar to kalkwaser and can decimate a tank. I have learned this the hard way. If you plan to run this type of setup, you ABSOLUTLEY MUST, have some fail safes in place. I now run a float valve via apex break out box on skimmer lid. If the collection cup overflows, the float valve kills the skimmer before the co2 scrubber can overflow. Additionally, running a ph probe at a location that can catch drastic ph jumps and kill return pumps is advisable as well. Great product, but use wisely.
Last about 1/2 as long as the previous media that BRS sold. Wish that they would go back to the previous product.
First couple bags i bought worked great, ph would climb above 8.2. The most recent purchase doesn't change the ph at all. At first i thought it was the tank so i moved it to my other tank with the same lack of results.
This new formula does not seem to deplete as evenly as the small sphere type. Because the pieces are not uniform I have some of the media not changing color on one side as fast as the other. Most likely to that side have more smaller particles blocking more air. This is after my first fill of the new type so we will see if it happens on the next fill.
been running a co2 scrubber for a few weeks. a few ups and downs. but the downs were my fault. My first order was purchased on a friday and expected day to receive the product is always on a thursday. which is not correct. I always receive it on a mondays or early tuesday morning. the product works like it should but doesn't last as long as I thought. i'm on my last bit of co2 media. that hasn't caked up yet. but I am not pulling air from the room. the skimmer is hooked up to the co2 scrubber than runs through the scrubber and back out to the air intake of the skimmer. I t raises the ph drastically the first 24 hours than after that it struggles to get to the proper ph after that. the last 2 nights it has hit 7.9 ph as a high. could of been higher I think but the local power company turned off the power to the area I live in to fix a blown generator. so I truely don't know if it will hit 8.0 ph wise. so far yes i'm happy with the results. but still in the early phases on how the media will last when recyling the air from the skimmer to scrubber and back to the skimmer air intake. time will tell.
On July 2nd I ordered a jumbo reactor and a single "smaller" cartridge refill just to test the unit and the recirculating method BRS showed on their video. I've been hesitant to use CO2 scrubbing media because of the cost of media and how quickly it gets consumed. The recirculating method is perfect. I'm positive I would have burned a small refill in the 3 weeks its been on my tank but its only 1/3 to 1/4 used up so far. Although the blue/purple dye is hard to see, if I shine my cell phone light at it, I can see it well enough. However, you should be monitoring increased pH not the color of the media. My pH has always been 7.8-8.1 throughout the day. Now, it stays in the 8.0-8.4 range. I expect a single cartridge bag to last 9+ weeks, on my system, with the recirculating method. 1-2 Stars if not using recirculating modification (due to cost of media refill) 5 Stars when using the mod
The old media was great! This stuff is junk and lasts maybe a day or 2. I purchased a huge container from medvet for half the cost of brs’s. Do not buy from here.
First time using a co2 scrubber, initially I was impressed, but all of a sudden my ph dropped and the media didn't change color. Media lasted approx 2 weeks. Going to have to try running an air line outside the house because this is not sustainable.
I am not sure if I got a bad batch. This grinded up soda lime is useless. I pin pointed my low PH due to high CO2 levels, so I bought this media thinking it was the same quality used in surgery , It is absolutely not. I work in surgery so I am very familiar with soda sorb used in the equipment. I was quite surprised when I opened up the 7.5lbs bag and it was grounded up and not pellets which is what medical grade is and uses. This media barely has a indicator to tell when it is used up, medical grade turns a deep bright purple. The media also only raised my ph by 0.15, when i raise my windows it goes up past 8.0. I live in Texas so raising my windows is not ideal , It is either in the 100s or in the 30s very few months I can open windows. I will definitely be trying the TFL CDX or just the Medical grade Soda Sorb from now on.
The new CO2 scrubber is no where near as good as the old spherical product. Problems I’ve noted after using it for several months - their is much more dust that has caused caking within the scrubber cartridge. The color change is MUCH fainter than the spherical media resulting in throwing away still good media when I couldn’t tell through the cartridge if it was expended. Also it seems that the media is used up faster, though I don’t have hard data to prove it. BRS, please go back to the old spherical media, this stuff isn’t up to the task.
It works fine but the life span is very bad compared to the older pellets. Please bring back the pellets
I have beenusing this product for about 2 konths jow, and thr media dors not last, as I am having to change it less than 2 weeks, previous brands imI have used lasted juch longer and kept my pH much higher. Typically BRS brands are reliable which is why I switched to it in tbe first place, my mistake. Once exhausted, I do not intend on purchasing this product again.
Recently put this in a cheap media reactor during the winter months to keep my ph up. My ph now stays at 8.3 oh higher even while using a carbon dosing method. I noticed alkalinity consumption increased over the course of a week. I also put a valve on the intake and output of the reactor so I can only use it at night when ph is lowest. This allows for the absorbant to last longer. I only use it when I need it.
I have been using this product for about a year now. About a few months ago BRS switched to a new formula and as another reviewer has said the new formula works but doesn’t last as long. The old formula would last two weeks, the new formula last about five days now. A little disappointing consider it last roughly half as long but the new formula isn’t half the price.
I was using the Two Little Fishes CO2 media and really liked it. The size bottle is the perfect size to properly fill the average reactor and if saved, the empty bottle provides the perfect way of disposing of the depleted media. Dumping used CO2 media in the drain or garbage can is a bad idea but if you put the used media back in the empty bottle, disposal is safe and clean. Also, the TLF media goes from white to dark purple. The color change is drastic and moves steadily down through the media. I bought the BRS media because of the price and all the glowing reviews. First, the BRS media comes in a large foil bag so I have to use a cup to dish the media out. Also, the color change is so slight that I couldn’t even tell it had changed at all. I had the reactor filled and hooked up for a week and saw no color change. I called BRS because I was afraid my batch was defective but was told that the BRS media was designed to last longer and I may not notice a color change as quickly. Another week or two went by and I still saw no visual change but when I tested, my pH had plummeted. I pulled the reactor out and looked at the media. I had to put a piece of white paper next to it to tell if there was a color change. It was so slight you could hardly see it. With the reactor under an aquarium cabinet, I have no hope of knowing when to change the media. Maybe I got a bad batch. I don’t know. But I think I’m going to go back to the TLF media. As much as I love BRS and their products, this is one I won’t likely purchase again.
Product works but the new formula doesn't last as long. I went from a 7 days to 4 after the switched.
Works great.. raised ph in about 6 hours only suggestions I have is mabye a clear canister so you can see the color a little better. I have found an old clear one and swapped it out works great
I live in San Diego, and my tank is in my well ventilated living room. I tried reverse lighting adding macro algae, dosing additives, improving flow and water changes. All with limited and temporary success. I could not get my tank ph over 7.85. My pH would fall to 7.45 during a nocturnal cycle yand my tank hitting a pH of 8.0 seemed like a fantasy. It was very frustrating. My tank parameters were well within the accepted norms. It simply made no sense. This was my first thought but was persuaded not to by my LFS. I finally cave. I am so happy i did. Now my pH is consistently between 8.1- 8.2 . I wish there was a larger media size.
So glad to see this back in stock! The new media is working great, and the price is so much better. That was my only complaint before. There's nothing better for keeping my tank's ph stable and in the proper range.
This stuff is great but it can be a little pricey but so important to have in any efficient home that traps CO2 in the house. After using this stuff, my pH went from a 7.8 -7.9, even as low as 7.65 to a higher range of 8.05 at night and a high of 8.20 during the day. So worth it to keep my pH up in my tank!!!
I feel the only fair way to review a product like this is to ask: Does it do what is claimed? Reviewing it on price, how long it lasts or anything like that is unfair and incorrect in my opinion. It is pretty safe to say that the science says this media will remove CO2 and that is proven. If if it didn't work on your tank, chances are very high you implemented it incorrectly, your testing device is broken or you have larger problems that need to be resolved. The media comes well packaged and easy to use. It changes color when depleted and is scrubbing excess CO2 from the air it is drawing in. Pretty simple. You can't knock the product because you don't like the price. If it is too expensive, don't buy it.
Maybe I got lucky, but my ph went from a steady 7.9 to a 8.1 overnight. Wish the media lasted longer.
This stuff works great just wish it was cheaper.
It works great this brand just does not last as long as the medical grade stuff I got off eBay but it does work flawlessly
I have two dogs in the house and we live in the hot Arizona environment so opening windows and doors is out of the question. I placed the media with the CO2 scrubber and it raised my tank PH from 7.9-8.1. So it worked as I had hoped. The only thing is that the absorbent will last maybe two weeks then it needs to be replaced. This could be costly long term. Go with the BRS team suggestion and try to run the absorbent only when PH drops if that's a possibility. I've since ran a hose outside connected to my skimmer. This has helped a lot with stability and my wife can't see the holes so she's cool with it.
Problem I have is the PH is always at 7.8 and using PH increasing additives will increase PH but within 12 hours my PH is back to 7.8 and with PH additives your Alkalinity goes thru the roof. So I did online chat with BRS and they suggested the CO2 absorbent, so I gave this a try after 2 weeks and changing media when it turned purple, my PH is still at 7.8 so unlike the dozens of reviews of people having overnight success I was not one of those. Now that I have a $50 gallon of this product setting in my home I will not order anymore.
I use with an old BRS reactor, on my 55 gallon tank it lasted about three months, but with my 110, and a bigger skimmer, it won't last half that long, might be too expensive to keep buying!
It worked great from the start. pH went from 7.80 to 8.10 to 8.2 at night to 8.35 during the day. That said I had to change it every week which was going to get expensive. So I use the CO2 scrubber to the skimmer at night to keep pH swing minimal and ran a line from outside to my skimmer during the day. Keeps pH from 8.1 to 8.35. Now only changing it every 10 days to 2 weeks.
I have a 220 gallon tank. I have tried just about everything out there to get my ph up. with in 48 hours i was at a 8.3 my tank has ran at 7.8 to 7.9 since i set it up 6 months ago. i was tired of doing huge water change. trying chemical. it would always raise up then fall back to 7.8. i had a old media reactor laying around and figure i would try this stuff. i can finally add my calcium reactor and feel better about my ph levels.
I have used this product on my skimmer air intake and it has worked extremely well. It has kept my PH between 8.2-8.3. I change it out every week as its looses its effectiveness towards in about that amount of time. I use in conjunction with a two part dosing regime which I have on dosing pumps.
Works as described. Keeps pH up with my Calcium Reactor and low tank pH. I have to change it every 6 days though so its got a high price tag associated with it. I might try extending the intake line to a different room in conjunction with this product in order to extend the life.
before I started using the co2 absorbent my ph was a low of 7.85 & a high of 8.15. Now its 8.09 overnite and 8.30 during the day. Great stuff and lasts longer than I thought it would.
Running on JBJ 28 gal NanoCube through Reef octopus HOB 90 cone skimmer air intake. Ph consistantly at 8.3. This product raised my ph to 8.3, and as a bonus eliminated the ph swing.
If you have low PH issues this is your easiest fix. I hooked mine up to my skimmer and converted a BRS GFO/carbon reactor to put the media in and works like a charm. Before my PH peaked at 8 and the low point at 7.7. Now with the media it peaks at 8.3 and the low point is 8.1.
Hooked it to my skimmer air intake using reactor...pH increased in about 48 hours from 8.0 to 8.22 and held constant
Product works great only draw back is I have to change it every week
I run this through a BRS reactor to a Vortex Omega 150 protein skimmer. I run my 120 gallon tank with an Apex Fusion controller with lab grade probes. There Apex shows no difference in pH with this product. Maybe it would work on a smaller tank.
The product works well in the appropriate reactor. Does exactly what it describes. I like the color change option, no guessing when it's been consumed.
Have used this product for a few weeks so far hasn't raised my ph at all. Not sure how much to use since I have a big tank (300 gallons) I filled the reactor full and has already turned purple. So I changed it out. But at this rate it will cost me 50$ a month and let it still hasn't raised my ph.
This does what its supposed to do removes co2 it keeps your ph higher and more stable.
It works!
Works exactly as you would expect, removing CO2 which increases your PH (at least it did that for me). I only wish the color change would last longer and not go from white to purple (lavender?) back to white. Of course when you test and your PH starts to go down you know its time to replace.
This product has not only help cut down the CO2 but has kept my PH at 8.0- 8.2. Before my Ph would go from 7.6 - 8.0 through out the day while ALk levels was as high as 11. Now I can kepep the ALK at 9 /10 with the Ph stable.
The product does what it advertises, the only complaint I have is that it exhaust quicker than advertise. I normally have to replace the media every 2 weeks. With that said, this is been the only way I have been able to stabilize my PH. Before the CO2 scrubber my PH would drop below 7.8 and now Im able to maintain it at around 8.0
I was having issues with my PH being to low. I did some research to correct it and found that the CO2 levels where affecting my PH. If I had friends over I would see a rapid drop in my tanks PH. We do not open the doors or windows much as it is very hot in Florida. I first tried a different brand to see if a CO2 scrubber would work which it did. When I discovered BRS and there CO2 media I tried it and am very happy with the results. It works and stabilizes my PH using a reactor connected to my skimmer air intake.
I love this stuff. I am not really able to open up windows for 3+ months/year due to North Dakota's crazy winters. This keeps my pH between 8.1 and 8.4 consistently. I run it in a BRS reactor.
This stuff does what it says. I noticed a change right away, ph stayed higher at night with less swings. I live in an apartment with a lot of trapped co2. The major con is that the media does not last long. I have been running a canister on my reef octopus skimmer for about 5 days now and its nearly exhausted and ph is back down to were it was. So I don't know if I would consider this a fix for the problem. If you can, run your skimmer line outside for fresh oxygen.
I had been having ph problems for months and could not open all of the windows in my house year-round nor could I justifiably run an airline from my tank to the outdoors. To solve the problem I bought the BRS Universal Air Filter along with this CO2 Absorbent. Both have been working great and ph has come up. Before running the air filter on my skimmer air intake my ph was 7.4-7.6 day and night. Now after running this for only a few days my ph has been steady at 7.7-7.8 and occasionally peaks at 7.9 at the tail end of the day. The media is being used up quite quickly but I'm assuming that is because I have a rather high CO2 concentration in my home. This is definitely a good product that I would recommend to anyone with low ph issues related to CO2 levels.
Many of us reefers cannot be satisfied if any of the parameters of our tank fall outside of what is considered to be the 'acceptable norm.' Only after countless attempts to improve what I felt was too low of pH range (e.g. 7.78 to 7.9X) did I discover a few things about pH. After reading several articles, I came across one written by Randy Holmes-Farley. Only after reading two publications on pH and Alkalinity did I understand how to better manage pH. What did I discover? It was the concentration of CO2 in the air that was depressing the pH in my mixed reef! But how could I overcome the air (concentrations) within my home? 1.) Open the windows. Nope. I live in Florida where it is warm-hot much of the year. 2.) Run a feeding line through the wall to the outside to draw fresh air to my tank. Nope. This one doesn't pass the "wife-test." 3.) Utilize a CO2 scrubber. Yes! Soon after I received my BRS Media Reactor and CO2 color changing Media did I see an improvement in pH. Installation of the Reactor (and the Media) was a snap. The BRS Reactor comes with quality airline tubing and a media container. Just add the color changing media to the container, then add one teaspoon of RO water to the cylinder, then drop the container into the Reactor. Now connect the Reactor to your skimmer. The airline feeding my skimmer was connected to the OUT line of the reactor. I used the provided quality tubing provided to make this connection. In this configuration, the Reactor pulls in air from the room, scrubs it, then delivers it to the skimmer ('scrubbed' of excess CO2). How much of an improvement was achieved? Well prior to the installation, the pH (on the low side) was 7.6X, with higher side at 7.8X. With the scrubber operational, I noticed about a .15 to .20 increase in pH. Now the pH (on the low side) was 7.8X, with the higher reading (after the midday lighting was achieved) of 8.0X. Success! Am I satisfied? Yes. By the way, I have been using this product now for 10 months with good results.
This another great product from BRS. it solves what most of us experience and that is low PH. my PH was running between 7.7 and 8.0. Using this product I am able to maintain a more stable PH between 7.9 and 8.3. The downfall of course is price and the longevity of the media will depend on how much CO2 is in your house so results will vary by user. In the mean time this will work for me but in the future I think I will try an air line from the outdoors to my skimmer. I think I will be able to maintain the same results. Another great product from BRS!!!
Bought this to raise my pH levels. Raised my pH level 3 points in 24 hours. Clean and dust-free.
I had a low PH problem and this was the cure for it. Works as stated can not live with out it.
I couldn't get the PH of my tank out of the 7.7-7.8 range. For 8 months of the year between the AC and the heat, the house is pretty much sealed tight with windows and doors closed. Tank is in a position where running an airline from my skimmer to the outside was not an option. Started using the CO2 absorbent and within 24 hrs. PH went from 7.87 to 8.15
