I calibrated the unit multiple times but I still don't get nitrate readings that are near what my Hanna tester gives me. Also, when using a known calibration solution, I don't get the correct value. I had high hopes for this machine as the original trident (ACM) works well for me.
I have had the earlier Trident which was fussy and i have sent it back multiple times for refurbish. The parameters it measures are valuable. The Trident NP clears itself with the Clorox wash. Nitrates and Phosphates have been the toughest things to test for and maintain. The NP tells you everyday what the numbers are, all you have todo is open your app. I was not successful with corals until I started to open my app and took actions to correct these measurements. It took me a while to get there, fine tuning, overcorrecting and finally getting it to acceptable levels. Best tool to stay informed IMO on the most important factors to successful coral care
I've had to work out some issues with mine and most have been little things of getting to know how it works. The only thing I will complain about it the noise ... This thing puts off a high pitch whine noise when the motors are running that are SUPER annoying. Also, Neptune makes it where you can't adjust the testing times so at midnight, every night guess what I hear... There are online hacks to work around this but this should be a basic user setting when customization is the name of the game with this companies products.
Out of the box I was skeptical so I was checking on the readings with my Hannah tester. It was within an acceptable tolerance so I started trusting the readings and stopped with my Hannah. Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long and it was reading that there was nitrate and phosphate in the system but it was really down to zero / zero and dinos appeared in the tank. I tried to replace the reagents and recalibrate it and I thought that fixed it. I tested and verified the nitrates was within about 2 points and the phosphate was reading zero. I started trying to raise the nutrients by adding phosphates and the NP continued to show there was 0.0. I added a bit more and it went up to 0.01 so I thought it was working but sadly it wasn’t. There was really way too much in the system but it says there’s none. I can’t trust it so why even bother with it.
I felt similar to many of you in the beginning. I wasn’t getting accurate readings. But I then had my service tech check my water himself with his testers and my Hanna was the issue. The low battery was giving me higher readings than trident. Trident NP was only off by 2 on nitrates and 0.02 on phos. I think it’s more than reasonable. I personally love it and the peace of mind keeps me easy.
Readings are all over the place day after day. Not accurate whatsoever. Please don’t waste your money on this thing like I did.
Innacurate from day one they need to be real trident np trident. Has been a constant issue of fails and error and issues. So be prepared to spend hours troubleshooting and then spent money on more reagents that don't give accurate results. Apex has made reefing complicated in my experience.
Neptune products are overpriced pieces of junk right out of the box. Build quality is awful, i highly regret buying the trident np and regular trident. They come apart easily, you need hours if not days of troubleshooting to get them to work properly. After years of making the trident you would think they would improve on the design, But no ! Same old JUNK !
After having my trident NP four a couple of months, all of my phosphate test have come zero. Other test show that phosphates are not zero. Customer service is taking weeks without getting to the problem. The cost of this device does not reflect its accuracy. I expected higher for such an investment into my aquarium. If customer service is able to turn this around and fix the problem, I will change my rating. I love the idea of this device and the potential. Quite honestly, I would spend more than what it cost to get accurate readings. Additionally, I love Neptune and their other devices. They are my number one go to company. I most certainly hope that they rectify the situation.
I own two. Both worked great for a few months and then both PO4 measurements failed by measuring the same value daily despite calibration and way off from ICP and Hanna. Neptune does not seem how to fix this at present
Been using for over 6 weeks now. Results match with my Hanna testers. No more manual testing now
I just did my first Reagent change and numbers are very close to the last test so very happy with the results.
I have mine delivered now in Week three, and all I get for results (0,0) are goose eggs. When using a Hanna Checker to test at the same time period from the exact general location, I get results that are believable. I ended up placing a ticket via Neptune, and I am now in week two to try and figure out what the issue is with this one. Mine take about ONE hour and 22 minutes to test.
My NP system works great. Automated checking once a day provided me with nutrient patterns I hadn't expected. If you don't think you need it daily, great; move to manual until you do. This will come in handy when I'm away for extended periods. Exceptionally accurate. Unlike manual testing, the NP performs a series of tests and provides a calculated mean. Hopefully, soon, the software will allow the dosing of carbon and/or phosphate-E to be driven by NP results.
I love Neptune products so it saddens me to write this review. I have purchased 4 of these units and have been testing the units for over a month, here are my findings. The nitrates are consistently reading low, somewhere between 2 and 8 ppm low, every test, every unit. Phosphates constantly reads either 0.00 or 0.01, cannot get it to read higher, as my phosphates have been consistently over 0.03 in all tanks since I got the units. I feel like these issues could be resolved pretty easily through calibration, but you CANNOT calibrate the unit without buying the calibration solution from Neptune. You CANNOT calibrate using tank water or another standard, so you cannot “adjust” the poor readings that the units continue to deliver. Overall I’d say to just go spend the $60 each on the Hanna checkers, which will save you over $500 and save you the headache.
