Seaside Aquatics Ceramic Bio Spheres are advanced filter media designed to significantly enhance the biological filtration capacity of your aquarium. Composed of thousands of tiny ceramic balls fused into a single sphere, this innovative media provides an ultra-high surface area for beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria to colonize. By offering extensive real estate for bacterial growth, these bio spheres effectively process ammonia and nitrite, contributing to a stable and healthy aquatic environment. Each bio sphere is engineered for durability, being rock hard yet remarkably light and porous, ensuring optimal water flow and colonization. A single sphere boasts an approximate surface area of 600 square feet, packed into a compact form factor with a diameter of 31mm and a height of 28mm. A typical 1lb package includes approximately 20 spheres, along with a convenient mesh bag for easy placement and maintenance within your sump or filtration system. These bio spheres are an excellent solution for aquarists seeking to maximize biological filtration without the need for excessive live rock, allowing for more minimalist and aesthetically pleasing aquascapes. They are ideal for both saltwater reef tanks and freshwater aquariums where a robust biological filter is crucial but space is at a premium. By utilizing this compact and efficient media, hobbyists can achieve pristine water quality and support a thriving ecosystem with reduced physical footprint.

These are great! I've had eight bags in my sump now for a few months. They don't disintegrate like some other ceramic media products. It's nice being able to move the bags around, shake them out, transfer to QT when needed, etc. and not have to worry about them turning into dust. Seems like the biological filtration capabilities are working as advertised. Granted they don't hold massive amounts of water like the main competitor (so undoubtedly they have lower surface area), but it's worth it IMO since they don't fall apart.
