Ran this light over my chaeto fuge for more than 6 months. It grew the chaeto extremely well and could sit close to the water without issue. It was putting out 500-600 PAR for me which is more than enough. It would make a great FW planted light
After 2 weeks, a section of the light unable to turn off while the rest of the light fully off. The led light very nice build, but the quality is bad.
The light performs great. I am using this over a 40 gallon planted tank with assorted rainbowfish. I adjusted the settings to maximize color of the plants and fish and it was easy to get to the look I wanted. Birmani, Turquoise and Yellow Rainbowfish insanely color pop under this light. The Mobius app worked fine to complete these tweaks. The only thing that I would recommend is that a moonlight mode be added. I like the blue affect for about a half hour before lights out.
I purchased a small one of these after seeing the review at Kaveman Aquatics just so I could see for myself whether a new light would make a difference for my tanks. The answer is yes! Lighting is leaps and bounds ahead of what was available just a few years. 1. The out of the box mounting rests nice on the tank. 2. The color (for freshwater) is pleasant with an adjustable brightness. I'm using with water that has tannins and the bright light really makes the colors pop! 3. Easy to install the app and I just selected the default schedule. You can get more precise for your needs. Yes these are pricey, but I recommend them.
This is a great light, it does take some finagling to get things looking right, but such is the story for lighting. It's almost right for the price point; and I do like it better than the Fluval Planted that I have. Unfortunately, at the price point of this vs a Prime unit - it's a bit hard to decide if you're flexible on your aesthetics and mounting options. I'm docking a point because of the price when comparing to a prime 16.
I’ll start off by saying that it’s by no means a bad light. The build quality is great and it looks very slick. Almost zero profile on my tank with the Provided mounts which is fantastic. However, if you’re looking for a product that gives the same impact as the prime, this is not for you. For starters it only has 3 channels to control, and all of them are linked to either cool or warm white LED’s so you cant control individual colors like every other model. The spectrum is also very different than the prime or hydra spectrum which is a massive bummer. For starters there are actually zero green LED’s which means your plants look washed out and lackluster, which they did on my tank. The red is actually fairly intense which is a nice surprise. The last bit on spectrum regards the cool white LED’s, which overpower pretty much every other color and it makes it very difficult to make the spectrum look pleasing to the eye for a freshwater tank. It winds up being a weird hazy cyan color and makes the tank look fuzzy. With 16 cool whites and only 4 warms, it just completely washes out the definition and color rendition we loved in the primes. It winds up looking like the stock light that comes with a box store kit just brighter. If youre looking for a great plant light, i suggest sticking with the primes or any other light designed for plant use. If you just want a sleek looking light for a fish only tank, then this will work ok.
