Tropic Marin Bio-Actif Salt Mix is a professionally formulated synthetic sea salt designed to promote ideal conditions in modern reef aquariums. It contains naturally occurring marine biopolymers and bioactive substances that protect and enhance the growth of corals and other marine fauna. These unique additives lead to more vibrant coloration, improved robustness in corals, and increased protection for fish by supporting their natural mucous membranes, resulting in a healthier and more active aquatic environment.
The salt mix is crafted from pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, ensuring it is completely free of unwanted nitrates and phosphates. It provides a balanced blend of all major and minor trace elements necessary for a thriving reef ecosystem. When mixed, it achieves stable parameters ideal for coral health, with an approximate alkalinity of 8 dKH, calcium levels around 440 ppm, and magnesium at approximately 1350 ppm, creating a consistent foundation for your aquarium's water chemistry.
This salt is specifically engineered for reefkeepers utilizing an Ultra-Low Nutrient System (ULNS), particularly those who employ carbon dosing methods. The integrated bio-active agents and carbon elements support the unique biological processes of these advanced systems, helping to maintain stability while promoting the health and vitality of sensitive corals. It is the perfect choice for hobbyists seeking to replicate natural marine conditions and achieve exceptional results in a nutrient-controlled reef tank.

Great salt for safe carbon dosing. I wouldn't recommend on a brand new system but I would definitely recommend once you have an abundance amount of bacteria within the tank. It's been a couple weeks and my water still has a slight hazy look to it but it is because my system is too new. For the time being I'm just using the TM pro salt and once the tank progresses I'll be incorporating this back into my weekly water changes.
Well folks, after leaving Tropic Marin because of cost and a thinking wallet , Im back , 2 years of trying a few other salts not to mention a huge die off because of a bad batch of salt from a major company, I use three buckets of salt a month so when I order it’s 6 at a time , evs was a good salt stable as one can get but it never gave my corals the pop and wow factor after a water change, I can say when you pay more for something and it works far above your expectations , what else do you do , but buy more and try to save money elsewhere, the bio synthetic salt is like everyone said a little film on the surface and brown binders left in the mixing container but crystal clear the next day , , one thing I do recommend is turn off your UV and skimmer to let the bio bacteria settle in on your surfaces to start its thing, your paying for it let it do its job, after just a few water changes your tank will respond to each one after that , corals are more vibrant and extremely reactive, feeding of coral foods are more readily taken in
This salt mixes, hands down better than any other than ESV and I've now tried them all over the course of 20 years. I used to use Tropic Marin but switched to this when I started carbon dosing. Ultra stable when mixed and can be stored. The brown "film" is bio active (bio-actif in German!) and SHOULD be there!! Use Tropic Marin Pro-Reef if not low nutrient/dosing carbon!
I have been using this salt for about 6 months and couldn't be happier. Corals responded after the first water change!! There are 3 things that are downsides but are manageable being the overall positives i've seen. 1. it does mix up a little cloudy, however the next day the tank is crystal clear. From what I understand its from the organic polymers. 2. it leaves a brown film that should be cleaned after every batch is mixed. 3. it must be used between 24-48 hours after mixing. As stated, i find the benefits far greater than the negatives. mixing buckets should be cleaned regularly. However long term storage is an issue for those with auto water change systems.
My experience with the Tropic Marin Bio-Actif salt mix has been positive. One pro tip on mixing the salt mix is taking your time adding the salt mix a little bit at a time rather than just pour the full amount of salt. I have found that adding the salt over the course of 10 minutes reduces the issue with precipitation or cloudy or murky water. I will admit that there is a bit of slight haziness to the water but that is due to the activation of the Actif biopolymers in this particular salt mix. Using a Sicce 2.0 does make quick work of fully dissolving the synthetic salt mix in my brute mixing container. Normally takes 15-20 minutes after my water changes that my main display is much clearer. Even more so than before the water change. The Acropora, Stylophora and other SPS respond positively and have better polyp extension as well. If you feel the haziness is too much for you use the Tropic Marin Pro Reef and add the Reef Actif to your liking. Also, Lou from Tropic Marin has a great video on youtube on tips on how to mix their salt as well. Voila! you are ready to enjoy your reef. Cheers!
corals don't seem to respond as well as they do to tropic marin reef salt. this salt mixes with a "oil slick". Also leaves behind a brown film, not a fan.
