Been using this salt for years and never had a issue Dissolves fast and I use it for my reef and fish tanks..
Plenty of online shops seem to jack up the price to cover higher shipping costs, but not BRS. When I buy this at my LFS the bottom of the bag is always soaked through and hardened up. Arrives safe and sound from BRS without the moisture intrusion.
I am new to reefing and bought this because it was recommended. I have 2 bulk bags from the initial set up of the tank. Almost done the first 1 and finally got testing equipment for the 3 main elements. My calcium is at 350 ppm, magnesium is at 800 ppm, and alk is 7.2 dKH. Decided to open up the 2 bag just to see if the results would be the same and unfortunately they were the same results. I will not be purchasing this salt again
Right now I am using this in my frag grow out tank the is almost finished cycling. Will update if anything changes. But plan on switching my 15 gal nano display over from LFS premix. Shipping as always was great. Ordered and arrived 2 days later thanks BRS
Great salt, mixes up quick with no crude in my bucket. Fish and coral seem to be happy and always test within expect parameters.
order received in good time , good prices easy ordering on web site.
BRS is the best company around for supplies. I will never order supplies from anyone else. Customer service is superior to all others. If you ever have an issue just contact them and they will make it right no questions asked. 5+ stars all day long. thanks BRS
I'm a carryover from the Marine Depot merger and decided to use a coupon MD sent to test things out. Decent enough price for Red Sea blue bucket, so I ordered a 55gal bucket to see how shipping went with BRS. It arrived in a thin cardboard box padded with a single half-inch piece of styro. Bucket was shattered and 1/4 to 1/3 of the salt was spilled, the rest starting to clump due to humidity. I sent pictures, pointed out the bad packaging, they reshipped. Fast forward to today. Same thing. Poor packaging, bucket cracked open, salt everywhere. I'm not even going to both with another reshipment. Not sure how they can be so bad at shipping such a common commodity. If every other retailer can get it right, so can BRS. Maybe I got lucky as a customer of MD but I never had an issue or poor shipping experience in their entire existence. And maybe I just experienced a bad couple orders from BRS. But it's supremely disappointing overall. 5 stars for salt, negative a million stars for packaging.
Been using this for over 5 years on my SPS display tank with consistent results, I have not lost 1 coral. Does leave residue in mixing container similar to IO.
Switched to Red Sea to try their salt instead of the same old Reef Crystals like normal. Been reefing for 15 years or so. Wanted to try RS in hopes of less brown crap (clay) in my bulk mixing container. Unfortunately when I received the first bucket of Red Sea Blue mix, I mixed the salt per the directions and then tested the perimeters. Unfortunately the results was very disappointing. Mixed at 70* then increased to 77* (tank temp) @ 1.025 I’m only getting Alk 6.4 , Ca 300, Mag 800 Ummm so not good. Tried mixing several different ways in hopes of better results and no difference or improvement. Batch number area on the bucket is blank unfortunately. Contacted BRS and they quickly sent me out a new bucket. THANKS BRS Bucket number 2 and once again no batch number on the bucket and poor results. This bucket results @ 1.025 Alk 6.4, Ca 320, didn’t even both wasting any mag reagent. On both buckets of mix I followed the directions to a T. Also tried heating the water to 77*F and then mixing. The results this way was pretty much the same. All testing equipment has been calibrated and are showing accurate results. AS A BIG NOTE: If Red Sea would actually put the batch number on the stupid bucket I would know if I simply getting the very poor results from the same batch yet different buckets or if they have a multiple batch issue. My opinion on that is poor quality control. GUESS ILL BE TRYING SOMETHING ELSE.
I have used BRS for the past two years and the service, support, products and shipping is outstanding! Case in point: I just received the 175 gallon bucket of Red Sea Salt and it arrived in pristine condition. I used to use other venders, only to have the salt arrive in broken buckets and contaminated,NOT with BRS, I no longer order any of my products from any other source. Not to mention their outstanding reefing videos in you tube, again outstanding service and support to the entire staff!
Have used a few different salts, Red Sea is at the top of my list.I ordered one small bucket, BRS must have cracked one during packing, so they sent a second bucket at no extra charge!! Thanks again BRS for the great customer service. Definitely be ordering again.
I have been using the blue bucket for several months and it always mixes to the exact parameters on the label and does not leave residue like some other salt mix does. Unlike what a lot of others have stated my bucket was well packaged and in perfect condition when it arrived.
I wanted to add a review because of all of that bad reviews that are posted here. I received my bucket today of the 175 gallon. It was not broken. It was packed tightly in a box with styrofoam around it. Brs did a great job packing it.
I could not be happier with this salt for stability. I always test my water change water on the first batch of any new salt I buy. I have never, not once, gotten anything other then 8 dkh, 430 cal 1280 mag. For those of you who may think those numbers are low, they may be for your tank. Be careful with the pro. That stuff runs hot and if your not one for numbers, doing a water change may well kill all your coral. As for me, I don't run dKh at 11. I run it at 9, and mag at 1350, and I don't test calcium(in my tank hint to newbies: if you know your alk then you know your calcium). The regular red sea allows me to add exactly what I need to match my existing water parameters, whether it be 8.8, 8.9, 9 or 9.1. Some people use another brand which leaves a residue. I have found variance in it. Enough to stunt growth. I highly recommend this salt
I have used Red Sea Blue bucket Salt for a couple of years now. Mixes the same every time. My coral and fish are happy. Mixes clear in about 30 min. No plans on changing salt at this time.
I have been using this salt for awhile now and I have never been happier after I switched salts. All the levels I want in a salt mix is in this. It dissolves easy and I have had no issues with anything being left in the bottom of my mixing barrel. Also shipping was great as well.
Got mine today and packaging was good the bucket is intact which I was worried from other reviews but it was intact bucket has no cracks
I ordered 4 of the 175 gallon buckets and they arrived in a timely manner. The only issue I have is that all 4 of the buckets or severely cracked.
Salt is good but the last 4 times ive got a bucket (big or small) the bucket was broken and twice the salt was hydrated due to being open. BRS took care of it fast and made it right, like the pros they are, however I have moved on to a better packaged salt.
For years I was using the Pro coral salt which has a higher Alk but my tank is very low on nutrient even with skimmer off. My corals are happy at DKH 7-8 and this salt is perfect for that. It also mixes very easily too.
I bought this because it has great reviews and I'm sure it will give my reef tank all the nutrients it needs once I mix it and put it in the tank. However the handling and packaging it comes in is not the best. One of the canisters has a big crack all the way down the side. It doesn't look like the bag inside ripped or that that salt has been contaminated. But it could have easily been punctured and I would have been left with a ox full of contaminated salt. BRS please find a way to package these containers better so that this doesn't happen.
Great product, dissolves fast and no residue! Consistent every bucket!
Over the years I've used Coral Pro, Aquaforest Reef Salt, and NeoMarine. Eight months ago I switched to Red Sea Salt as I was not the least bit pleased with the results I was seeing with the Aquaforest. I'm very glad I switched. I have mostly softies, and they have responded to this salt wonderfully. It dissolves almost instantly, leaves absolutely no residue or scale, and can be ready quickly in an emergency. It is far and away the best salt I have used. Try it!
Recently switched from RS Pro to this to help lower my fresh SW dKH. Very happy I did. The salt produces exactly what is on the label each and every time I make a batch. This is not always true of other brand salt mixes as many reefers will attest to. I even ICP tested fresh batches twice and the parameters where nearly perfect each time. This was from two different buckets months apart. Years ago the trend was to keep your Alk in the 11-12 range and that is what I did with small amounts of success. Made the transition to the blue bucket and immediately saw improvements in SPS and LPS growth and polyp extension. This product allows for a much more reliable approach to 2-part dosing as well, with much more room to make adjustments in just Alk if that is what your system specifically requires.
Great salt but the bucket does not survive shipping. I have salt that is contaminated with packing popcorn bits. I want to buy this salt in a 200 gallon box like IO.
I've been using this salt for over 4 years. Very consistent, mixes quickly, no residues left behind, and mybatch is typically spot on. It has raised in price over the years, but it's too good of a salt for me to look for something cheaper.
A salt thats proclaimed numbers match. I was playing the chase game with another salt. I could not get my number's right because of the high calcium to alkalinity. So I switched to this salt. The "my batch" numbers were almost identical to what I tested my first batch at. Corals looked very happy after that first water change. No more chasing numbers, just maintaining with a good 2-part. I mix 2.5 cups at a time with 20 minutes in between then slowly raise the temperature to the tank's. Mixes clear in no time, PH stable in a few hours. This may vary considering many factors. Ordered three times and I have received the same batch number. This batch comes out to Alk, 8.6-8.7 Cal, 430-445, and Mag, 1390. I measure each new batch before it goes in the tank and they have been consistent with the "my batch" numbers. This has been a life saver. A great salt.
After a few months I will never use another salt switched from reef crystal after 7 years no more chasing numbers very stable great quality salt mix
It has been quality since the beginning. Been using it for over 10 years and it is always great.
A fantastic salt. Anyone who is unfamiliar, each bucket comes with a batch number on the lid that you can enter online to see the full lab analysis. Red Sea considers their process accurate enough to use as a "standard solution" - meaning, you can check the accuracy of your tests by simply adding a carefully weighed amount of salt to a carefully measured volume of RODI water and comparing this against the batch-specific lab results. Heck, if you're really particular about your parameters - you can check the batch values of each shipment of salt at your LFS then stock up when the time is right. Genius, well done Red Sea!
Good stuff !!!
I use this salt with great results. I run the Zeovit ULN system on my 150g, this salt help me maintain the Alk level that the ULN requires. Mixes clear really fast.
I purchased this salt mix partially for the supposed consistency of parameters, but mostly because the parameters are supposed to be close to that of natural seawater. Ca and Mg are exactly what the bucket says they should be, 420ppm and 1,250ppm respectively, but alkalinity consistently hovers around the 9.6 dKh, way too high for ULNS. Bucket says the mix should be between 7.8 and 8.2 dKh @ 35ppt. Tests performed with Salifert test kits, salt mix taken from different parts of the bucket. Will definitely be switching back to Instant Ocean when I need salt mix next. There is no value in paying the price premium for Red Sea salt if the parameters are not as advertised.
Love this salt mix, great for sps corals.
Started using this salt 1.5 years ago. Salt mixes per bucket specs everytime. From bucket to bucket it is very consistent within .2 on alk and 20 on calcium. By far the best salt I have ever used and keeps my sps very happy.
Love this salt, ive tried all sorts of salts and this blue bucket gives me what i needed, ULNS specs, but here we go,BRS is the best at customer service with that said ups is a black hole they lost my first bucket and told me it was out for delivery 5 days in a row, they told me they lost it finnaly and brs was sending another, not true brs didnt hear from ups so i told them what was going on, new bucket showed up at my house in 2 days, first bucket showed up a week later rather a bag of salt.
Although I haven't really found a bad salt, and I have tried others, This one gives me pretty accurate readings when testing... I will recommend it.
Great product! Easy to use. And my reef loves it. Red sea is #1
mixes super clear. NSW levels for zeovit! love it
I use the salt for the zeovit system because it is closer to natural seawater and has a lower kh that is required for an ultra low nutrient tank. Corals might not grow as fast but they grow healthier. Other salt I like is tropic Marin but this is priced more reasonably and closer to nsw.
I have purched this salt twice and the quality of my water has been consistent. Mixes easall in my mixing station.
love it will use nothing else did the job n did it great !!!
Was able to get it with free shipping. Mixed easily no left overs and have had no problems with get everything balanced.
I opened the UPS box and found the bottom of the bucket was badly broken. Thankfully this salt was inside of a bag that was in the bucket so it wasn't spilling everywhere. Unfortunately I had to find a different bucket to pour this salt into and then wrote down all of the directions/tables from the Red Sea bucket onto my replacement bucket. The plastic on the Red Sea bucket really doesn't seem quite as durable as other salt brands but hopefully this won't happen again. Other than the bucket issue I've been pleased so far with this salt. I run a low nutrient Zeovit system and need salt that's near NSW levels. I've used Reefer's Best and Aquavitro Salinity and this seems to be comparable for a much more reasonable price. It probably mixes clear more quickly than any salt I've used before.
This is my second time using this salt. I like it because it works well with the zeovit program which requires natural sea water like conditions. I chose this salt because of its lower DKH and desired levels of potassium keeps me from needing to re dose it after a water change. Keep in mind the whole point of this salt mix is to have a low DKH which is incredibly important when keeping a ultra low nutrient environment with sps corals. dkh above 8 can cause RTN of corals. When I read reviews on here that complain about the low DKH, they must not realize that it is low for a reason. If you need higher KH go for coral pro.
I'm nearly done with my first bucket and my Alk has been consistently low. Under 7 dKH. Ca and Mg have been fine and in line with stated levels. I have an auto water change pump from a 25g container doing 2g changes per day. I've had to constantly add sodium bicarbonate to increase Alk but with the incremental water change it's a losing battle. I started dosing Kalk in my ATO which has helped bring the Alk just over 7 dKH. The bucket says it should have at least 7.8 dKH. I have one more bucket at home I'll try before I switch to the pro salt, or something else. Low Alk is a serious issue so I'm giving 2 stars. If the next bucket is ok I'll change my rating and chalk it up to a bad batch.
well, maybe those looking to spend less money however the benefits of this tank for any and all purposes is unmatched. wanted to buy the "pro" but didn't want to only let mix for 4 hrs before water quality no longer optimal. this product will allow reefs of any size to flourish. glad i spent the money too!
Very impressed. Corals are already improving colors are more vibrant. Mixes very easily and consistently. Now to praise BRS for a moment. My order showed up busted and broken bucket and bag. Called BRS and they had a new one shipped out that day. Great product and company.
Ordered this salt to address low alkalinity with my previous salt mix. After two (2) 15% water changes, my alkalinity has started to get where it should be. Mixes very easily, and the S.G. has been right on the money for both batches.
Red Sea has a great reputation for a reason. After trying just about every aquarium salt I could get my little hands on, I've finally settled down! I tested it right out of the bucket and am very happy with the levels, I run a lightly stocked reef, so this may even be enough to keep me away from two part for awhile. At least until I get bitten by the Acro bug....
Switched from Instant Ocean to get a bit higher Alkalinity and couldn't be happier.
The bucket arrived today. It is shipped in a box with no additional packing material. The bucket I got arrived pretty much completely smashed. There's cracks all over the side and the salt is visible. Luckily it seems Red Sea puts the salt inside a bag inside of the bucket, so it does not seem that any salt has leaked out. I give the product high rating due to thinking to bag the salt in the bucket. The shipping is not Red Sea's fault.
Have been using this salt for last year switched from Tropic Marin Bio Actif. Having used just about every salt mix on the market this is easily my top choice. Inexpensive, consistent perfect for my ULNS tan, my SPS thank me for using this salt .
This salt is close to natural seawater parameters, I recomend it for Zoevit users when The KZ Reefers Best salt is not available. It mixes fast and is ready to use in less than a hour, my batch size is 20gallons. It is recommended that you us it within 4 hours of mixing to avoid any perspiration in the mix, I have had it mix longer(1 week) and did not notice any. If you are not running a Ultra low nutraint system the regular Coral Pro is also a great salt mix with much higher numbers for ALk, Cal, Mg.
This mix is intended to mimic NSW, so no elevated levels of any major elements. Dissolves quickly with no residue and no need to mix overnight like cheaper synthetic salts. The lack of extra-high elements might lead to expectations of a cheaper price, but I guess if one is running ULNS, one is already used to paying premium prices for just about everything!
This stuff was super easy. Started my new 120gal with it, and had stuff growing almost immediately.
Mixes well, fish are likeing it. glad I can always count on bulk reef supply to have great products at reasonable prices!
I had an instant turn around in my tank whith this salt mix. Corals are growing well and colors are really showing now. No way will I switch to another brand now.
Works great for those using carbon dosing and zeovit systems. No crazy high numbers to screw up my aquariums balance. Mixes super quick, follow directions and it mixes without residue.
