The Aqua Illumination Hydra Edge 44 HD is an advanced LED lighting system engineered to provide brilliant, full-spectrum illumination for saltwater reef aquariums. This compact and powerful fixture is designed to promote vibrant coral growth and enhance the natural coloration of your aquatic inhabitants. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, it delivers a consistent and evenly distributed light field, ensuring every corner of your reef receives the energy it needs to thrive, all controlled wirelessly through the intuitive myAI app on any iOS or Android device.
This fixture features 44 high-efficiency LEDs across 7 controllable color channels, including UV, violet, blue, and deep red, allowing for precise spectral customization. The signature Hyper Drive (HD) technology dynamically adjusts power between color channels, enabling you to boost specific spectrums beyond 100% output by reallocating unused power from other channels. This ensures maximum efficiency and performance tailored to your corals' specific needs. Its sleek, low-profile design and dedicated moonlight channel further enhance both the visual appeal and biological function of your aquarium.
The Hydra Edge 44 HD is an excellent choice for aquarists with small to medium-sized reef tanks who demand precise control and powerful output from a compact unit. It is perfect for hobbyists focused on growing demanding SPS and LPS corals, as the granular control over the spectrum allows for fine-tuning to achieve optimal health and coloration. Whether you are a seasoned reefer looking for a sophisticated upgrade or a new hobbyist wanting a light that will support a growing reef, the Hydra Edge provides the performance and flexibility needed for a successful aquarium.

I upgraded from my 2 16hd reef primes to this new hydra edge, I was just curious to see how it goes... compared to the primes this one has different blues, the primes have more intense and deeper blues, these blues are softer... the solar ring would be the most innovative because I barely run my whites at 5%, so I'm not really impressed, the design is great though, but far from the hydra 32 this is more like the exotech radion g5 wider lenses and more coverage, I still prefer my primes, but I have noticed in a couple of weeks that my corals love this light... I feel like they are a little more happier now, but nothing like the blue of my primes or the hydra 32hd, neither is the shimmer even similar... this light is like having a radion g5-6, in my very personal opinion and with 15 years in the hobby... I think it's very good, but I wouldn't change it for my primes or the Hydra 32, I don't see much benefit in the change and if I lose that blue tone and the beautiful shimmer of its previous version... But , yes im happy to bought this awsome hydra edge 44..
I’ve had these lights up for a few weeks (3 edge 44’s over a 32x24x24 mixed reef) and I have been impressed with the solar ring and the general color of the light. I’ve had (and still run a few) every ecotech light since the gen 3 came out and I still think that’s the standard to which all lights should be compared, but I’ve been really impressed with the strides AI is making for more affordable, easy to program products the last few years. These lights compare really well to the Blades and set up felt similar. Not as much customization as the Radion, but I think that’s the point with these. More of a set and go type of light that pairs well with the packaged tank options available these days. Like any reefing product, they won’t be for everyone. Decide what type of reefer you are and choose your gear accordingly. If you want a high quality, easy to set, not a lot of tinkering required type of light that will grow coral and give you a good point source shimmer, these are a light you should fully consider.
Got this light free as a beta tester, really slick and clean build. Nice colors, really made my corals pop. Nice shimmer! Fan is also silent, perfect light for the living room display tank!
I've been enjoying using these lights for the last few weeks. They have a clean look, but do take up a bit more space over the tank than Radio XR15's. Great new mounting options as compared to other lights. Spread/coverage is impressive, color spectrum is different as compared to my usual lights, Radion XR15 G6 blues - leaning more toward the white side which is a nice change. So far no issues with my coral after making the switch. Note that I received these lights free for testing and review purposes.
I bought 2 of these light for my frag tank. They have a clean refined look and have an ultra quiet fan. In Mobius they easily paired, initial setup was done using one of the supplied templates which I made a few modifications to. I haven’t experienced and connection issues with the lights although WIFI capability would be a nice addition. The light provided by the Hydra Edge is a nice mixture of whites and blues and had no problems pushing 300 par down to the bottom of the frag tank. Coverage was in line with my Radions XR15 G6’s. I personally like the shimmer that these lights provide, it’s something that I don’t get with my Radions and am now considering adding additional lights to my display tank to provide similar shimmer. All on all, I like these lights and am pleased with the purchase. Keeping my fingers crossed that Mobius remains a stable platform for controlling these lights.
Been running the hydra edge for a few weeks now and so far I am impressed. The spectrum is nice, provides a natural shimmer and very bright.
Sad to see so many paid reviews going up these days. I bought this light and returned it. It does not blend at all and you get a giant disco ball effect in the tank. If you don't notice disco or it doesn't bother you, this light is a good choice. The mounting is great though. The fan is super quiet and easy to access for cleaning. MyAI is a great app IME as well. Beware of paid reviews as they are never the full story
Great light! Easy to setup, great control! Spectrum looks amazing on my corals!
I was sent this light free for testing and so far I’m loving the new redesign. Corals are responding well, fan is dead silent and light is very sleek and compact.
I recieved these units for free. Upon unboxing them the design seems very modern, I love the sleekness and how well they fit in my t5 hybrid fixture. I have 3 fitted to a 48" fixture. These replaced 3 Hydra 52HDs, corals seem to be responding well to them, it will take longer to see how well they do but so far no complaints!
So far liking the design. Much more sleek then the Hydra 26/32 fixture. The light spectrum is different but looks really good. Received free product
