I ordered the 21" light and the elevated mount for my 20 Long. Coverage looks great. Build quality seems verry solid. I am happy with my purchase!
2 Star. I Have a 66% Failure Rate because I run Multiples. Failure due to Poor Build Quality Poor Customer Service FROM AI Almost 5 Months for them to RMA it at AI. DUE TO PART SHORTAGES in 2025. ITS NO LONGER COVID.
I'd highly recommend these lights
I have this and a glow along with my G6. I wanted something to help reduce shading and this works great for that. The main driver was that it would mount directly to the Radion slides for a clean install. The standard surface mounts also look useable. Bonus that no fan means zero extra noise. I run mine at 100% for most of the day and it only get's warm, not hot which is always a worry for passive cooling.
Everything is exceptional except at first I could not connect to the app. Now that I figured it out I give it 5 stars.
Great lights but, they do burn out very. Easy.
This light is exactly as advertised. Slim design packs a punch and easy to use. The led fits the Fluval Evo 13.5 OE hood perfectly. I setup the light through the Mobius app, used the preset supplied and now I'm happy reefing.
I added two Blade Grows to my two radion xr30s to help with shading and to give the tank a blanket of light. They have been awesome. Love the look and the improved growth and health of corals has been clear.
I am very happy with this light. It is strong enough as a stand alone light for SPS corals, and also LPS and softies in my mixed reef. It was an adjustment when I first got it and the PAR was too strong, but after adjustments my corals are doing great. Initially I only had one over a 60”x24” tank and it was doing the trick, I have since added another grow and a glow.
if you are looking for a light that will fit your fluval evo, this will be the light that you are looking for. controls are easy and simple to do. I only give it a 4 star rating because one died on me after 6 months of use but AI replaced it. Then new unit works now but after few months, some exposed metals started to form rust. I think ai should consider updating it since the most common application of this will be near the water and for sure it will be exposed to saltwater right away.
Light can be very blue, but the growth of my corals has been amazing. I love it.
I first purchased the refuge and was so impressed that I purchased a grow. Now all 4 of the lights I have are perfect in every way. Yes very even spread. mine are 12". Plenty bright enough to get high par readings. The light spread is amazing. Great growth. Easy to relocate or use as supplemental Light for spread. I found one of mine in the water and unplugged it, let it dry for 2 days and it is still working perfectly. Not waterproof but almost. Buy one and you will love it. I do.
I really wanted to love this light. Replaced a Kessil and it seemed great until it got a splash of water from a fish. Sizzle and done. I’ve had Kessils and Fluvals last five years plus. This thing didn’t even make it two weeks. Avoid. Very disappointing.
Do not order this light. The first one I received made half of my tank blue and the other half white. I let brs know and they sent me another light with the exact same issue. I have seen accounts of them doing this to multiple other people. The company does not care that they are shipping out a faulty product, and they continued to sell them. Don’t waste your time. This whole exchange has made me lose a lot of faith in BRS as a company.
Buyer beware. Please pay close attention to the 11/15/2023 review by Aaron. These light are not balanced in terms of spread. I bought 4 on the Black Friday sale to go over my custom 10 foot and all 4 are doing the exact same thing. The cable side which I have facing the each of corners all produce a distinctly noticeable whiter lights that’s fades to a bluer tint as you move down the light. The whole center part of my tank is blue and each of the corners are blue/white. Wish I could upload a photo. Ashame given what these cost as the design is so clean. Time to fight AI I guess Perhaps these are all from the same defective batch
bought a 30" Grow. One side of my tank was blue and the other half white. This is a known issue for months now yet these are still being shipped out. Contacted Ai and was sent another one with off balance color after being told they were manufacturing new ones and it would ship out after. Third light I received was corrected. After all the running around shipping, emails, wait time, I thought Ai would throw in something, discount code, sticker, shirt, coupon? Nothing.
The 12 inch grow works perfectly fine on the tank on my desk, app is easy to use and customize the schedule. I plan on adding a 12 inch glow to add the UV and POP.... but yea I think if you want a good light to start that is easy to use and customizable that isn't $500 go for it you can always add to it later.
I want to really love these lights , there where almost everything I was looking for in a light. BUT i dont. so i'll give them a 1 star so you know what you are getting into. here the scoop. on all GROWS of any length the cored side will be brighter its pretty bad. AI is fully aware of this issue I have talked to a few ppl on R2R that have gone through 6+ lights same issue. as far as I know AI has no plans on fixing/changing this issue in the near feature. so if you are getting these to rest on the tank to keep light spill down be prepared to live with one side brighter than the other. I hear the higher you mount it it's less noticeable. also if you mix in a glow or use for fill light but if you plan on these to be your one and only light you gotta just live it an uneven tank I guess. i'll post a link to R2R where ppl are talking about the light. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/aquaillumination-blade-announced.957896/
Matthew recommended the Coral Grow for my small BioCube 14 reef tank. If you have the old Florescent fixture this fits in the hood perfect. It only comes with plastic side mounts but I have a 3D printer and will print bracket mounts to fit it to the top inside of the hood. This light fixture is almost made for this tank in size and watts. Cannot be happier after searching on the internet for months I could not find this light but one email to BRS and I had my recommendation for this like. Thank You Matt. Great choice. You nailed it. Richard
I bought a 12 in blade Grow and Glow I had them on my tank for 1 day and man what a difference. I really think my corals were starving to death for light. They open up bigger than I have ever seen them. So I was making an adjustment to one and accidentally dipped the power cord end in the tank and it immediately shorted out. I about cried. I called AI customer service and they said it would be covered and to send it back. I sent it back on Friday and was waiting to hear that water damage isn’t covered. But to my complete surprise they got the blade on Monday and messaged me saying that they are going to cover the cost of replacement!!
Bought a 48" for my 60 breeder back in Feb '23 and honestly I love it. My tank is not fully stocked by any means but I have a verrryyy happy torch and birdsnest amongst other corals that are loving life under this light. Next purchase will have to be a glow to go along with my grow, then I think I'll be hitting some sps dominant par numbers (not that I'm going that route but just for reference). Make sure to update your light! Mine was acting weird, I disconnected it from the app, reconnected, then updated and I haven't had any issues since. Run mine close to "20k" and really digging the pinks and blues in my corals, and honestly couldn't ask for a nicer light. 10/10 AI, you guys killed it.
I bought two 30” Blade Grow and one 30” Blade Glow for my primary lighting on my 36” 75 gallon tank. I’m using the elevated mounts. These lights are terrific. Amazing spread, PAR and spectrum with very little shadowing. The AI app is super easy to use. Just know that the app only works locally on Bluetooth and the lights do not connect to Wi-Fi. I actually think this is a plus. Very happy with these lights.
Only owned for less then a month, using as a standalone lighting solution 12in version with the extended legs version to be more specific, Using this on a 15x15x15" Aqueon Frameless Cube. Using 70% Royal Blue, 70% Blue, 40% White, I am getting roughly 50 par across the bottom of this tank. Very Ideal as I am only keeping Acans in this tank. Great for a Softy/LPS as there is some room to increase this quite a bit. SPS I would say you would need two of these or drop the extended legs to pull 200+ par range for a very similar sized tank in the more upper regions of this tank.
I bought my original blade Feb 2023. By the end of March 2023 it quit working. AI sent me a replacement. It took 4 weeks to finally show up. First week of May 2023 I realized it was doing funky stuff with only half the leds turning on. So I contacted AI again. I assume they will be sending me another light. In the mean time the blade stopped working all together and now strobes with white only lights. They worked well for my corral quarantine tank up to the point that they stopped working completely. Hopefully they can figure out what the issue is they are having with these. The concept is a good one.
I picked up the 66 inch version. The light itself is amazing. However, what keeps me from a 5 star is that the fixture sags noticeably. At this price point that’s not acceptable.
I was looking for an upgrade to the stock light on my Fluval Evo 13.5 and this was what I landed on after some research. I was able to keep the stock hood to keep evaporation down and thwart any attempts by escape artist fish. The presets (or signatures) on the AI website load perfectly and give great starting points for lighting schedules in the app. Setup and use of my light was a breeze and I recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade their stock Fluval Evo 13.5 tank lighting.
If a LED strip light fits your application. This is the way to go. I do recommend this product.
I have a fluval 13.5 , the light fits perfectly on the stock tank lid. Which helps keep the evaporation low. I went with the blade grow instead of the glow .The light itself is pretty bright and strong. It can be adjusted by your AI app. Overall , I really like these lights ,uses low wattage with great performance. Corals look awesome and you can’t beat that price. Very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend.
I've got an IM 20g Peninsula Pro. Stock: frogspawn, stylophora, duncans, zoas, green nepthea, torch, hammers, giant bali xenia, GSP, blastos. I've got 2 grows and 1 glow, I've seen better coral growth since switching from an AI Prime. I've also noticed that the corals all grow straight upwards instead of all angling towards a single puck light. My only complaint is that color rendition on non-fluorescent yellows is pretty poor. My yellow clown goby and yellow mollies appear a washed out brown color, even on a whiter spectrum. I'm not sure which LEDs are responsible for color rendition of yellow, but I would suggest adding that to the next AI Blade model.
Overall, these lights are great. They can easily be used as standalone or as supplemental lighting. I did notice one major design flaw and have noticed it with other’s using these lights. One end outputs more blue while the opposite end has a more pink/purple coloration. After closely examining, it appears to be the result of the LED clusters having the “cool white” diodes in the same position across the board. This results in the whiter color being broadcasted toward one end (power cord end) more than the opposite end. This could have easily been remedied by alternating the white diode position in the clusters for a more even blending of color.
Only had them a short while, put two of them on as supplement lighting next to my kessil 360 to help with shadows. It worked really good had to adjust all of my lights to match the original Par, i was able to keep my par the same and increase the edges and corners which gives me more growing area. They hooked up with möbius immediately had to watch 6000 YouTube videos to understand how to program them but after that is easy enough they run perfectly parallel to the 360 have a override button that can be used to illuminate your tank for a minute if you need to fix an animal before the lights are programmed to turn on. The app has a cool dashboard when you open app that tells you status of the lights in real time. I do at this time recommend ai blades,if something goes wrong I will let you know!
The Good: First Impression is this is a great light. I'm getting spectacular spread, very little shadows, and PAR ratings are phenomenal. It's lightweight, easy to set up and use, and really gives a good aesthetic to the tank. The Bad: The app is a little delayed, sometimes. 90% of the time it responds immediately, but at times it's like it gets stuck and you have to refresh the app to make it do what you want. This a brand new product line, so to be expected all the accessories are not yet available. I personally want the raised tank mounts, but as of yet they are "Coming Soon" The Ugly: My particular model had a manufacturing defect. One of the gasket seals on the end of the light was missing, causing salt and moisture to infiltrate the light and blow a lens. What makes it even more frustrating is that this happened on the first full day of lighting corals. It operated for about a week and a half at 10 minute intervals, 3 times daily for fish feeding, and once for 30 minutes during maintenance/observation. Introduced coral to the tank, set schedule, and it made it 4 hours. I'll be returning it to AI and getting a repair. May update this review after!
I love the hardware.. it is built with good quality materials and the spectrum and par are the best you could ask.. The issue is with Mobius. I am not able to add this to 'my AI' app and only use Mobius to control it. Now, I keep getting errors and not able to connect to Mobius using my android and not able to use any scenes. It is frustrating to use the app and Echotech should seriously fix the app/software.
This is a great looking like, feels sturdy and well made. I put 2, a 12” grow and a 12” glow on my nano and the lighting is awesome. The app could use some work but, it is easy enough to get things going. First impressions are great, really like these lights so far! Can’t wait to see how the livestock like them!
I think this is a breath of fresh air from AI. I get the allure of the Prime 16HD and all that, but this light is a beast. No bells and whistles, just good old fashioned LED. High power without having to pay a car payment on it. I bought the 30inch model and it covers my 45 gallon tank with the holders that it comes with. There is no wifi from what I've seen so it's bluetooth only and connects through the Mobius app. I haven't had any trouble with it, but some folks don't have a great time with that app. Highly recommend this light though. I'm very pleased with my purchase!
