I bought a 12” open box for a 20 gallon clown / anemone tank and it is doing a great job. The color is amazing. I was getting over 450 par at the waterline running it at 60% with sitting on the tank rests. It fell into the tank twice so I have it on an HMS mount which makes it much easier to do maintenance.
This is supplemental for me but if you really want that fluorescent pop this is the best I've seen. It has more "UV" color than my Radion G6 Blue.
Like many people I received a lopsided LED spread on my original 30” Grow. It was a manufacturing error and they replaced the light. I’ve had it about a year now as the only light on a little 20 gallon long with FABULOUS results, everything loves it. Now this is the healthiest tank in my house, puts the main tank (Nicrews) to shame. It’s not about PAR, folks, it’s about spectrum and quality. Never going back to generic lights.
I have those in my 2 reef aquariums , blade super cool and silent 100%
I expected a little more from AI on this. I understand it's only 20 watts for the 12-in model but hope for more with their lenses. It's so dim that I think it should only function as a moonlight. It literally has to sit on top of the aquarium to get any light penetration. I wouldn't even think about hanging it. Unfortunately I had high hopes but it didn't come with this model. They need to really up the wattage for version 2. This is not an effective replacement for Actinic supplements
Not worth the money. I love their grow light, but the cost and overall look of the glow is not worth the outrageous price tag.
As an update to my earlier review, these lights have been absolutely fantastic. Once the initial early batch issues were resolved, the others I ordered have been great! They have been my primary light for 3 months now over my 250g peninsula. Corals are absoutely loving them! I have one more to buy and will end up with 3 Grow and 2 Glow. 5 are NOT needed over my tank as I have confirmed with PAR readings that 3 of them provide plenty of light for a mixed tank. It comes out to 1 Blade for every 12" of tank width when I use 3. I am using 5 so I can switch to an SPS dominant system in the near future. If I could give AI any feedback, it would be more violet LEDs and less Royal Blue on the Glow.
When I got the lights I was Impressed with the slick design, however the mounts that the light comes with are terrible. The mounts place the light so close to the water you lose good light spread. I ended up 3d printing some awesome mounts that made the light much better. There is a massive flaw in the gasket that keeps the light water resistant. when I slid off the provided mounts the gaskets came off as well ripping them in half. I need to contact AI for new gaskets to keep my warranty. I love the controllability of the app and was very easy to sync, the color is great however I am not impressed with the par of these lights. I would never make these a primary light source and only as supplemental lighting. Overall they work well as supplemental lighting in my tank with great colors, but will not be purchasing anymore of these lights in the future
12inch model doesn’t come with the clips to attach HMS Mount. Had to call Aqua Illumination customer service to get the clips.
This light has the chance to be absolutely amazing and perfect for so many. However, if you have are already bought one or are about to buy one, do yourself a giant favor and inspect the fixture for serious fit and finish issues. The most common being where the wire enters the light. You will likely find exposed black and red wires as the black insulation has pulled out and away from the light. Multiple issues can arise from this down the road but first and foremost it shows a lack of QC and design issues. Second and more obvious thing is the O rings at each end plate. Good chance it came loose, was over tightened, or even ripped completely. This O ring is critical for the IP66 rating. You must use a small Torx bit, back out 2 screws, and seat the O ring back in place properly. Make sure to not overtighten and squish the O ring back out. I’ve already been through 2 lights with serious QC issues and don’t have high hopes for the third fixture that is on its way. AI customer service has been mediocre at handling the issues thus far.
I have 1 39 inch over a 4ft 80g reef tank along with 2 XR15 Pro's. What makes this bar stand out from the rest is the complete blending of led channels and output. Coverage and spread is also amazing. I can almost turn the blue and royal blue channels to zero on the radions and this will take care of it without a sweat. I have it set to 50% and mounted about 8 inches above the water. The light is fully controllable through Mobius and MyAI with all the benefits of sunrise/set ramping and spectral adjustments. I have no doubt I could remove the radions and add 1 more glow and 1 grow and will be able to grow acro. Well done AI.
