The Kessil A160WE Series Controllable Tuna Blue LED Aquarium Light is a powerful and energy-efficient lighting solution designed for reef aquariums. This light fixture provides an effective light equivalent to a 175-watt metal halide but uses only 40 watts of power, making it more efficient while delivering up to 15% brighter illumination compared to the previous A150 models. It features two control knobs that allow users to adjust both overall intensity and the blue/white LED spectrum mix, enabling precise tuning of color temperature within a wide range.

Been using the Kessil lights for a couple of years now. Always had great results and paired with their controller you can’t go wrong!
Just got the A160 and a controller X for it and I'm extremely extremely disappointed to see that the light can't run a lunar cycle. I was hoping with the controller I could just run 1 a160 for daytime and moonlight night time, but nope. Can't get the light to run a moonlight cycle at all. For the hundreds I spent on the combo im super disappointed and ready to throw it in the trash.
This light is 100% bulletproof and will last YEARS. It covers a cube 50 gallons or less. My LFS uses them in an array over their 150 gallon displays and they put out enough light to grow SPS. 10/10 would recommend. Solid construction and durable components.
I bought these lights over 7 years ago and they have been prefect. Never have had an issue. Will never buy anything buy Kessil
40 breeder or 75 gal with 2 160's and T5 single strip on each side for a simple cheap full coral calibrated spectrum. perfect muted shimmer and complete coverage... combo that can take you from softies to the full Monti... sps. The fuge flora version is also great and worked 24/7 for me 4 years straight.
We've had this light since we picked our tank up from someone in the Denver area on Craigslist 5+ years ago. They had the tank for about 9 months before they sold it to us. This thing has been outstanding. I want the controller but wish it had a smart controller that I could manage from my phone like my inkbird heater controller. I'd like to know if the light doesn't come on when it's supposed to.
The mounting bracket fits well on a rimless tank however I have a tank with a plastic rim and the mounting bracket does not fit. I spoke to someone from Kessill and they really didn't understand what I was talking about. I was frustrated and surprised that they were not at all understanding the issue. The black plastic rim extends into the tank where as the rimless does not. Therefore when the bracket on the arm is installed there is a gap that doesn't secure the arm.
After a little over 3 years of minimal use it went out & so did warranty. Don't invest or waste money on this product.
Light worked great for 2 years and about 6 months.. I saw other complains about them not making over 2 years and bought them anyway.. now mine went out..
For the price I expected a lot more than just a light with two adjustment knobs, bought the overpriced controller and gooseneck mount to try and get more out of it but after almost a year I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be for the price I paid, poor instructions, took me several months and online research to find the right intensity for my 30g nano, controller was a headache getting it dialed in, the colors of my corals are nice but I've seen nicer in this price range of led lights, I have not had any malfunctions or problems with the unit, final adjustment setting I'm using is 100 percent full intensity 10 hrs with 3hrs full color and 7hrs blue is what seems my corals liked, nano tank is about 18 inches deep
The top of the unit is now thin plastic and cracks in half very easily. I bumped it (attatched to a gooseneck) while organizing my frags and the top cracked in half. It is now hanging by just the electric wire. The light still runs awesome and if you hang it from a chain i would say go for it. Theyre awesome lights. Awesome. But i am very dissappointed in the quality. The screws are an improvement over the ones on the old 150 that used to easily strip but should still be upgraded. If you dont know how to match threads good luck. Dont buy if you plan on using the gooseneck but if you hang them then they are by far still one of the best lights i have ever seen and used. Clean them out with compressed co2 or compressed air like for keyboards once every 6 months.i have 2 on a 75 and as long as i moniter my calcium and alk daily and mag every few days they grow every coral great. Other than the cheap plastic top and tiny screws dissappointment, i will still continue to buy the kessils. They are that good. Happy and noticably growing corals (over years) under these include... Zoas, anemones, elegence corals, sps, blastos, war corals, acans and quite a few others. If you honestly moniter your c kh and mg daily birdsnest grows like a weed. I dont even check nitrates or phos because its an anthias tank. 75 main 75 sump 30 refug woth chaeto and calupera. Big skimmer large carbon/gfo reactor. I change carbon/gfo every 10 days and do a 16 to 20 gal water change with red sea every weekend. If you put the work in the lights work for you.
i have had this light for a little over a year I've had nothing but great results
I just purchased these and it's a night and day difference from the t5s. beautiful clarity and my anemones and corals pop. I can't believe what a difference the right lighting makes. I would recommend the investment without a doubt.
I have a 22G Long (12" tall) tank with two of these hovering about 7" of the water and I got to say I absolutely love these, as much as my corals do. I have SPS 2-3" below the surface and a variety of LPS corals below that. EVERY single coral is simply flourishing under these lights. I did get the controller as well as it is a must, really wish they included the controller and had a slave/master configuration without making us spend another $100 on top of the already hefty price. All in all I really recommend it for small shallow setups.
Have two 160tb over my 50 gallon 3’ long tank. I have SPS from one side to the other. I have been getting good growth. I just added the let retrofit t5 kit to deal with the shadows from spot light lighting.
I love my Kessil lights, I upgraded from Kessil 150W to the 160WE! Love the range of colors! And, of course BRS got my lights shipped out shortly after I purchased them!
I bought 4 of these lights for y 180 gallon reef earlier this year. I love how simple they are. They are easily controlled and the blue is a great color. I love how good they look too
I have had this lamp over my 25 gallon Innovative Marine Fusion Lagoon for over a year and am still totally satisfied with the results. Pinks, oranges, reds, and greens really pop under this light and the blue setting has visibly improved coral growth overall. I currently host 2 maxima clams, a rose bubble tip anemone, several torches, frogspawn, acan, zoas, and hammers. All are thriving! Kessil has always made reliable LEDs. I would definitely buy again.
Bought this to hang over my 15 gallon nano. Setup was very easy. My anemones are loving the new light.
My corals have done amazing under this light. The quality, color, and power is amazing. This light on goose neck is great over my nuvo 10. Spectra controller works fine. Would buy again
This has been one of the greatest investments I made for my aquarium. My corals looks brighter and healthier than they ever have. I hardly had to acclimate my coral to these lights and they were very easy to set up, I purchased the Kessil controller to run these and it was a easy setup as well with very little instruction. I would definitely buy these again.
After using this product for 6 months I have received nothing but great results. Growth and polyp extension has increased dramatically making all my lps corals really happy. The shimmer is just beautiful and the color spectrum combines the fast growing power of 10000 kelvin bulb with the aesthetics of a 14000 or 20000k bulb, I am looking forward to add the spectral controller to this light to increase control-ability. Over all, this is the most impressive light fixture I ever owned.
The light worked very well... for four days. Then the manual controls ceased all function. E-mailed BRS to enlist their help getting the unit replaced. Never received a reply or any aid. Currently working with the manufacturer. Will update review if the replacement works. Customer service from BRS was lacking. Not the best first time purchase experience.
I bought this light for my fuge. Hooked up to Apex, it allows for nice range of intensity and spectrum.
I was worried at first because I called up kessil HQ and they recommended a360we for my 30 gallon (24 x 24 x 12) shallow tank. When the a160we arrived I was very impressed. More than enough par for my corals I will probably max it at 80%. Great spread for about 20 x 20. The sides of the tank were still illuminated but not as strong. Good for corals that require low light. I'm very satisfied with my purchase the blue spectrum is amazing.
I installed 2 of these on my 65 gallon reef tank and they are great. I had to turn the intensity down on them because they were so bright. Corals are doing great with them compared to the other LED light I had before.
I purchased 2 of the tuna blue along with the spectral controller. I love the light they give off it is very much like natural light. There is no random red or green spots in the tank like my old lights. I have them over my 125. Two work for now because I only have coral in two location on rock islands. Each light hangs directly over one of the islands. My original plan was to supplement these with my old LEDs but frankly they look horrible compared to the kessils. As a result I will be purchasing another two in the near future.
This light gives you all control. With the tuning knobs and the kessil controller you can completely control your led lights with simplicity.
ordered this through the site from my lfs the shimmer effect is the best ive seen brs tvs youtube channels review is what really made me want to see them for myself could not be any happier next day shipping was deff worth and was super fast
I have this light over a 12 gallon nano and it is more than enough to keep my corals happy.
Love this light. Just put over a 5 year old JBJ 28 nano which I took the original top off of and replaced with a DIY screen top (screen courtesy of BRS). The knobs for intensity and color work well and give a wide range of options. I’ve opted to control my light with Kessil’s spectral controller and it works perfectly for what I need…..lights on low and in blue in the early A.M., ramping up to full spectrum by noon and back to blue at bedtime. Fish love it, corals love and I love it!
I have 2 of the Tuna Blue 160s over a 56 gallon column. Combined with the controller, it produces an amazing shimmer and my corals respond well. It does grow SPS in the upper portion of the tank. Downside is the price of the accessories. Goosenecks, data cables, 90 degree adapters add up. Be sure to include these in the cost to weigh you options!
This light is over my new sump refugium. I can't believe how much par this compact little light gives off. The colors it enhances are amazing! It lights up my dragon's breath flame algae and really makes its color pop! I would easily put one of these in a display tank.
Overall, I am VERY impressed with these lights. The shimmer and color is just amazing! Only thing I would suggest to Kessil is that they need to come up with a cleaner cable management solution.
Put the 160WE Tuna Sun over my sump refugium. Love the spectrum control and my fuge shimmers and is growing chaeto like crazy. Tiny little light and really puts out some PAR.
So because you didn't properly acclimate your Coral you gave this Light a Bad Review? This light is awesome do not believe what the other guy said.
These lights are everything I hoped for. They adjust from 20k to 10k Kelvin, which is exactly what i wanted so i could choose the color I wanted. I have two of them over a 90G FOWLR tank so in my case the intensity is pretty good but for a reef in this tank size I would go with the larger units or put at least 4 of these over the tank. I have no idea what the PAR is so even 4 may not be enough intensity over a taller tank. I also bought the controller, which is what I would consider a must-have with these lights now that I have one. True, you can operate the lights without it but for the price (~$100) why wouldn't you get a cool looking gadget to do that for you? :) These units produce MORE than enough light for a nano tank so I don't believe they were the cause of the frag demise in the other review.
So I put this on my new 7 gallon nano to see how it worked. I have had it on there from the day it came out. I put a small drag of green slimmer from my larger tank and it completely browned out with lights at full intencity. And yes I did slowly ramp the lights up every week.
